Diverts
Totally out of order blaming Servisair at BOH for rejecting diverts.
In know for a fact that they actively encourage them. As I understand the procedure is that Servisair are called by the airline with a divert request, Servisair then have to pass the info to the Bournemouth Airport Authorities, who scrutinise it with a fine toothcomb and more often that not reject it due to lack of space??!!.
It appears that the space issue usually involves small aircraft and cargo aircraft being allowed to occupy stands that should be allocated to passenger aircraft.
I am aware that there also seems to be some bizarre policy of keeping stands free 'just in case'. IN CASE OF WHAT???? Who knows!!!
This new expansion scheme needs to be driven forward by a pro-active and forward thinking management team at Bournemouth Airport, not he 'old boys network' thats in place at present.

I hear that (although they are denieing rumours of a move) some 'higher-up' people from ATC-Lasham were looking at the ex-BASCO Hangar a couple of weeks ago; anyone heared more?

tribekey thank you for your explanation of what may be the official reasons for the refusals and the following comments are not directed at you but the Airport itself and it’s Handling agents.
Although there may be compelling reasons to limit, may be even severely limit, the number of diversions, to have what appears to be a blanket ban seems very much like a won’t do rather than a can do attitude is prevailing at the Airport.
Times have changed and I fully accept that you can’t have anyone just running and driving around the airfield, as was the case back in the big diversion days. Also contrary to what QWERY9 says a lot of the diverted passengers in the past didn’t just get on coaches from the arrivals hall, but were directed to the main building where all the facilities are. Now these facilities are airside there is just not the room to handle these number of people in what is primarily just a check in area.
Conserving Jet Fuel stocks for main operators may also have been reason for refusal, but even after taking all the above and what tibekey has pointed out into consideration I find it unbelievable that Bournemouth couldn’t find room to accept at least one Passenger diversion during the period. Correct me if I’m wrong but the Leeds flight was a J41, and not to be able to accept an aircraft that size, no matter how busy you are seems most strange.

On another occasion a Citation which wanted to Divert spoke to the tower and was refused due to no handling. The pilot told tower that they where going to CSE Ciatation centre where they could handle themselves (ie shut down and leave) but was still refused.
WHAT...
Also re Basco Hangar rumour of ATC Lasham was heard about a month ago.
What a great facility it would be for them instead of having to land at a Gliding field with all there restrictions.
What will happen with the VP 747 now BASCO have gone.

yankee, thanks for the reply, i should have added that there wasn't a blanket ban, some diversions were accepted, i saw at 3 or 4 on one day(think it was the thursday)and several exec types on the friday, limited amounts .

I regularly visit my daughter in Bournemouth and have flown into and out of Southampton about a dozen times in the past year to various destinations but it would be far easier for me to go to and from Bournemouth, but I am sorry to say that Southampton strikes me as a highly professional operation with Bournemouth down in the minor leagues. They are going to have to put some money and serious effort in if they are are going to compete but I don't see it happening - its a real shame.

Electra going to Bournemouth
The Lockheed Electra returns to Hurn Monday to Fridays.
We understand that the Mail and paper contract is being renewed and it will change from Aurigny and Air Contractors operating down to the Islands to Atlantc Airlines with the Electra and an ATP.
We do not know how this fits in to other contracts out of Hurn, the Electra leaves Hurn to make good an arrival time into Jersey of 0530 local time and the ATP to make good an arrival in Guernsey of 0600.
Does any one know when the contracts are due to change and what other contracts are effected out of Hurn?

I have just heard on local radio on my way home of an incident at BOH tonight at about half 5. All I know is that there was an emergency landing and that the surrounding roads were closed with a large emergency service turnout.

Anyone know when Thomsonfly are going to release their schedules for booking on their website from BOH for winter 2007/08?

Winter 07/08 will not be bookable until the early summer. I think last year they went on sale some time in June. Most low cost airlines follow this format. Ryanair have only just loaded this summer over the last few weeks for instance.

I gave up looking on Bournemouth's web site for news ages ago, have a direct link to flight departures/arrivals and thats it as far as that site is concerned which is a real shame and shows what a missed opertunity that web site has become both for locals and other more distant PAX.
For up to date BOH news, I find there is no better place than lurking on these forums or chatting to the Thompson and Ryanair staff while I'm riding in their fine equipemt....

Bournemouth Airport has reported that 2006 was its busiest year on record with 955,160 passengers passing through its doors, showing a 15.6% jump compared to 2005 (826,424).
During the month of December 2006 there was a year-on-year increase of 33% in scheduled flights – mainly due to the introduction of Ryanair’s three additional routes this winter to Madrid, Pisa and Shannon. These fantastic results were achieved despite increased security measures introduced in August and a spell of bad weather (fog) before Christmas which affected many airports across the country. Bournemouth Airport suffered minimal delays and just a couple of cancellations over the four day period.
The airport’s top three destinations during December were Dublin (8066 passengers), closely followed by Girona (7909) and Glasgow-Prestwick (7812). The Spanish resorts of Malaga and Alicante featured in 4th and 5th place with 5980 and 5326 passengers respectively.
The Airport is now looking forward to another busy year in 2007. Three new operators will be added to the airport’s summer flight schedule:
Wizz Air flying to Katowice in Poland three times a week
Olympic Holidays offering a weekly flight to Crete
Goldtrail Holidays offering a weekly flight to Dalaman in Turkey
In addition, Thomsonfly will be re-introducing its popular service to Valencia (3 per week) and will continue its Prague route throughout the summer (4 per week). Work is also expected to start on the Airport’s ambitious £32million redevelopment programme, subject to obtaining the necessary planning approvals.
Peter Duffy, Managing Director of Bournemouth Airport said: “We are delighted with the passenger figures for 2006 and believe they reflect the level of commitment that the Airport has to providing excellent choice and value for the region’s leisure and business travellers.
