New bus service to/from BOH airport
Very professional looking new service starting from the 7th November from Bournemouth town center to BOH airport.

Running 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm (no real help to those on the two TFly flights going out at 7am or coming back at 23:30 though), it finally provides a direct link from the railway station to the airport. Another nice touch is the list of Bournemouth hotels and the nearest bus stop. Price looks very competitive as well.

One comment I would make is that if the airport wants to develop, the local road infrastructure must be improved, in particular direct access onto the A338.
It is all very well walking across the road after landing and being in your car in a matters of minutes, but depending upon the time of day, it can take ages exiting the airport, yet alone getting onto the A338.

What was the old twin that landed today at 16:20 local, looked like an Aero 45, but it wasn't?

Yes there are plans to link the airport directly to the A338, in the latest Master Plan on the Bournemouth website there is a route to the north of the runway that connects directly to the A338 by passing just to the south of the Matchams Ski Centre. However, the route is marked as "Safeguarded corridor for future A338 link" so I'm unsure of actual timescales.
There are also four areas marked as junction improvements, namely Parley Traffic lights, Chappel Gate roundabout, the main airport junction and the small Hurn roundabout at the end of the B3073
.
If your interested, pages 46-50 of the master plan cover transport issues.
Agree with you about getting out of the airport when it's busy though, total nightmare at times espically between 4 and 6pm when if you live locally, occasionally it's quicker to walk

BOU PAX, thanks for that. I am not a regular visitor to Hurn and the 'Master plan' makes sense. I can concur that after the 16:00 Ryanair arrival, the roads surrounding Hurn become choked for no good reason apart from good traffic management.
So what was the ' small old low wing twin' that arrived at 16:20 today? I was North on the A338 as it passed from right to left ahead of me on short final.

Well it looks just like an Aero 45, not bad identification for a bear! I see it uses Walter engines and it is aerobatic!

Its sad news about the Bournemouth Aviation museum told to vacate there hangars for extra CAR PARKING.
They have just built new tanks for esso and new buildings for shell nearby cant really see what extra space that will give.
A great shame as they could have been busy if thre where any delays gives some people somewhere to go whilst waiting.

I guess the field next to the existing car park cannot be used (Opp ATC College)? I would then simply be an extension to the one across the road from the terminal.

Eurostar builder - it might be a nice idea but I'd be amazed if more than 1% of pax were interested in the aviation museum as a time-filler if delayed - which would be borne out by the visitor numbers there.
It seems to me that this is just part of the long-overdue development of Hurn airfield into a proper airport...

Yeah, Once you checkin you have to go straight through security and stay airside. So no one would be able to visit anyway.
Is the museum closing down or will it be allowed to move to another area in the airport?
I noticed that New Market Holidays have added holidays to Provence for next year using Ryanair flights to Marseille. Do they know something we don't?

Ryanair have now released Marseille for booking from BOH, operating on sundays and wednesdays from 04/05/08 till 14/09/08.
Thomson Holidays are introducing Paphos, Madeira & Fueterventura as weekly flights for winter 2008/9. Currently Paphos is operated as a summer only route.
Great news is that Thomsons have just anounced their first ever long-haul flights from BOH. Two flights are planned for early 2009 to the Dominican Rupublic.

Thomson long haul
Thomson actually operated to Orlando and Dom Rep in 1996 and 1997 after the runway was lengthened - and loads were 100%. Never understood why they didn't continue it. Good news they are doing this again although why Do Rep is in the list instead of higher demand Barbados and Orlando I don't know - Bath Travel carry 2-3,000 people a year to Barbados already from BOH.

A bit far out the way for the casual visitor I'd have thought, and anyway if the rumors are true the Basco hangar is about to get a new coat of Orange paint...
I would have thought somewhere on the West side of the airport near the European offices would have been better for BAM if space could be found, certainly easier access for both types of visitors etc.
