BOURNEMOUTH - 2
Siggyboy the old rumour about KLM and BOH is just that, a rumour !
It comes up every other week or so and to be honest it is just a plane spotters fantasy and those that want to see a new arline at BOH instantly think of KLM being a possible contender!

Then again I could have been told a load of bull

Having just had the experience of going thru the main terminal today, am very disappointed to see a fort knox approach for dropping off pax, adding £5 to the cost of the flight. Are the management gone mad, this will no doubt lead to a to a lose of business bearing in mind bmth is now essentially a low cost carrier airport!!!!

Your right. I have to go past BOH everyday in my car to get to work. Although they have this really stupid ``Drop off`` idea. Many Pax are actually getting dropped off in the road on the left (if coming from Blackwater JNC on the 338). Also i have seen taxi`s picking up from there too. BOH has taken a very stupid attitude on this subject and it could cost them dearly.
What do people make of this article?
āNo futureā for smallest airports | ABTN
Maybe so, but who knows?
Judging by the above article

Regional Airports Uk
I'm not suprised as we are backward in this country, you look at Germany where they are a million light years of the UK (not just in aviation)and their regional airports are thriving and there are stacks of them all over the country,we are obsessed here with London Airports. Most countries in Europe have good regional Airports. We do not have a clue here.
Could be an element of plea bargaining in there, considering it comes from MAGs 'Director for External Affairs', and highlights the increasing cost burden on smaller airports.
Anyone remember something similar being said a while ago about the Government selling off radio bandwidth...?

increase due ash cloud i would think, but not bad.
i wouldn't classify BOH as one of the UK's smallest, as i have mentioned before, it is a regional airport (100k to 1m pax per yr) BOH has far too much potential to be classified as a candidate for closure. I think that guy from MAG was wrong to talk like he did.
but i do agree that the ''smallest airports'', under 100k per year in my opinion, do look more unstable and i would also suggest closure being the best option... airports like Coventry, Oxford, Cambridge, Filton (closing in 2012), Carlisle, Durham, Humberside, Blackpool, Lydd, Shoreham, Gloucester, Southend (still not sure how this will develop in the long term with LCY and STN so close) also look potentially weak.

I do think he was wrong to talk freely about his thoughts, the shareholders wont be happy!! Not to mention any talks that may be ongoing to attract new business to these sites could be hampered by it.
I can see the for sale sign gong up at BOH and HUY, with MAG wanting to get their hands on STN and either GLA or EDI. I have heard they would even sell EMA if it meant they were guaranteed to get their hands on STN!

It seems the utmost folly to spend 45m bringing the airport up to speed for attractiveness to airlines only to completely diss it while still being part of MAG - it will not only mean the perceived value of the airport comes down, but also any chance of selling it on becomes impossible after being so negative. i think the guys comments were taken out of context. Compared to the basket case of HUY, BOH is pretty successful. Look at the volume of movements, private flights, training, cargo, charter (has increased yoy), MRO facilities, head office for Jets, Av8, Signature, Cobham, Citation centre, Jet2cargo - this list not exhaustive. Plus scheduled services that although very seasonal have one of the highest pax to plane loads of some of the major airports in the UK - BHX, MAN, LHR, LGW, STN, LTN.
With respect Shamrock, I dont see how you could clain HUY as a basket case? It has a based regional airline, busy helicopter operations for offshore support, and regular flights to ABZ and AMS. The leisure market is agreeably stagnant and would agree that is a basket case. I just dont believe either BOH or HUY should be propped up by what is in effect owned by the Greater Manchester tax payers. Will be interesting to see if FR expand at HUY after this seasons ALC flights. Its selling well by all accounts...

That's a laugh!
As soon as Manchester bought the place they took control of the very profitable industrial estate and prevented the airport from investing the profit from it.Presumably the shareholders / taxpayers had no objection to that? Also, to what extent is Manchester funding the airport now? I understand that money for the terminal etc had to be 'borrowed' by Bournemouth and needs to be repaid (with interest of course). Hardly a situation where the taxpayers lose out - though, admittedly, it might be tempting for MAG to sell up and try and get their cash back quickly if they need to get their hands on STN or similar.

Re private flying.
I would say its down to the individual company that has made themselfs succesfull and nothing to do with the airport
The airport does not care on GA just getting the airliners flying.

BORED!
im almost getting bored supporting Bournemouth any longer. If the airport continue to be run by idiots.
i read in a government prospectus on airports for the Olympics (BOH is in 4th place in terms of government recommendation for access/availability) that the airport can handle aircraft 'up to 757,767'. '747's can be handled but up to the individual airline to calculate performance'
no mention in the technical section about CATIII runway capability or the fact that there are now other aircraft types than the 757/767 that can obviously be handled.
its like the airport is stuck in a time warp. The management team are still selling it like they are in the 1980's/90's! Probably when some of the management team were starting their graduate jobs there. So many mistakes in the airport time-table too - 1 for example, it shows Paphos ending 30th april for example, yet it doesnt it runs the whole summer.
PS: even airplane spotters can do a better job identifying which airlines should be operating from BOH and we all predicted what would happen to the airside retail once passenger numbers started dropping. No surprise smith's is closed. The airport spend 45m on terminal then dont wanna support the airport retail outlets so they are left to close on unsociable hours.
anyway sorry for the rant. too early in the morning for this.

Have to agree with Shamrock , its mad how this is all turning out for Bournemouth its so frustrating to see a good airport run so badly !
Simple things like you have mentioned being the out of date timetables on the web etc .... i would actually be happy to submit up to date info or at least give the information to the airport who just seem so un interested or surprised at what is happening to routes and airlines
