Thomson have added an extra Palma service this summer on a Sunday evening which is really good news taking the route to 4 flights a week now in addition to Ryanair s extra service on a Monday taking the total Palma flights to 9 a week
Looks like Thomas Cook love affair with Bournemouth next winter is over as no Tunisia or Tenerife flights and Thomson have dropped Las Palmas in favour of an extra flight to Sharm
Would have been good to see Thomas Cook try Funchal , Las Palmas but obviously not

If they dont want to try theses flights from boh they should perhaps look

The only problem is that they couldn't lift good loads off of Southampton's runway.
A good load would mean just enough fuel to hop to Bournemouth and fuel up properly!!

Flitefone,
As a business traveller myself it's not all about schedule, FF programmes and journey times, as you say it's also about price and this includes travel to/from the airport and associated costs such as car parking.
I was a regular traveller thru BHX, parking a car there wasn't overly expensive but I preferred, on cost, to take the train to/from the airport.
Particularly when travelling long-haul I'm likely to have a few alcoholic drinks, I don't want to risk being over the limit to drive my car from the airport thus, again, public transport is preferred.
Whilst SOU has a limited runway length the travelling between train station and airport is difficult to find fault with!

Flights
Although sou airort has a short runway with the right aircraft you can get to some good places ,the 757 for example can take off fully loaded 235 pax to tenerife non stop ,the a320 has to when full with 180 pax need s to refuel out bound .
It would be good to see more flights being available from boh but need the passengers to go with it.
cheers colin

Sou 757
The Thomson flights that operated from SOU to Tenerife with B757s did not go non stop, they can not take off from SOU fully loaded to Tenerife for a non stop flight due to the runway length so they stopped at various airports but usually Nantes in France for a brief refuel stop.
The return leg from Tenerife to SOU was non stop.
Faro, Malaga, Malta are typical examples of the furthest destinations that can or could be flown non stop from SOU. Even Malta would probably have some sort pay load restrictions.

With ref to the tenerife flights from sou the 757 did go non stop from nov 2003 /april 2004 i was on one of the flights and it was fully loaded.
The 757 performance is better on a short runway than a a320 .
cheers for now col

re: KLM
I work for KLM Cityhopper, Capt on the E190 and yes BOH has been talked about when looking at new routes. The feedback from the CEO is that it would fit in well but ONLY when the airport development work is finished.
As a side note, BOH is NOT on our list of official diversion airports from LHR as we have no handling contract, SOU is no1.

So where do the larger aircraft go that SOU cant handle. And, why use SOU as a 1st diversion airport if LHR is closed. Surely BOH as more space for parking than SOU.
In addition to a previous comment to another blogger. BOH does actually have good road network. The A338 dual carriagway takes you into the centre of Bournemouth passing Boscombe, Christchurch, and other wealthy areas. Northbound it links up with the A31 through the new forest and directly onto the M27/M3/A34. The distance is not greater than going around those roundabouts of the M27. Which are very busy at all times of the day and takes much longer than BOU to the A338 at the Blackwater jnc. OK SOU has a train link and coach links. But I'm sure if there were to be more flights at BOH then it would become part of a better bus/coach network.

BOH's Live Flight Information is showing a Thomson flight (TOM8010) departing BOH for BOH at 21.00 tonight and arriving back at BOH from BOH at 00.45. So 3h 45 min BOH to BOH without landing away.
Is this something like a "Northern Lights" flight?

For a diversion the train link at SOU is not a factor because all transfer passengers are put on a coach back to their original destination.
I think KLM with the 737 will use BOH but Cityhopper will use SOU on diversion from LHR as has happened in the past. If KLM decide that BOH will be a destination on the network and give it to Cityhopper to operate then I am sure the alternate for LHR will change for us.
I know KLM are looking at extra UK destinations with BOH and BFS always being mentioned, so wait and see what happens later on in the year.
The biggest problem is aircraft availability especially the FK70 which would be ideal to start out of BOH. To start BOH they would have to drop a route or upgrade it to another aircraft type and the only likely contender at the moment is LPL to move onto the 737

I think the F100's are just used for charters or as subs, also what frequency would Cityhopper operate if they do come to BOH? 3 Daily allows for plenty of flexibility for connecting passengers if the flights are timed well but would that be too much capacity initially?

Looks like the extra Palma flights on a Sunday with Thomson have been at the expense of the Tunisia flights which have now been cancelled for the summer and Palma been substituted instead at the last minute
Shame they could not have put in a new destination like Crete or Mahon that has been pulled this year and is crying out to be served but know airline is available to serve it

Flights that did operate out of Bournemouth in Jan
Barbados 245 pax
Accapulco 275 pax
Geneva 6860
Tenerife 2735
Sharm 1225
The remaining ski flights and sun routes to Canary Islands all had reasonable loads for the bleak January month !

Good to see that Thomas Cook are operating there Boeing 757 300 series aircraft into Bournemouth for 6 weeks over July / Aug / Sept on the Dalaman route on Fridays
Quite a coup for the airport to have an aircraft of that size operate some services , has not been an aircraft of that size operate regular flight since 1996 when Britannia 767 200 operated the Palma route
