Are Thomas Cook following through with Antalya? i can't seem to be able to book it...

Does this mean that TCA are operating the 757-200 May-Jul? With the -300 the remaining months? It is good news for sure. What is their seat config?

Antalya is bookable but there is a gap in flights from end of June till begining of August ( start of school holidays ) , same with Dalaman but only a 4 week gap there

The 757 300 is operating on a Friday between July 29 - Sept 2 and has a capacity of 280 passengers , pretty impressive !!

I was under the impression that the Bournemouth fly cruise market had been doing very well and was always rather under developed from Bournemouth .

The loads this year as in previous has always been very good and this year saw 8 flights to Barbados with 3 flights in Feb alone

Looks like next winter just 3 flights are operating !!
12 Nov , 3 Feb , 2 Mar to Barbados

Would have been good to see Thomson try some stand alone flights to the Caribbean next year , even Exeter has managed it .

Not sure what the new marketing director has been up to but really needs to start pushing some more destinations to make up for the demise of Palmair . The airport is desperate for some return of the old routes and next winter is certainly not looking promising . Even the travel agents are saying so many people asking for these but unable to deliver and sending them up the road to Gatwick , Bristol and Exeter

Whilst Tomson generally operate the Fly Cruise flights, they do so under Charter. I Have just returned from a fly cruise which was under charter to P and O who also use TCX (albeit not from BOH) Incidentally an almost full 283 seat 767-300

The outbound flight was 2 hours late leaving and with a stop at Shannon made for a very long day and caused crew problems . The return BOH flight was the only one delayed comimg back and by three hours. We had "the spare aircaft from Manchester" as the allocated one went tech. All this suggests that TOM's 767 fleet are already tied up and they don't have sufficient aircraft for stand alone flights to the Caribbean from BOH

Living locally was fine but for those further away not very helpful.

If BOH are interested in getting larger ac then they need to invest in some decent steps. Using the steps to get off was a bit like a fun house at the fair. Not a nice experience if you were unsteady on your feet.

As as aside it was very interesting to hear the theories about the reason for the Shannon stop. Fuel cheaper in Ireland, BOH - Shannon not an international flight so reduced landing fees. Real reason I though was runway length.

Suspect runway length was the reason for a tech stop (fuel) but the other factors probably had a bearing on choice, together with optimum North Atlantic tracks on the day?

Bournemouth handled 33 , 648 passengers in February

Obviously with the return of Ryanair these figures were pushed up with good load factors on nearly all flights operated
Top 5 routes

1 ) Geneva 6248 Easy Jet
2 ) Tenerife 5238
3 ) Alicante 3732
4 ) Arrecife 3078
5 ) Malaga 2449

Sharm performed well despite the troubles in Egypt and goes twice weekly for winter 2011 / 12 . Innsbruck , Barbados and Acapulco charters also went out nearly full

Atlantic holidays have added another flight to Funchal using Monarch , taking the total to 5 flights this summer including Newmarket holidays , lets hope they continue into the winter as this was always a popular route with Palmair

Easy Jet are also returning with a daily winter service to Geneva with 2 flights operating on a Saturday starting in Dec

Your source?

This is news to me DILLTHEDOG.

They may be losing money on the commercial part of the terminal (shops, consessions etc) but the airfield is certainly not losing money. There is a considerable amount of activity and in fact an increase on private and business jet flights which have significant financial benefits.

My second point related to FEB 2011 pax traffic. Although a big reduction on FEB 2010, 33,648 is respectable in comparison with other similar airports like Exeter and Doncaster doing similar numbers. This, with only 2 based aircraft at BOH is encouraging. It would only take 1 or 2 more based a/c to boost this to much stronger and more profitable levels for the terminal facilities like retail.

GVA coming back for W11/12 at 8 weekly flights is also reassuring.

Have to agree with the above post regarding Feb passenger levels

If you take away Dublin , Murcia and Edinburgh ( have lost so many routes ! )
from this year it makes up the missing 13 , 000 passengers lost

For those interested Thomas Cook are operating there Boeing 767 300 into Bournemouth on the Dalaman route on Friday 8 April its a one off i believe then reverts back to the 757 for the summer but for 6 weeks they are using the much larger 757 300 as already mentioned

Rumours

These rumours could be true, but it's coming the start of the season they must have some knowledge of advanced bookings and as of yet no more companys pulling so i think we have to be optomistic not pessamistic.

Grrr

Look at the price of JET A1, that gives you an indication as to the state of the airline industry and where it is heading.

Thomson have added Las Palmas to the winter schedule again having previously dropped this flight in favour of an extra Sharm flight on a monday , this has now been dropped in favour of returning the Las Palmas flight which was always a popular service and had good loads of around 95 % . No doubt as well the situation in Egypt had something to do with this

Thomson have dropped flights to Sharm from Durham , Leeds , Norwich and Edinburgh so its good to see that Bournemouth have kept these flights

Having posted the above with a bit of good news now comes the roller coaster that is Bournemouth

Looks like Inghams Ski have dropped Bournemouth for next winter to Innsbruck after many years of operating with a winter schedule using Austrian / Lauda Air

Its really hard to understand the logic to this as this has always been hugely popular with skiers each winter with near enough full loads each week and a market that has been steadily built up over the years from a CRJ 700 to A321 / B737 800 now being used

It just leaves now a weekly Turin charter with Crystal Ski , very disappointing having seen Chambery , Grenoble , Salzburg , Milan and now Innsbruck go

You want to know why BOH isn't getting any business?

BOH charges

PAX ARRIVING 6.08 domestic, 10.75 international
LANDING PER TONNE 19.81
SECURITY PER DEP PAX 6.66
CUE CHARGE - CHECK IN 0.05

For comparison, Jersey airports full fees are as follows:

PAX ARRIVING 4.28 all routes
LANDING PER TONNE 8.00
SECURITY PER DEP PAX 1.84

Now ask yourself why airlines are not considering BOH.
Published charges seem designed to put business off rather than attract.

And the corresponding charges for Southampton, Bristol, Gatwick and Exeter?

Comparing Bournemouth's charges with Jersey is just ridiculous. Jersey is hardly a competitor.

I would think they should be trying to attract PAX and Airlines, not loose even more!! I really despair!

How on Earth can they charge £2.50 for every drop off.

Does this mean passengers arriving by Taxis have to pay £2.50

Surely they can only charge £2.50 if you use the Car Park. I hope they have a new drop off zone when the nerw arrivals opens

How crazy.
