IOMspotter do you mean scratched by the loaders again or, as I suspect, cancelled due to the inclement weather??

IOM Spotter - best to check facts first. I understand the easy departed LPL for IOM but was unable to land at IOM due weather & returned to LPL.
You can hardly blame the airline for your dodgy weather.

You are indeed correct. I was the Captain on today's EZY LPL-IOM. We departed anticipating an improvement in the weather, based on the forecast conditions. Having held at CAR for 30 minutes it was obvious that the vis was steady at 300 metres RVR (800 required) and not improving, so we returned to LPL.

Apologies to all on-board, we did the best we could. I hope that you all make it to the island ASAP.

Regards

G1

PS I'm ex Manx Airlines ATP circa 1994 and was really looking forward to seeing some familiar faces at Ronaldsway today!

IOM don't report RVR info. The 300m reported was the met vis, still no good when factored by the 1.5.

Oh for cat 2 facilities eh.

A significant difference between the BE and EZY services to the IOM is that the BE aircraft are IOM based and will always hold longer or try again following a divert. EZY will go back to LPL and continue the LPL programme.

OK, I appreciate that they report met vis. It was still not good enough today.

Are you really Mr Unsworth?!

No, but he did do my line training on the ATP.

I still see him occasionally, and you'll be pleased to know that he hasn't changed a bit.

Hi! I was a passenger onboard the flight today. Thanks for giving us a chance by holding and not diverting / cancelling straight away. Think it was about time to divert back to Liverpool in the end though as I dont know about you, but we were starting to get a little dizzy down the back .

All in all I think it was handled well by easyjet. With next day transfer available and overnight accommodation or a full refund offered. Though it was very dissapointing to hear the final boarding call for the Flybe flight to IOM as we waited in the service desk queue! Some people were not best impressed but that's island weather I guess... Thanks again Gremlin 1 and your crew.

I was waiting for the EZY in the IOM on 10th, weather was very poor.
Hung around to see if we could go with Flybe, when they did land at about midday, Flybe still scrapped the service. Some passengers had suffered this for two days.
We opted for steam packet in the end, as did most of the EZY passengers.
It was just one of those things.

Good flight back on the 11th though, I will try EZY again.

GlobeMaster on the IOM?

I'm working away at the moment but my children report there was a HUGE, 4 jets not props, aircraft on approach to IOM, can only be described as a "Massive BAe 146 on steroids!" I'm guessing a GlobeMaster? All grey in colour. The biggest a/c on the IOM for some time I guess. Anyone got any info?

Yes a C17, been doing circuits all afternoon. Just like the early 1990s when we regularly had the Fat Alberts doing circuits and bumps. Let's hope they make it a regular occurence.

I see the IOM airport is still way down on last year. Not what was promised. All the arrival of EZY has done is switch pax from MAN & BLK to LPL. Total NW market still down. Load factors down. Everyone is hurting.

Yep read the bit in the local rag. the airports lost about 4.5 million quid and those plonkers up in Douglas were thinking about a fee of 6 pounds per head EXTRA for using the airport when the taxes on the flights on the IOM bits are already shy high (oooH!). Time for economies starting with the biggest waste of space there, literally. The airports another of the sacred manxy gravy trains, yessir.

So what exactly is the biggest waste of space Tinwald dear boy. And what qualifies you to know so much about this?

Come on Airportioman,if that is true then you have to admit something is seriously wrong when the airport is losing that much money, when most other airports in the UK are a viable buisness. Especially after the astronomical ammount of money that is been spent there in recent years!
