I am not saying that on every route there should be two airlines, but if only two airlines with aircraft larger than 19 seats are around that show some sort of commitment (although that is somewhat doubtful as far as Aer Arann is concerned) to serving the island, base aircraft etc., IOM may soon face a flybe monopoly. Point of the matter is that the airlines that have been lost have not all withdrawn from routes on which there was competition (e.g. NCL) and at least the most important market for IOM ideally should have another carrier. Becoming wholly dependend on Flybe can be rather risky - because unlike in the past, with the disappearance of almost all independent regional airlines in the UK, there is no other UK airline around that could step in should Flybe ever loose interest or go under (like flybe did when BA withdrew).
