Full circle?

Chevron to check out Baltasound airport | Shetland News

Sadly Brymon & Dash 7s probably not on the agenda this time. Would be interesting to see Unst back on the screens again though, IF Chevron choose that option, as I assume flights would be f/t Aberdeen.

Full emergency at Sumburgh airport | Shetland News

Same site, also an Eastern Saab 2000 mayday at Sumburgh today, thankfully a safe landing.

600m runway at Unst. Wonder who would operate it and what would be used? Quite a long way in an Islander!

Presume it would have to be helicopters but would they have the legs to go direct?

Anyhoo 2017 is still a while away.

Given current aircraft capabilities this is likely to require around a doubling of the runway length and a pretty challenging instrument approach to 12/missed approach from 30. But they'd be able to design it with RNAV approaches from the outset which would simplify things a bit.

Interesting to note that Unst is closer to Bergen than Aberdeen.

search for new MD

And so the merry-go-round continues.

Current interim Nick Barton off to a job in London, outwith aviation.

Previous MD Derek Provan, seconded to LHR is, probably not to anyone's surprise, not returning.

So who will be the next mouthpiece claiming to represent ABZ to be appointed by HAH?

Where are you getting 50% from? Is that the average last week or a three month rolling total? The 90% at weekends on Scotland-London is a given, if you're not selling out at weekends, give up now.

im not sure that is strictly true, eg BA London flights are always quieter at the weekend (and less frequent/smaller aircraft). So not a given that they need ti be busy at weekend to make them work esp when busier week days can more than compensate.

Based on last few weeks, obviously not since it started, but generally aircraft have 80 pax plus during week, weekends seem higher, 140+ pax

And 10k more than the previous all time high set back in July 2007.

That's now 3 record months in a row.

That's good news. With a tentative recovery in the economy underway generally, let's hope that continues to instill confidence in all sectors.

OE2013 next month may be heading for a record in terms of exhibitors & potential delegates visiting, so that will help the Sept figures no doubt.

Summer holidays maybe? Some airlines do cut back when business drops off due to people taking their break. Particularly those rotations that are not peak workings.

The Tue/Thu evening Easy rotations are back from the start of September.

In July, there was 71,000 pax on the LHR route so if we assume BA have 76% loads (55,000) that leaves 16,000 pax on the VS flights which equates to an average of 89 pax per flight or just over 50% loads which corresponds with what ABA was saying a few posts back.

Pretty good figures and also worth mentioning it was several thousand more than on MAN-LHR despite them having more rotations overall.

Gainjet B757

After sitting at the airport for a few days, Celtic FC were transported out of the airport after their league match here today having chartered this aircraft for the purpose. They are en route direct to Astana, Kazakhstan for the Euro football tie in the coming week. A 7-8hr flight, so a loooong haul.

Although we are talking about a reasonably lightly-loaded (but no doubt well-fueled) 757, I presume without the runway extension this flight could not have been undertaken in one go.

Interesting movement anyway.

ps. it was the 757 not Celtic that was sitting at the airport for a few days!
