I gather the Swiss consortium were back at Coventry today for another meeting, so if anyone's got any inside news on the outcome of this, please post it here.
I flew to EGBO today and spoke to one of the maintenance team at the airfield - he claimed to know of an ex-Cov ATCO (or ATCA) who'd been asked to report back to Coventry next week. Must admit, as Marshalls employees, I thought they'd all got jobs elsewhere now (can anyone confirm?) but worth mentioning anyway. Maybe someone's just been asked to return to switch the ground radar off

Regret there has been to ong at selling EGBE by CCC
Anyone bsaed there will surely be thinking seriosuly about pulling out and going else where.
I Suspect Air Redrow Homes with there fleet os Houses may well e moving onto the Airport
I Hope not but the Council in Coventry do not appear to have done a good job here.

By the way I'm still worried... If there will be too much delay, someone will move out of Coventry anyway... At that point the Swiss will have an Airport with anyone to use it......

I have to say, talk of a property developer buying the land and houses springing up smacks a little bit of uneducated pessimism. Less than half a mile from the airport, within the bounds of a village, with existing transport links lies a huge swathe of brown-fields land. For years now the old motorworks at Ryton has remained little more than a pile of rubble. No houses have sprung up.
The aviation business is suffering a downturn, but nothing like the collapse in the housing and building industry.
This is a huge financial decision by a (hopefully) competent company. They must ensure the rot caused by dire mismanagement by the previous encumbants is completely rooted out. The must talk to their boards and investors.
No real business was done between closure in Dec and the beginning of the New Year. Poor weather a fortnight ago would also have slowed thing down.
They are not making a simple decision between 'Cheese and Onion' and 'Salt and Vinegar'. This will take time, it will be confidential, but we all hope they will pull it off.
Oh, and bright side - aviations slowest month(s) of the year. Could've been July

Does anyone believe that CVT will be saved and remain the same size? Economically that has proven time and time again to fail. If (big IF) anyone buys into it they will have to raise revenue from another source and drastically reduce the size and operation.
I don't even think ATC will return. It's an unnecessary expense for a small airport.
I still don't believe the rumours going around......I cannot believe that the Council has not kept its Citizens fully up to date, or indeed, that there have been no leaks from within....
I'm prepared to be surprised, but doubt I will be...

Just to set the record straight, The Post office in Baginton has never objected to the airport expansion, to the contrary the sub postmaster has given interviews in several local papers and BBC Radio Cov and Warwickshire supporting the airport, identifying the impact it's loss would have on local businesses and local jobs.
The sooner all parties use common sense and sought out a viable way of developing Baginton airport the better.

Who says they are looking at bringing in passenger traffic?
As many know, the airport foot print is quite large, maybe they will be looking at aviation related businesses, such as maintenance companies etc.
As has been mentioned on this thread before,I think, there are not enough hangars at BHX for the companies that operate from there, maybe that work could be done at CVT,as well as other airlines.
Another idea could be airframe recycling, again there is enough land area to put something like this in.

Lets put it into perspective.
All the Summer, and most of the Winter IT and scheduled routes have been sorted between airports and operators for 2010 and early 2011.
Coventry has been slowly stagnating for some 6 to 8 weeks now, anyone of any commercial worth has moved away and is unlikely to come back.
Coventry Airport is dead, it has no commercial future and may as well be closed permanently to give the best return for the local rate payers who effectively own it via the City Council.

There seems to be alot of people with issues of the airport remaining at a similar size. Maybe you have an interest in the downsizing of the airfield but there are alot of people who would love to see it operating at a similar size/CAT as before. As some people have said possibly there will be a shock for all the non believers soon

On the subject of the scale of operation, it will of course depend on the business plan of the new owners. They appear to be aiming to concentrate on MRO, Cargo, GA and BA. Out of those, in my opinion, it is MRO which could put CVT on the map and create a sustainable airport operation.
CVT has never been given a chance, mainly because there has never been a sustainable business plan or the required investment forthcoming, it is hoped that this latest development could provide the job security which the airport staff deserve.
Despite the anti's during the TOM op, the recent closure has shown that there is much local goodwill towards the airport and if it can contribute to the local economy, by providing much needed jobs, then I believe all on here would welcome that development. Let's wait until we hear the outcome of the takeover talks and then LET'S GIVE IT A CHANCE!!
