Quite simply they will apply for a dispensation from the CAA and will be given one - assuming the crew are licensed and current and the aircraft is airworthy. At the end of the day nobody wants an aircraft ' stuck' not earning revenue.

Well there are two things you might need to know...

As a pilot, when you're flying around CVT there is no need to contact CVT Radar or Birmingham Radar (unless you go into their airspace)... Moreover you can go overhead CVT at 500' if you want, no problem at all, as sadly, the ATZ as been indefinitely suspended by CAA and that was stated on the NOTAMS today.

They're trying to sell Coventr out. According to rumors, it is not an official source, if they can't sell Coventry within this week, the Airport will close forever.

That's what I know but I hope they'll give it more time than just 5 days... I basically live in CVT airport, I go there everyday, and now it's more or less like a ghost town...

You can see everywhere worried faces, and no one is happy to be in such a pending situation, risking redundancy, so close to Christmas.

It's time to wait and see; and we can just hope as the final decision is out of our power (unless there's someone here that can buy CVT!)

Since the restriction to a licensed airfield only applies to passenger flights anyway, as far as I can see it could even be flown as a revenue flight as they are freighters!

By the way when I say 'private' I am mean as opposed to 'public-transport'. A private flight can be flown by a paid crew (with CPL or ATPLs), but has restrictions as to how the flight is paid for.

Amcapt - I don't think it is written. Remember that in general the restrictions are written, not the permissions (unless they are exceptions to the restrictions). Therefore if it is not forbidden by statute or by legal precedent then it is allowed. That is the basis of British common law.

Amcapt89....You're getting carried away. Firstly, when it comes to situations like this you will find the CAA are very flexible in providing solutions, (i.e.) derrogations to fly the aircraft out. The first question is are they airworthy, with a current ARC, if not they may need a permit to fly. If they are the CAA will no doubt issue a derrogation, with certain restrictions as in a runway inspection prior to departure, and some form of protection against incursion during the take off roll. PPR will be issued by the administrator assuming there are no outstanding charges on the aircraft.

You are wrong on your interpretation of private flight! If I own an aircraft not attached to an AOC, that has all its documentation in order, I am perfectly entitled to hire crew, and pay them once they are licensed on type, and current, once the flight is not for reward (passenger/cargo). An AOC offers you the privelege to fly for reward. How do you think lessors and aircraft owners move their machines around! Stand corrected if otherwise wrong.

Now back to thread!

If you are considering flying past CVT lookout for the Air Ambulance that is still operating from CVT. Though I do believe it does not get above 500agl much. Fingers crossed that in the new year it will begin operating again.

Latest from local paper....Coventry Telegraph - News - Coventry News - Coventry Airport closure is "disastrous", say business chiefs
A consortium of companies based at the site have been in talks with the airport’s landowners, Coventry City Council, to discuss taking over the running of the airport after it was closed amid spiralling debts last week.

0523 cov man - Are you seriously suggesting that the leader of the Roman Catholic Church on all Earth is going to land at an unlicenced airfield, with no ATZ, no ATC, and no fire cover? Not to mention its current NOTAM status.

He'll have to hope he can land amongst all the flying pigs I think. (Mind you, I note you didn't say landing, you said coming !).

Now, if the airport does re-open (and I certainly hope it does) this may change!!

HC.

HeliCraig, Perhaps before being so condescending towards 0523 cov man, you should have a read of the article in Coventry Telegraph.

Coventry Telegraph - News - Coventry News - The Pope set for Coventry visit?

No one mentioned he would be flying into Coventry.

I read it - it's about as likely as him actually landing there. Even the Telegraph couch it in question marks (see title), and even the archdiocese are couching it in "ifs, buts and maybe's".

Sorry for concentrating on the landing aspect - but its the usual overly optimistic stuff from 0523! That said, didn't mean to be quite so condescending - I shall go and lock myself in a dark room!!

look at coventry telegraph
Yeah, right. Used to be a good read, now I wouldn't put it down for pets to pee on.

Why is it that everything that was good about the city has turned to crap?
