Well also if His Holiness the Pope will come to Coventry, I don't think that will save CVT airport form closure, looking at the short time left to the administrator, if that was the point of the post...
It would be great to have His Holyness here in CVT, but I would like to gather somewhere else than in EGBE, hoping that at the time being it will be busy again...!

Odds on that Mike Collett is going to buy the whole site for a piddling amount from the Liquidator and reopen as a privately owned airfield with no more than an AFISO service.
Realistically he needs no more than that to continue his operations, he'll probably keep the NDB procedure just for a company only approved approach.
Other than that, he'll galdly rent out space to flying clubs, but if they want instrument training facilities theyll have to go elsewhere.
Good luck to him.

Just to add my ten pence worth based on what I have heard (I fly privately out of Coventry):
1) The rent on the land to Coventry City Council is rumoured to be £600K per annum. This probably makes it untenable with the minimal commercial and GA activity there.
2) Marshalls were being paid £2million per annum to provide the full ATC service we enjoyed. That clearly isn't going to continue.
3) Having said the above, if Coventry loses its airport it would become one of the largest cities in the UK not to have an airport, so a major status loss to the city.
4) I don't really understand this bit but it is apparently mandated that the land can not be used for anything other than as an airfield - though I am sure this is something the council could overrule.
It seems likely then that someone will do a deal with the council for reduced rent for a fixed term and we will wind up with an AFISO service to support the GA and remaining commercial activity.
In the meantime we have been told that we can fly in and out of CVT on safetycom and the airfield will be open (as in the gates unlocked) as per its previously posted Christmas opening times.

Its is unfortunately still wrong, wherever it has been posted. I doubt that Global Infrastructure Partners even know where Coventry is. Which is not to say that there have not been meetings.......
And by the way, it is a receiver, not an administrator that has been appointed.

I guess it was more to do with attempting to pass on the risk to the Contractor, strange how airport managers seem to think that contracting out ATC will reduce their exposure to CAA scrutiny.

Re the contracting out of ATC I believe that it was a requirement imposed by the regulator upon WMIA as they had concerns.

I suspect the council needs to be seen to do all it can but is going to find it hard to get a viable buisness.
Coventry Telegraph - News - Coventry News - New owner for Coventry Airport?
The council has had talks to save many firms in Coventry. Most have been a waste of time.
It will need to be saved qucikly as those who have decamped may not come back.
