Pat Byrne has said publicly that maintaining some core of own-brand scheduled flying provides a good "shop window" to demonstrate the quality of WX's product/service to prospective ACMI airline customers, but I think the LCY niche for WX is dwindling into nothingness anyway. WX's main LCY routes are DUB, AMS and RTM. On the former they have strong competition from BA (with nicer aircraft, as long as the Superjets aren't able to operate into LCY) and on AMS they face attack from KLM. That doesn't really leave a defensible network. Add to that the door gradually closing on wet-lease/franchise operations for AF, and you could well be right: the scope for own-brand flying seems to be diminishing.

So the question of the day is, with all the hiring, where are they going to find crews? They are hiring for all fleets, and so is Stobart, but I think the pool is dry. This is especially true for Captains no? Now the interesting thing, there is a source worldwide but I do not think all will have the right to live and work nor an EASA license. Yes, T's&C's will have to improve but I think there will still be a shortage. This is a worldwide issue. Europe is going to be next trying to attract and retain crew after the ME, U.S. and China.

Given the orientation of Cityjet towards white label operations, e.g. Brussels Airlines, SAS etc. And the gradual reduction in the LCY schedule, what is the likelihood of Cityjet exiting LCY in favour of Flybe??

Hi Guys, reading through here I see alot of stuff on CityJet A/C etc. Can I ask, as someone with an upcoming interview with them, are they a good company to join? Are they stable? I have a full time jet job at the minute so want to be careful that I'm not making a huge mistake. Any advice?

From the BMI regional section:
From ch-aviation:
bmi regional (BM, Aberdeen Dyce) will shortly wet-lease an undisclosed number of SSJ 100-95s from CityJet (WX, Dublin Int'l) ch-aviation research has revealed.
According to the UK carrier's booking portal, effective February 27, the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft twinjet will be deployed on bmi regional flights from Bristol Int'l to each of Aberdeen Dyce and Paris CDG. The contract to either destination will end on March 19 and 25 respectively following which both services will revert to their usual ERJ-145 equipment.

I've noticed that Cityjet stopped providing real time customer service through twitter at the end of 2016. It now seems only to be provided in case of severe disruption. Twitter customer service (for an airline) was something that they pioneered a few years ago, and it's sad to see it go. I wonder if it suggests that things aren't going too well for them - or if it's simply the case that they've got so little own label flying left that maybe it's just not worth the expense?

If you look at "Tweets & Replies" they are still proving customer service, "Tweet" is only when they tweet something publicly which is usually weather related for most carriers as WX don't announce new routes/sales etc that often like other carriers.

bmiRegional schedules leased SuperJet operations in Mar 2017 :: Routesonline
Hi all, have just read that Brussels Airlines are to wet lease CityJet Superjets from April 17 for 2 years as RJ100 replacements.

Also will all three aircraft mentioned in the article begin operating for SN in April?. If yes then are there a couple of aircraft due for delivery in the next month?

Thanks - my mistake.
When it comes to the decline in Cityjet branded flying, I found this list of destinations / frequencies from 2010 which was a fascinating reminder of how big they used to be:
• Amsterdam 7 flights a day
• Antwerp 5 flights a day
• Avignon 1 flight a day
• Dublin 5 flights a day
• Dundee 2 flights a day
• Edinburgh 3 flights a day
• Eindhoven 2 flights a day
• Florence 1 flight a day
• Luxembourg 3 flights a day
• Milan 2 flights a day
• Nantes 2 flights a day
• Paris Orly 6 flights a day
• Rotterdam 8 flights a day
• Pau 3 flights a day
• Toulon 2 flights a day
Plus a couple of seasonal routes and the AF CDG / ORY flying.
Although these routes obviously included the VLM flying, there nevertheless must be a monumental amount of redundant aircraft capacity at the moment?

Its hard to make money on LCY, and Cityjet are moving away from being just a scheduled airline only. Sad for the affected families but LCY should need to wake up...
But still Cityjet must be doing well going from 17 aircraft to 40 with many away on third party contracts.

Their EIDW service consistently yields strong to full load factor, it's a good service for the ticket price - automatic hold baggage allowance, free seat allocation choices, beverages & snack included, and convenient quick airport to get in and out without much grief. I'd be surprised if WX turn their back on their roots and abandon the EIDW route, can't see them doing that. It's a cash cow route for WX.
