Well they are going from gas guzzling old airframes to modern efficient jets, albeit a risky type. Apparently the grounding of the entire fleet is Aeroflot playing politics. Specific airframes are affected but Aeroflot, as the largest operator, grounded their entire fleet and are putting in a claim.

When the Avros are replaced their fuel and maintenance expenses will shrink massively....hopefully.

Apparently the Sukhoi can climb AND accelerate at the same time, something the Avro can't! Welcome to the 20th century Cityjet.....

Aeroflot had them more less forced on them in the first place so no real surprise they are playing games.

It's been suggested on the SEN 5 thread that the SSJ will not be able to land there (despite all the Stobart merger / takeover business) in the wet. Given that the LDA at LCY is around 300 metres less than SEN, what sort of mods have cityjet asked for? Replace the drum brakes!!!

Sukhoi issued a statement at the Farnborough show to the effect that the brakes and flight controls will be modified to reduce the max weight LDR from its current c1,600m Dry Runway requirement. It certainly looks as if the aircraft in its present form would be considerably payload-limited at SEN in WET WET WET conditions and could not operate at all at LCY as things stand - hence the reason why Cityjet will not introduce it at LCY until late 2018 apparently.

So this is my question: Are Cityjet sure that the mods on the SSJ will provide the incredible braking performance improvement needed to operate out of LCY? If not - even if they can walk away from the contract without penalty - it will leave them in a real mess with regards to future operations.

The improved brakes will just be a part of it. They need to reduce Vapp from its current high value and that is where the flight control mods will come in.

Sounds time consuming and expensive. Are they doing this just for little ol' Cityjet or have they concluded they need to make the improvements regardless?

Didn't I read somewhere on here that winglets were being developed for LCY operations?

Yes winglets are also part of the deal. They can be added to aircraft already delivered. Also some software mods. if an A118 can operate in then the superjet will have no problem when suitable mods are developed. What I am curious about is why WX are not using them on scheduled ops at DUB. Anyone know? Has AF refused to have them used on their franchise routes? Would make sense to have them being used on the scheduled routs that do not involve LCY surely?

My understanding is that the AF crew union prohibits aircraft with more than a certain number of seats (95?) from being used on franchise routes.

So, can't use them at LCY, politics may prevent one being used on the a route you'd think would be a must. Still, there's an upside. They're not particularly thirsty on the ground. Perhaps not worthy of the moniker 'super' yet.

Can't they just stick a few converter tables and bring it under the 95 seat limit?

Interesting point about the seat limit with AF. Surely the point is for them to replace all the Avros eventually and presumably they will continue operating for AF? It must have been thought through but does not look that way from the outside. Are we seeing WX move towards being purely an ACMI business?

AF ops finish in October, HOP taking over routes solely operated by WX and boost freq on others where both share with exception of DUB which goes to AF.

Considering joining them in BRU as DEC on the SSJ100 - any insight info, like roster, possibility to commute, work climate? It looks like a good workplace in the regional airline business, doesnt? Also post me if possibel, thx!

Cityjet reducing LCY Network from S17

It looks like Cityjet is cutting back its network from LCY from S17:

AMS down to 4x per day (probably due to KLM's new 4x a day flight)
RTM down to 3x per day
ANT down to 3x per day
ORY cancelled
NTE cancelled

Drastic cutbacks or a once large LCY network....

Cityet are also listed to operate charter flights to Innsbruck for Inghams Holidays this summer from both Leeds/Bradford and Edinburgh on Saturdays. Don't know if theses flights are to be operated by the new SSJ100 or older Avro RJ85.

Aircraft due to operate following patten
Leeds-Innsbruck-Edinburgh / Edinburgh-Innsbruck-Leeds.
