MAN-SNN was Cancelled this morning due to a Technical Problem according to the EI website. It doesn't seem to be Cancelled tomorrow.

Summer 2014

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus will be basing 2 B757 a/c in SNN for S14. They will operate a daily BOS service and a 5 weekly JFK service.

SNN-JFK operates everyday except Tues/Sat.

Great news!

Delta & United

Delta are starting SNN-JFK on the 30 March 2014 for the summer. It is starting earlier than this year.

UA have put SNN-ORD on sale for S14. It will return on the 05 June 2014.

All great news. Hopefully the airport can keep building the bit of monetum they have going. A long road ahead, but so far some positive stuff happening.

Although not a route development, thought this was another positive.

Yes agree great news for Shannon. This will really expand the US market into the airport.

One query on today's announcement from the new CEO ;

The Boston service will go daily from January 6, with New York from end of March.

I'm trying to book NY for Tues April 1st from Shannon to return Sat April 12th, it's showing me no flights available from Shannon on both those days , all other days seem to be available

Also it looks like all Tues and Sat are unavailable and announcement said services are daily

I don't think EI said it was daily, I expect it was the media who got mixed up. It will be 5 weekly.

The reason why they are shown as sold out is because that was the default schedule for the summer season. Fares and times for JFK will be loaded tomorrow.

How does 12*757 compare to 7*A330 for seat numbers in the configurations that EI use?

Answering my own question...

It's hard to find details on EI's configuration for the 757, but there isn't too much variation in what is offered in a 2 class configuration, so it should be around a 20% boost in seat capacity on their Transatlantic routes out of Shannon.

You're right that there's not too much variation - it's typically just a question of how many rows of business class. This suggests the configuration will be C12Y165.

For all the spin and hype yesterday, Aerlingus' Long haul operation at Shannon will still be less than it was during the 707 area. Irish airports apart from Dublin have been struggling for the last 5 years and tend to turn every change of schedule by an airline into a major news story.

We had similar hype in Knock yesterday about the so called 4 Connacht Final Specials by Ryanair which turned out to be the existing flights with one extra Stansted flight thrown in to the mix.

New routes are heralded in with a blaze of glory while routes that are dropped are buried without a mention. It's a clever marketing technique but ultimately the end of year passenger figure and financial results tell the true story.

12*174 = 2088 seats per week for the Boeing 757**
7*272 = 1094 seats per week for the Airbus A332**

Just a small increase..

** Outbound

4176 seats per week.. An increase of 368 PAX on a weekly basis for

You can't compare an era when all of Dublin's traffic was ridiculously forced to use SNN to an era where absolutely none of it is.

"You can't compare an era when all of Dublin's traffic was ridiculously forced to use SNN to an era where absolutely none of it is."

+1

there is also absolutely no comparison between an extra flight for one weekend in Knock alongside some twaddle about the queen and london mayor, to what was announced yesterday regarding SNN...much as the usual suspects try.

You are right about one thing though Ryan2000, the figures will tell the tale. I don't know anyone expecting miracles for 2013, but there will be growth and if they continue as they are doing now, most people will be quite happy.

I agree that it's been a good year for Shannon. I feel that yesterday's news represents a clever change of strategy by Aerlingus which will lead to similar volume but higher frequency. Some of the media reaction sounds bit over the top.

media reaction regarding SNN? Most of the media reaction has been about the San Fran route to be fair. I havent seen any ott reaction regarding Shannon, its mainly been a footnote in the reports about Dublin
