Just checked ryanir website there re knock and there is actually a second extra flight on the Monday as well to and from London for the match so guess they meant four in total ie 2 in and 2 out!

I beg your pardon but DUB did nothing to deserve transatlantic flights over SNN in that era. Where is the folklore , recognition, or defined history in DUB flights? DUB had and always had zero innovation. Until recently just south of the main runway midpoint was not the the nicest place on the planet.

Fully agree Bannercounty Dublin wants to secure all the TA services and not allow Shannon to be the gateway to the beautiful South west of Ireland.
I know plenty of Americans now arriving into Dublin and being put on busses to the Cliffs of Moher and Connemara and being told they can do it in a day! Really the whole west coast of Ireland should have TA services as well to counter balance all the access into Dublin . I'm sure Airports like Cork and Knock could grow as well if they can land the big planes from the US.

Nobody is forcing them to do it in a day.. Plenty of tours of the west have 7 day packages. Shannon is a seasonal market and nobody is stopping them from getting routes. Airlines will always pick DUB as its the capital weather we like it or not.airlines are after high yielding traffic and SNN is all B757 and in let's say 10 years there will be very few B757 flying across the pound. Will SNN be able to support B777 and B787 or A350 flights, only time will tell.

In 10 years time, either the 737 Max or A32X NEO (and hopefully both) will be flying. East coast airports are easily within range from SNN, ORK etc.
Even at the moment, a 737-900ER could comfortably do Boston. While JFK is theoretically in range, the incidence of tech stops would make it unlikely.
Should the 737 Max/A32X NEO become an aircraft of choice, it could potentially be interesting as you could then see the same aircraft type used for transatlantic and short-haul operations.

I haven't followed the us carriers orders but have any actually talked about T/A with these aircraft. Most have hundreds of orders for larger aircraft. Aer Lingus have talked about it. I suppose that if a US route failed from SNN the easy thing would be to blame DUB.

I haven't seen any airline make any comment on which routes they may choose to use their aircraft on.
At the moment, of the airlines operating TA out of Shannon, United and American have 737 Max orders and American have A320 NEO orders.
What could potentially be interesting is that SouthWest have ordered the 737 Max and JetBlue the A320 NEO. If either of them decided to go TA, it could shake up the whole market.

Sunway have added Shannon to Lanzarote to there Winter 2013/2014 programme. The flights start on the 03 November and operate until the 27th April 2014.
All the flights are being operated by Aer Lingus.
The flight details are as follows:
Dep SNN 14:50 Arr ACE 18:50
Dep ACE 19:50 Arr SNN 23:45
Does anyone know if EI are going to base a second aircraft in SNN?

DUB would have had 100% of the TATL traffic from the day the 747 entered the market had it not been for market interference. History matters for nothing in this business. And anyway, Shannon is not Foynes - that being where the history actually happened.
