cornishphil, the flights operate direct from Plymouth on some routes but operate a sort of triangular pattern i.e. Plymouth-Newquay-Newcastle-Plymouth-Newquay-Dublin-Plymouth-Newquay-Glasgow.
I don't know what has gone on the past few days. It's unusual for so many cancellations with no replacement aircraft. Can only think they have two unserviceable aircraft or is it something to do with flight routing restrictions or ill crew?? The Gatwick and Manchester/Leeds flights seem okay, it's just the new routes.

more likely to be very bad luck!
from what i understand most of the schedule only requires 4 out of the 5 current aircraft, so to have 3 of them go tech all at the same time is very bad luck!
how many airlines can absorb 60% of aircraft going tech and still operate a normal service ?
from rumours on another site it seems as though a/c 6 is likely to be arriving very soon

Cornishsimon is right in that they can operate their schedule with only 4 aircraft, they like to keep the 5th free for charters etc. and to cover for problems...it has just been a bad week. I know atleast two aircraft have been out of service. I believe one aircraft went tech and the other was badly damaged while in for a maintenance check.

A bit of bad luck I think. Two aircraft out for unscheduled maintenence. But to be fair they do seem to have spent money to bring in subcharters today and yesterday to keep things going as much as possible. I understand things should be back to normal from tomorrow.

i think with the backing of shh and the sensible management at WOW that the future will be bright for them.
over the next 12-18 months i can see gradual expandion of the fleet and route network

Has this delay in growth been planned? But is this really the right time to expand?

There was the perfect opportunity to acquire the -300 from the 'new Flybe' as previously mentioned by Jerboy. It seems strange that they would now try to expand whilst other larger operators are failing elsewhere in light of high costs etc...

I beleive things are back to normal today 3 left out of Plymouth this morning.SHH are very shrewd operators and the management at ASW dont seem todo things without giving it a great deal of thought and time .So thats why I beleive they are here to stay.

Chambery flights moved to Grenoble
I see ASW have moved their Winter ski flights from Chambery to Grenoble airport (before the first flight has even got off the ground!) citing "a request from the local airport authority!"
I have used both of these airports previously for transfers to resorts in the Alps and would suggest this switch is a somewhat backward step from ASW.
And would Annecy not have been a better bet, assuming the reasons for leaving Chambery are valid?

I'd say it's a better decision than Chambery. Performance wise the Dash 8 300 is limited at Chambery and when combined with poor weather etc. I think it would have been a route with very poor punctuality, resulting in bad publicity. I've heard that Grenoble is a far more viable "commercial" operation.
It's still far better than driving to the likes of Gatwick.

chrism - all the ex bacon DH3's have gone from EXT as far as I know. ASW crew's were flight testing them back along for other operators at Flybe's request.
Sigh of relief with Grenoble - nice long runway and no mountains or the risk of stopping off en-route for fuel!
Chambery is a nightmare during the winter - ramp congestion/poor handling/slot delays and late resort coaches so not worth the agro!

Chambery is a nigthmare!quoted
Dash7 lover, Chambery is a nice and slick airport 6days out of 7, D6 is congested due to the high demand for this small regional airport on D6!!!!
Airport transfer to the major ski resort is at least 1h30 less than Lyon or Grenoble not bad when you travelling with the kids and the lady....Just need to get the right aircraft to make sure you get the best performence ...like the B757-200,

That's why I wondered if Annecy might've been a better bet for ASW having dropped Chambery.
I know, given a choice of Exeter/Bristol-Chambery or Plymouth-Grenoble for ski flights, which I would choose.......

Not sure what the reason was for switching from Chambery to Grenoble, but based on my experience purely from a passenger viewpoint it makes sense.
Chambery is fine on paper, but does get a bit messy on Saturdays during the ski season especially if the weather is poor when delays can really mount up. Grenoble seems to be less affected by weather issues, and depending on which ski area you're going to is either a bit closer or a bit further away, but no big deal either way.
The advantages of a departure from a local (smaller) airport like Plymouth/Newquay are the key thing in terms of reducing hassle, particularly when travelling with kids in tow. Already booked my flights!

Guess it might have something to do with there's not enough ramp space available at Chambrey at the times they want to operate. Having operated there during last winter it gets pretty crowded there on the ground.
