Not Air Southwest as such, but a lovely slice of South West aviation history has been published here:

It is indeed a very nice article, thanks for the link. Not quite accurate though since Westward Airways were of course operating out of Newquay to London well before Brymon and I know there were others before that but sorry I cannot remember exactly who ... senior moments!!

ASW announced today that they are adding a 1635 PLH-BRS-LBA link from next week. This will be possible by removing BRS from the JER-PLH link and cutting BRS-MAN back to 2 flights a day during the week. The 5th weekday PLH/NQY- LGW link will now only operate on Fridays instead of Monday and Friday.

Any chance of Belfast being in their plans in the future from either Plymouth or Bristol?

True but Flybes' BHD - NQY is summer only. BHD could support a BRS link all year round. Flybe ditched theirs a while back but if not BRS then Plymouth would be good.

Personally i think that WOW could easily handle a daily NQY-BHD/BFS(either or) with or without a stop at Plymouth but i would guess BRS would be a better stop for that one.

Jim Cameron, Air Southwest

Very sad news. Jim was really nice guy, and a true professional:

Tributes paid to Air Southwest CEO

Tributes have been paid to Jim Cameron, chief executive of Air Southwest, who died in hospital in Glasgow on Saturday (August 23) after a period of illness.

Jim leaves a wife, Jane, a daughter and two sons.

Jim joined Plymouth-based Air Southwest in April 2007 from former BA franchise Loganair, where he had been managing director for five years. He was no stranger to Plymouth having been commercial manager for Brymon Airways in the late 1990s during a career with BA which spanned 30 years.

Nigel Godefroy, chief executive of the Sutton Harbour Group, which owns and operates Air Southwest, said: “I only knew Jim for the time he worked with us but found him to be a man of utmost integrity and honour, which is rare these days.

“He was a lovely person who led the airline in a calm, unassuming and considered way. I know Jim thoroughly enjoyed the job, the company and in particular the people he worked with. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts and best wishes are with his family at this difficult time.”

This is very sad news.

Whenever i have met Jim, he always came across as a lovely bloke - totally genuine and always friendly to everyone he met. He will be very much missed. Condolences to his family.
RIP

A real shock. I knew Jim from his days at BEA Airtours back in the late 60's, a real gentleman and always a pleasure to do business with. A sad loss to the industry my thoughts are with his family and colleagues.

I lost my Grandfather recently and it is one of the hardest feelings in the world. HI sfamily should be proud of his achievements he has made and his dedication to the South West region in his final years.

His family are going through the worst possible time and they should be proud of what their husband/father/grandfather had achieved over the years.

Sad News

Very sad to hear about Jim's death at just 61.
He was my boss for a while at Brymon and was also helpful to me when he was at Loganair.
Had not seen him since his 'return' to ASW and I had no idea he was ill.
Not many like him in the airline business, he was a real gent.

Very Sad News about Jim, A true Gent through and through. he will be sorely missed.
I knew him when i was at Brymon - He was the only person i knew that went to the trouble to learn everyones name and remember them and he would personally great you every time you met him and ask you how you were doing.

If anybody knows his funeral deatils i would be grateful to know so as to pass my final respects to a true gent.

Seems that ASW are making good progress at Plymouth. According to local rag, passenger numbers up by 30+ percent as a result of new ASW flights to Glasgow, Newcastle, Cork, Dublin. Also rather nice new Exec Lounge at PLH for business pax.
I notice a couple of the winter ski flights to Grenoble are also showing as fully booked, which is good going!

IAMdLaws - i think you will find that you are in a minority with regards to your opinion on ASW. I take it you caught them on a bad day.

Sector times

IamDLaws

Slightly over exagerated me thinks. With one flight a day to NCL it wouldn't take much to hit the on-time performance! The PLH-NQY-NCL flight is the first flight of the day for one aircraft and our arrival time is pretty spot on 99% of the time. If NQY is foggy first thing we either overfly and carry on to NCL (very rare) or sit on the ground and road pax from NQY-PLH and go to NCL direct. Our aim is to carry everyone rather that offer them refunds or coach all the way from the west country! Customer first and all that! The only issue is the arrival back into PLH. Yeah we leave on time but the sector time isn't quite long enough and is being addressed for the winter season. It's been about 10mins out arriving on most days even when we leave NCL on schedule.

Cheers

IamDLaws in reference to your comment,

Well, maybe not a bad as FlyJet but....
shall we not let sleeping dogs lie? I could think of a few more airlines that have had just as bad or worse records than Flyjet!!

Now back to ASW.....

It may not be NCL but you can hardly say it's a crap service when they're the most punctual airline in the UK's second busiest airport!
