Does anyone have a view on the commercial potential of a route linking NQY and a city in Brittany, either Brest and/or /Lorient, Rennes, Nantes?

Maybe it would have to be seasonal, but there's certainly a lot of cultural and other exchanges between Cornish towns and their Breton counterparts. I guess most of this traffic uses the Plymouth-Roscoff ferry at present. Plenty of scope for weekend breaks and shopping trips too.

If the timings were right, the route(s) could also pick up transfer traffic from ORK to NQY. Or do Aer Arann already operate Cork-Brittany direct?

Just a thought.

Aer Arann operate Cork-Lorient and Cork-Nantes (Not technically in Brittany I suppose) as summer-only services.

Considering the population of Cornwall, the historical links with Brittany and the shortness of the flight, I see no reason why it couldn't work as a seasonal route.

oh oh pick me pick me

Normally these kind of things are pretty easy to answer - anywhere there is a ferry service, an air service normally works nicely alongside it. You will always have people who hate boats/planes and want the other way to travel

New branding for WOW?

Did anyone notice on the latest airsouthwest news(junk)letter that there's a new logo on it? Do people reckon this is just for online presence or a whole new branding across their business?

The reason ferry travel works to these regions is for two main types of traveller, and both involve thier cars:
1 - Booze cruisers looking to stock up on cheap wine to load thier car up with.
2 - Part-time property owners. People who live in France for a few months of the year will have alot of home goods to take or thier pets with them and like to have thier own car.

Therefore I would say it would be a stupid business move to base planned flight routes on this therory. Flybe announced a SOU to Cherbourg route a couple of years back. I dont think it even flew once (I may be wrong!).
The Northern France region would attract a small amount of commuters/business traffic and maybe the odd home owner looking for a quick trip over but i doubt you would see full loads.

was on a WOW flight yesterday into NQY. the single cabin crew was telling the guy sat next to me that the aircraft being used and crew was the BRS based aircraft that was normally used for charter flights but yesterday was covering for another aircraft/crew for some reason.

she also implied that there should well be more routes & expansion of the fleet in the very near future, prior to the start of the summer 08 schedule

just spotted this on the bbc news website:

Cardiff players in mid-air scare

A plane carrying the Cardiff City football team was diverted to Manchester Airport after developing technical problems.
The Air Southwest aircraft was travelling to Humberside Airport, ahead of the side's game against Hull City, when it suffered instrument failure.
An airport spokesman said a fire crew was put on alert but the plane landed safely on Friday afternoon. The Championship team is now travelling to Humberside by coach. The clash with Hull City is scheduled to kick-off at the KC Stadium on Saturday at 1500 GMT.
anyone have any more info ?

Cornishsimon Sutton Harbour Holdings ASWs parent company have already said previously and not so long ago infact that money is available for ASW to purchase more aircraft for their major expansion program. So dont be surprised if there are more added to the ones already announced especially as they have also agreed with Plymouth City Council to start the runway and infrastructure improvements at Plymouth.

You are kidding, right?

Air Southwest fly aircraft held together by MEL stickers! Believe me, there is no more cautious a company than Sutton Harbour when it comes to spending money on anything which isnt a property investment!

Air Southwest is highly unlikely to buy any new planes in the forseeable future....How many BACON Dash8s were sat in EXT a few months ago?? Did ASW buy one or lease one??

well i too have heard local rumours that SHH have stated that money is available for investment in aircraft for WOW.

i cant in all honesty see how they would be able to operate the current planned summer08 schedule for 5 a/c, especially considering that the Glasgow and Newcastle flights are fairly long ones on DH-8's and that they are operating with stops at PLH & NQY.

anyone think that the schedule can be managed with 5 a/c ?

I'm sure it can
Although it would be nice to see their fleet expanded

But from the schedules published on the website there will be a glasgow and back in the morning(or evening) and a Newcastle and back in the evening (or vice versa)

They can run those extra flights purely with the aircraft currently in bristol for charters

There have been two Dash's sat around the hangar at Plymouth weekdays for a couple of weeks so I also would suggest that ASW have made the announcements on what aircraft they have at present.Although they have stated that they are looking at even more routes to expand into in the not to distant future.

ASW Expansion

I heard a rumour that ASW were going to Manston with 2x DH8 next year to run Dublin and Amsterdam. Any truth? Would be good news for them.

does anyone know if this is likely to happen ?
would be good to see wow expand, also notice no slots comments regarding Dublin and Amsterdam in 08, its the sort of thing that wow could do very well at, just look at what they have managed at NQY, after all when they took on the original BA, LGW-NQY-PLH this was the only route basically for NQY and now look at the routes they offer from NQY, they seem to do well on routes from local airports!
