I have looked at the performance figures for LDY and they are quite restrictive. Runway 26 dry is OK but if it's wet, or using runway 08 it could well require a tech stop to pick up fuel on the way. This is allowing for the new runway length. That is unless there is less than 150 pax on board. this is based on all pax being adult, so if there are lots of children it does help. You can't bank on this, so for planning purposes you have to work on adult figures, so I am surprised they are prepared to offer it as there will definately be tech stops on some of them. Maybe overall it's stil worth the extra cost and hassel.

Excellent news for Derry and the North West. Hopefully with the right marketing this could be a great success, especially if kept on for winter sun. Think advertising is key to avoid what happened to Balkan Holidays and pulling their summer program. With FR already well known in the NW they already have that advantage.
For example, Tenerife had a passenger pool of 57K in 2009, Malaga had a pool of 166K. The logical conclusion all things being equal is that if the route with lower demand can be made work then a route with higher demand should work.
The only thing I would say in response to that, is while there is a huge choice of destinations from BFS, LDY is oviously much lower, and may affect passenger choice. For example, for convenience and ease, someone from Derry may holiday in Tenerife, but not out of a want to visit Tenerife, just because it's handy to fly from LDY. Had Lanzarote or Ibiza etc been launched, those same people may have booked these destinations instead.

As BFS has a pretty full range of destinations, customers can select the destination first and then decide how to get there, what day / airline etc, but if you want to fly from LDY, it would be more of "where can I go direct from Derry?", and then pick the available destinations. This may therefore skew possible demand figures from LDY, basing those on the success of ALC and FAO.

On the whole though excellent news. Fingers crossed for a regional operator to increase services to the mainland, BE would seem to be an excellent fit.

Another surprise Do you know if this is about an existing route, or a new route. And if it's a new one... whether it's domestic or a sun route. Although I'm very happy bout these new sun routes... I still feel that RYR left it a bit late for them to achieve their full potential!

A lot of the fares outbound from LDY-TFS already have "only 1 (or) 2 seats remaining at this fare" does this mean a high number of bookings on its first day?

not necessarily, could be the first block of seats sold and now moving on to the next price range for the next block, followed by the next block and so on until full, even flights to LPL can cost £160 for the last few seats

Yeah but surely a block contains about 40 seats? Either way it still is brilliant that it says that on some dates a few hours after its gone on sale

Oh yeah the fact that some fares have jumped to £49.99 already for some dates shows flights are selling on the first day which is great, each airline has different sized blocks of seats, its got good publicity on the BBC news site and no doubt local media too, they will sell well, i wouldn't worry.

Great news about TFS. Can you tease us with a little more info about next weeks announcement Stewart? Pretty please.

On a side note I came across this article which also has pictures of the new arrivals hall, other extensions and the new apron if anyone hasn't seen them yet. Looking good!
