John Kelpie the Derry and Strabane Council CEO was on Foyle this morning defending the rate rise for this year.
Of course the aiport came up and he said they hope to be able to announce the new London operator in 'the next few weeks'.
The last STN flight out is 6 weeks this coming Saturday, March 25th, so it's looking increasingly unlikely that a new operator will be in place starting the day after on March 26th as the council have been aiming for.

If the council can't get a PSO carrier to London and (as has been strongly hinted by MOL) Ryanair also close the Glasgow and Liverpool routes, then the airport should close
Plenty of twitter traffic today with people asking CoDA what is going on. Their response is that if you want more details regarding the PSO and current progress to direct message them on twitter. If anyone's that interested, that appears to be the way to do it (if anyone does DM them can you explain the difference between apologies and apologises? Great, cheers).
On a more serious note, Julian O'Neil, BBC business correspondent tweeted in late December that he'd heard FlyBe and Loganair had applied to operate the PSO. We shall see soon enough.
Edit: in fact, this what they're saying: Please private mail your email address and I will provide CoDA's comprehensive update and add you to database for comms

My source from the airport has confirmed to me this evening that there is indeed an airline in place to take over the London route. They have no other specific information except that the staff are being briefed further on Friday evening. Things are very tight lipped internally at the airport seemingly.
So, unless anything else leaks out beforehand, I should have a little more insight by the end of the week.
On a side note LDY is selectable on the British Airways website. Was this always the case?

LDY has been on the BA booking engine for an age now, since Loganair did LDY DUB on PSO.
I've just has a mad thought, is Jet2 a crazy idea in relation to operating the STN LDY route now that they are based at the Essex Airport? Outside of that it can only be Flybe (Stobart) or Loganair. EasyJet can serve a small island community like IOM from LTN and LGW, would they did their toe in the airport with a route to STN, might be attractive without FR on the route...
