DERRY/LONDONDERRY
Anyone have any idea what's going on with last night's and today's BMIR services? Delayed by a couple of hours getting back to LDY which I put down to LON ATC, but I see this morning's 7.40 departure is delayed to 1300. Tech? Crew?
I ask as I'm using them for the first time shortly to attend a meeting in London, which, if this happens again, I'll be very, very late for.

Capacity
Interesting that there is only a total of one unsold seat on the two services out of Derry tomorrow (Sunday). There is a real capacity/price issue here. Who ever thought that a niche operator like this could cope with a once high-volume service? (but of note that someone - several possibly - is able to pay an extortionate £243.50 for each of the final few seats). Also, there are only £243.50 seats left on the first Monday service.

A Chalair Airlines ATR42 has just landed at LDY - Reg F-GVZJ. I assume this has been hired in by BMIR to do the STN route?
The big selling point when the route was launched was operated by a all jet fleet. Will the ATR also add considerable time onto the sector?

'Making money' and 'PSO-supported service' are odd bedfellows. Either a route is self-sustaining, in which case the airline can enjoy gouging the passengers until competition shows-up, or it's not and needs subsidised to keep going. Gouging *and* pocketing the subsidy just looks naughty.
Anyway, flight-time has now been stretched from 1 hr to 1hr 25 with the use of the ATR.

Why would an airline operate any route if it wasn't to make money?

What price for the last seats would constitute non-gouging in your eyes?
£100? £150? BA is pretty much sold out tomorrow into LHR and charging up to £294...EI are charging £394 on the only flight of theirs with seats left.

I see the People's ViennaLine E170 is currently on it's way back to LDY from St. Gallen.

Best make the most of it El Bunto....delivery flight from HOP! to ABZ was made this afternoon...couple of days of tyre-kicking and tarting up and the aircraft will be in service by Monday at the latest apparently
Another significant delay to this morning's outbound Stansted. Two hours, which means arriving into central London after 10. As much as I want to support my local airport, the shambles that is BMIR and their first three weeks on this route will end up putting a lot of people off. At least they're cheap.......er.....

LDY-STN Pax Numbers
CAA May stats are out - during their first month of operations, BMI Regional carried 3,809 passengers on LDY-STN. That equates to 34 passengers per flight, or a 69.4% load factor. For anyone that's interested, Ryanair carried 9,431 on the route in May 2016, so that's a 60% decrease in passenger numbers.

Poor load factor. It will be hard to attract other carriers with those type of numbers. Cant help but think AerLingus regional and flybe are the ideal carrier for the airport. Hopefully if the Irish Government do their bit and start a PSO to dublin with AerLingus we could see furthern flights to Britain
