There are instances of 250 hour foreign pilots getting jobs lately. Perseverance is the key. Jobs will still go to local pilots but there is not a plethora of those so real world economics wins out in the end. Feel free to pm me with.any queries.

I'm always wondering what kind of situational awereness they teach to kids nowadays. Buddy, use google, facebook, whatever. Zillions of guys flying on the continent have blogs, there are facebook groups that help low time wannabees. Not to mention the endless fields filled with Q&A here on prune.

Good old Bollywood rushes in and plays some music by Pritam Chakraborty. Flap your arms around and all the girls rush into your arms with their engines racing and propellers turning? Perhaps even some of them have their after burners on?
Now the Maharajah of Bikaneer in 1929 was a clever chap when it came to the sporting sher shikar. Always sent his scouts out first and knew where the clever old Shere Kahn was laid up all hungry and waiting for some poor little Mowgli to wander past like a stuffed chapati.
That is why he flew around in Rollsie Roycies, shot with a .577 nitro express and looked on the world from a gilded houdah.
Knew too where the old tiger was lurking long before the evening chorus and respected the information of any Dalit who knew where not to put the foot in the haathi tatti.

@ CVS. The headaches are no better or worse than what they have been in the past 10yrs.
In fact, at least guys are only spending time on 1 waiver as opposed to the 3 or 4 they used to a few years back.
Only difference now is that you are slightly more likely to get your permits rejected. And only if you work for a certain few companies.

Humanitarian Flying
Hey guys, I was am trying to find out some information about some humanitarian flying jobs in Africa. I was told Air Serv is one of the better ones to try out for.
I am currently a young CPL pilot with around 230TT with 80pic with around 50 of that pic done in a PA44/34 (not sure if that will be enough.) all other hours is a mix of 172,182 and PA28R time.

With a Hallelujah (not the Leonard Cohen one though) and a little Jesus Christ (not to be confused with Buys Ballot, who was a Dutchman) you might just be able to get a foothold on the cross of life with Mission Aviation Fellowship, MAF for short or Mighty Awesome Folks as we like to call them down here in the heat.

Now can you see the opportunities available to help feed head hunters remaining in Papua, New Guinea or the possibilities of other work requiring devotion and self sacrifice. The company only recruits experienced pilots but since the experience level for an experienced pilot is set at a measly and meagre 1,000 hours, faith must play a part in the recruitment and survival process. Indeed, you possibly need to be a little of a proselytizer with certain fundamentals of faith to spiritually sustain you in order to succeed. Still, if you can convince them of the sincerity of your divine beliefs, perhaps they'll find a place for you, humble as your past experiences might be, in their chariots of mercy that wing on a prayer through the skies.

What about french Africa?
hi,
In this forum we always talk about english african places, but there's pretty nothing about french africa, however most of africa is french and my first language is french so i'm wondering if there's any possibility for me down there?
The fact is that there's a lot of english developped countries with pools of pilots who are looking for jobs but except France there's nothing more so I guess I have more chances to find a position on the french side of Africa.
I plan to go in many countries as possible from Mauritania to Madagascar, spend 2-3 days in every country visiting the operators (I have a good budget).
There is countries who require JAA licence (I'll avoid them with my canadian licence)?
So, any information is welcome. I have a fresh CPL, Multi/IR

1) You need much longer than 2-3 days in each country. Africa moves very slowly.
2) Most of Africa is NOT french. I suggest you do a little more research on that part.
3) Doesn't matter what licence you hold, you will need to convert it to the local licence. So as long as it is a ICAO licence, you will be fine.
4) Why are you leaving Canada right now? There is a huge hiring boom happening there....

Bringing Bibles into food programmes, imho, amounts to cultural vandalism on an almost criminal level. This sort of deliberate and permeditated destruction of age-old cultures is only different from ethnic cleansing in that the destruction of those cultures is by indirect as opposed to physical means. It is likely to be just as effective.
By all means get an honest humanitarian flying job, but leave brainwashing ignorant heathens out of it lest you be mistaken for one yourself.

French Africa
i'm planning a trip to africa (visit many countries as possible) and i'm wondering if there's any possibility to find a pilot job on the French side of Africa (I speak perfectly french)?
Which countries to avoid?
I have a canadian CPL so I'll try to stay away from countries who require a JAA licence

Why don't you drift in to a couple of the consulates or embassies of some of these countries nearest to where you are in Canada? Perhaps you will be able, using your savoir faire and sang froid, to determine their enthusiasm for French speaking Canadians who might need work permits or extended visas? It is after all, the government side of things, which tends to make life difficult for ex patriates trying to find flying jobs in other countries. Also perhaps you could contact these people who might feel able to give you some advice, especially if you can speak with one of their pilots who has experience in those parts of Africa of which you speak.

Limiting yourself to the french side only is a stupid move. As long as you have ICAO lvl 4 English then you are fine. Or are you going to limit yourself to french speaking countries for the rest of your life?
And again I ask, why are you leaving Canada? There is tons of jobs there at the moment with all the Captains from 703/704 ops being taken into Westjet and Air Canada.

Africa is a plan B for me. Plan A is to find a job in Canada (yes a PILOT job). I better like to go in Africa, fly there 2-3 years than work as a rampie in Canada for the same amount of time. I didn't try to find a job yet because i'm finishing a university degree right now, I'll be looking in late may after I pass my IR flight test. I'm considering all options so that's why i'm asking a question on this forum.
English side of Africa is not an option, too many guys from countries with a big pool of pilots (USA, UK, N-Z, Australia) hanging around there. My idea is that on the french side there's not many pilots looking for a position because you have only France as a pool of french speaking people. I don't think that if the operator where I go have a lack of pilots it will be difficult for them to obtain the papers.
