I have watched this thread with great interest, and, at times, commented with either frustration or downright anger at what appears to be blatant abuse or exploitation of fellow pilots.

I have read the comments from Starbear and Captainkingkong and really enjoyed the arguments presented. As an applicant, and someone who has done some research, I have spoken to the pilot recruiters on the phone. They do indeed keep bringing up the 25K 70% question. As I previously posted I said no to both questions but qualified both answers with "I'd be willing to discuss alternatives" and subsequently received an assessment date. (Not yet attended)

I am an experienced TP training captain, not a cadet. It occurs to me that they are asking these questions as a filtering process, but not as many on here believe: to find pilots willing to sell there soul for a job, but to find adaptable people, willing to think outside the box or enter discussion / debate on a way forward that makes both business sense and is achievable for the candidate. I qualify this, as I said I have researched this, from information received from those with job offers that the "deal" is infact nowhere near the 25K quoted by JET2 themselves. NOWHERE near......

I think it is important to remember that this is a business, and Jet2 is certainly not to blaim for the current pay to fly market, Easyjet and Ryanair have long been exploiting those with more money than us mere mortals.

Just six months ago, I believed it would be virtually impossible to progress as has been traditional - from turboprop to medium jet to heavy etc - because of the sudden availability of cheap cadets willing to buy their first 2000hrs. However, in Jet2's defense, they are the first company to target the experienced unrated workforce out there during these diffiicult economic times.

I guess my point is for those currently working at Jet2, who have recently posted their disapproval of this process, that maybe all is not as it seems here on pprune, and that infact they are looking for pilots with a little more calibre than you give them credit for.

Keeping costs down is definately a business stategy, but I do believe these questions have screened a certain type of individual out of the recruitment process.

Of course I could be completely wrong........

Only one comment about the assessment day - get stuck in as it is a monster taking no prisoners.
It is really tough with pressure to the max. The interview was with 3 people - one excellent at the bad cop routine, the other cuts into you answers, to almost breaking point.
Be afraid.....very afraid!

I admire your optimism.
I know of someone who was invited to interview in the same exactly the same situation as yourself. Expecting some negotiation, he was taken aback when told the offer is ONLY pay for TR and 70% contract. Take it or leave it. End of interview.
Please tell us the outcome of your assessment when it happens. If anyone else has been offered anything else please tell.

As an aside - my 'interviewer' let slip "we are having trouble filling interview slots... erm... I mean... erm... because we have so many applicants (????)"

When they run out of chimps to interview are they going to start at the top of the pile again? Will I get an Un-Rejection Email

PAPI 74 - very helpful advice... If they really want my money it should be me interviewing them......

I will be happy to share any deal on offer next week, and indeed, if what is said is true, 'struggling to fill slots', then I hope it will be better than the 12k quoted at this weeks assessments or 'open days'.

£12k?

Where did this £12k figure come from? Have heard about 70% contract guuys being asked to pay 70% of the TR costs but that comes in around the £15k mark. Does it include VAT or are Jet2 trying to get a few more takers?

From the info I have been given - £20k-£25k for type rating (737v757?).
You pay for food and accommodation during training.
You start getting paid when line training is complete.

Just what I've heard.

Good luck everybody!

At least you got an assessment. I've heard nothing since putting my application in a month or so ago.

I gather they're VERY busy sifting through applications but it's getting rather frustrating.

Best of luck to those waiting to hear following an assessment. Out of curiousity, is there anyone else who's applied and heard nothing???

2W2R,

Did you get the email back confirming your application? Many peoples applications disappeared into cyber space, never to be seen again. Its worth giving them a ring to check they have got it.

Regards

Some of last year's type rated drivers submitted their applications in October/November but were not invited to interview until January.

The best is to make sure you have your e-mail confirmation from HR that your application is in the system.

One other suggestion, that may show your interest, is to access your application every couple of weeks and update flying hours or failing that any other element even if you change it back again.

This has the effect that the computer registers the date and time of the "update" by you and will probably be noticed by the HR person and shows you are still interested.......and waiting for their response....

Good luck to all applicants....

binsleepin....

Cheers for the reply.

Yes had an email confirming receipt and have since followed up with an email and phone call. They just said that if I've got a confirmation email then they have it. But it seems strange to have heard nothing by now??? I'm trying not to be impatient but its difficult!!!

Well just updated my application and attached an up to date CV.

I'm not rated so not holding out much hope having not heard a thing by now and lots of interviews, telephone and assessments, have taken place.

Hopefully I'll hear something soon.

Cheers

2W2R - I'm in the same boat and, like you, haven't heard anything yet - so it may not be all bad!

To be or not to be ~ a J.2 driver

They were planning to interview some 40 last Thursday in Leeds.

Outcome likely to be known by 22 October.

The interesting question is how many type rated guys will jump ship to risk the 70% contract offer?

Even though all those who joined for S.10 only, have now been offered full time contracts, the outfall from the HMG spending review to be announced this week is the big unknown for everybody. Past performance is no guarantee of future success to modify a quote in financial circles. There can be no certainty that a full time offer will follow in due course. So, by definition, it is a risk if you are already in full time employment. You might be working in a sandpit, or worse, earning reasonable money but missing home. This, with other factors all come into play.
Basic economics of supply and demand will, in the end, determine whether the 70% deal will be enough to tempt guys on board.

For now a waiting game...............

My understanding is that the last of the assessment days are being held today. Tomorrow they will sit down and review all the interviewed applicants, then on Thurs/Fri make the phone calls for those who are successful and emails to the PFO's.
That is at least what I was told at my assessment last week.

For those who are TR, the starts dates are not going to be until february through to May. Therefore assuming you are offered the position. How will jet2 keep you until then without many successful candidates going for better offers with other airlines as their recruitment gets going over the winter. Surely they will not get you to sign the dotted line for the £4500 2 year bond next week?

Any ideas
