Don't know the specifics but they certainly are training new entrant Cabin Crew at a heck of a rate at the moment- Cranebank is overrun at the moment with new hire cabin Crew, most of whom seem destined for LGW.

Wether the reason for this is "Project Columbus", or a desire to only employ Cabin crew on short term contracts, or a high attrition rate, or a combination of all three I do not know. My underlying point is that a rumoured (or real) increase in Cabin Crew recruitment does not necessarily mean an increase in Flight Crew recruitment. As "wobble" has said those in the Flight Crew hold pool will probably have to keep treading water for quite a while.

If it's the role of CC you want to apply for then BA Recruitment is the link.

As far as I am aware there is NO F/D recruitment and so therefore would like to encourage people to bring this thread back on track.

As I see it this thread relates to:

1) F/D Recruitment process
2) Hints n tips for the various tests, interview and sim ride
3) Personal experiences of tricky questions etc etc.

As there is NOOOOOOOOO Recruitment I would therefore imagine this thread to go quiet. I don't thnk this is a thread to discuss:

1) Swimming in the hold pool (you have passed the recruitment process )
2) As and when recruitent reopens - Practice sim rides (Suggest you set up a new thread specific to it)

Sorry for the rant chaps n chapesses, but I would really like to see his thread return to normality and to the useful thread it used to be! Getting an email every day to say that someone has replied and then you click on the link to discover that it is useless information is becoming somewhat annoying!

Good luck to everyone (those in the hold pool inc) who is hoping to join BA in the future.

Getting an email every day to say that someone has replied and then you click on the link to discover that it is useless information is becoming somewhat annoying!
Could I suggest that you unsubscribe to the thread then? As you rightly summise, there is no recruitment at present, therefore highly unlikely to be any new top tips for getting through the interview.

What it is doing is providing the odd snippet of information from within to those waiting with bated breath. Is that a bad thing?

You better take a deep breath then since it is clear that there is going to be very very little if any external recruitment for most of 2009.

Any holdpool news?

Just wondering if anybody has information on what is likely to happen to the DEPs and SSPs waiting in the holdpool? Has gone very quiet since the last email from John Monks.

October Recruitment

Company email from a senior manager sent to all BA pilots:

Due to growth in our Summer 2011 flying programme, we anticipate a need to recruit pilots to ensure we have the correct pilot establishment to fly the programme.

A business case has been submitted and we have received approval to recruit 80 pilots in the financial year 2011 to 2012. Once more detail emerges about the planned flying programme for Winter 2011 a further review will take place, which may result in the need to submit a further business case for additional pilot recruitment.

Our campaign to recruit 80 pilots for next summer will open on 1 October 2010 and will initially be for pilots with a current type rating and at least 500 hours flying on the A320, B757/767 or B737. If and when we gain approval to recruit pilots beyond the initial 80 for Summer 2011, we may at some point widen the campaign to include SSPs and DEPs without a type rating on an aircraft type that we operate.

When we closed the last recruitment campaign in 2008 there were 118 pilots in our “hold pool”, made up of a combination of DEPs and SSPs. We have written to all 118 to advise them of the current situation and what options are available to them individually.

DEP to start up again

Just received this email below from BA:

"We will be opening a campaign for pilot recruitment at British Airways on 1 Oct 2010. Our initial requirement is for pilots with a current type rating on either the Airbus A320 series or Boeing 737/757/767 aircraft, with an ATPL(F) and a minimum of 500 hours recent experience on type.

If you meet these requirements and would like to apply, we would welcome your application via www.ba.com/careers"

Hello,

Probably discussed before but, does anyone know if BA would accept a Full JAA ATPL licence issued by one of the EU CAAs? Say France, Spain, Germany...

I imagine transferring it to the UK CAA once successful through assessment should be a smooth and easy process.

I am not being prejudiced or xenophobic here, however I would hope that BA will show preference to British pilots. After all it appears that every other national carrier adopts that very policy. No offence directed at your query Rock&Go, however a UK national has about a snowflakes chance in hell of ever getting into the likes of KLM, Air France, Iberia or Lufthansa.

I am only too aware. I hold a JAR licence issued by an authority that doesn't match my nationality. I made a daft assumption from Rock&Gos query.

I don't have nationalistic views. I most definitely worded my response in poor context which may have led to edymonster making his or her comment. If BA are happy to hire an array of nationalities, then fair enough - we live within the EU and the EU promotes market choice. I simply wish that the other EU "majors" would adopt a similar hiring policy. However I don't ever see it happening. This possibly influenced my post; not that I have a personality resembling Alf Garnet's

I'm non British and I can understand your frustration. I haven't looked into any details but I'm pretty convinced that KLM/Air France, Lufthansa etc is open for anyone, including British citizen, with the note that you have to speak their native language to pass the selection. The same applies to BA but "unfortunately" you happen to speak the "world language number 1". Most non native English speakers has put down a tremendous effort to get the standard up to an acceptable speaking level and you are more than welcome to get the German, French, Spanish etc up to an acceptable standard. I don't think Lufthansa would turn you down if you passed their DLR test and spoke fluent German.

It would be a change in direction if they did, and probably illegal as well Certainly of the last recruitment, now typically Airbus (S)FOs, there is a good proportion of Europeans. The proportion is more likely based on where qualifed applicants come from:
  1. LoCos - EJ/FR for DEP
  2. Oxford for SSP
than any "policy" by BA.

BA has policy after policy, publication / events / training to excess IMHO about diversity, equality and all sorts of other PC terms... Unlikely their recruitment will contradict this.

NOD, you seem to know what's going on with recruitment. I currently fly the 330 in the far east and am in the process of putting the aircraft on my JAA License, do you think this would cut the mustard or not in regards to the type rating requirement? Is there any way I can contact recruitment in order to pose this question?

Exezy... Afraid I know nothing of recruitment details... assessment above provided as a crude analysis of the unfortunates who have to fly with me

On the company BALPA website section, people asking questions e.g. for mates, are referred to pPrune, so you'll likely get best info here. Certainly any company eMails/communications get copied here very quickly.

On the face of it, no, it would not cut the mustard. I suspect an application on that basis would get put aside at the first sifting. I'm not an Airbus operator, but perhaps someone can answer this - are A320 and A330 ratings treated as one and the same? I realise that there are likely to be plenty of similarities in the operation of both types, but if they are treated by licensing authorities as separate ratings, then my comments above stand.

However ..... you may wish to ask yourself if BA will get all the applicants it wants, appropriately rated and experienced. Will there be enough of the right sort of person? If you think not, perhaps BA may have to spread it's net a little further and wider. In which case, a current A330 rating (it is a twin-engined Airbus, after all) may be something that BA will go back to re-examine.

You have to ask yourself - do I risk annoying the recruiters by submitting an application that doesn't meet the advertised requirements, or do I take a chance and proffer my services in the hope that BA can't get enough of the appropriately rated applicants that it wants? If I do the latter, and not get in this time, do I spoil my chances of applying again later, when BA recruits again?

Probably better to wait until you meet requirements as stated in the ad.

If I remember correctly from last time you have to wait 12 months between applications if you get rejected for whatever reason.

I would be surprised if they don't recruit again within the next couple of years, a lot of folk departing eastwards will soon drain the pool of type rated and suitable candidates and then the rest will get a chance.

From the evidence of the last recruitment round, they tend to be more interested in the candidate than the type rating. Unlike the rest for whom cheap is king.
