SIA cadet pilot thing
Hey all,
I am from Hong Kong and I have just been invited to a 1st round interview for cadet pilot training with SQ. Please could anyone be kind enough to explain to me how many stages there are to the whole recruitment process, how long the whole thing might take, and what is involved in each stage of the selection process (ie. what do I have to prepare for each stage)? Thank you so much for your help!
If there is anyone else in the same situation as me, please get in touch too and we can exchange info?

HI fellows in this forum.
I in doubt about the time frame will get call up for interview and the entry requirement.
I'll be finishing my diploma by next april and before proceeding to degree, i'm giving a shot for cadet pilot programme. I hope to get thru' the interview but it'll be tough.
My problem is i dont have a credit for pure science subject, but i have 5 credits. Anyone can share their experience with me about this?
Time frame get call for interview??
Thanks.....

Hi all,
I am currently age 23, had perviously applied for the post of cadet pilot twice, last year whereby i send in my hard copy application and this year during july, an online application. Till date, i had not had any respond from SIA.
As i did not meet the pre-requirement that SIA had set. I have 5 O level but i did not pass my english during my 1st attempt, during my 2nd attempt, i manage to attain a C6. I also do not have a pure science sub but only combine science.
Perviously, i am an airforce drop out during the air grading phase.
Currently i am a diploma holder from TP and currently studying in an engineering course in NTU. I will be graduating in half a years time.
I really hope to be a cadet pilot after my graduation but was advice by some friends of mine, my chances are very slim as i did not attain a pass in english during my 1st attempt. Some also told me that i actually did not meet the age requirement yet. I heard that once you are an airforce drop out, you could apply anytime after the age of 23.
Could anyone clarify my doubt and give me some advice?
Thanks so much!

Unfortunately,SIA only accept Singaporean, Singapore PRs or Malaysians in their cadet pilot scheme. It is stated very clearly in their employment web site.
You can try SQ cargo when you have a CPL and more hours on your log book.

On occasion, SIA has also taken in Indian and Hong Kong nationals as ab-initio pilots. There could be other nationals as well. Best to give SIA a call and ask them directly.

Dont worry, i have frens who got in like your situation. Pass english on the second attempt and no pure science. Wait till you are 25, then apply again. I am sure they will call you up. In the mean time, go get some flying experience from flying clubs. Looks better in your resume. Take care!
1) SIA requires 5 'O' levels including English, Mathematics and a Science subject taken in 1 seating.
2) Doesn't have to have a pure science subject. However, it must be of a certain combination. I believe that it's chemistry/physics or bio/physics. I don't think chem/bio will be accepted. I don't remember exactly so I may be wrong on that, but I think i might have said it in one of my threads here in the past so go have a look. But that certain combi requirement is definitely there. Also, you need at least a B3 for the combined science subject.
These things, among other requirements, were the minimum standard SIA requires when they still accepted applications through snail mail several months ago. Now everything's computerised. I don't know how exactly the system works now, but I don't believe the requirements would have changed, and it would certainly be harder for anyone who don't have these pre-requisites to slip through the cracks.

I'd hate to burst anyone's bubble, but while that might be in the past, this is no longer the case.

A simple question for you, hope you don't mind answering.
By saying that "Now everything's computerised." Does it mean they only accept and review resumes and profiles from the following online portal?
http://singaporeair.recruitmax.com/MAIN/
Or they will still accept resumes sent to the following email address:
[email protected]. I saw this email address in the carreer section of SQ website. However, I was not able to send resume to the following address as the mail bounced back with a delivery error message.

Karam, just wondering
1) When were you offered the interview?
2) When you say you don't have the English requirement, what do you mean? What do you actually have? Did you take English in another seating, or did you not pass English? Some details would be helpful to others applying.
3) Are you in SIA already?

Apologies for hijacking the thread. In the Singapore education system they've just introduced the path for students to bypass the 'O's and straight to the 'A's. So I suppose things could change in the future so keep your heads up.
I think they would like you to show competence in maths and physics. Heard that a degree that involves a lot of physics and maths does help a bit.

I've applied on 13th Dec 06. No news yet and am keeping fingers crossed. Wonder how long they will take to conduct the 1st interview upon application. Is there anybody who can advise? Thanks.
