O level result
Hello guys,
I've been doubt about the 'O' level result. I'm having all kinds of answer about the matter. One of my friend currently a SIA cadet telling me that, 'O' level is not that important, a degree is sufficent. By the way, SIA not weighting a lot on acedemy qualification, but personality, leadership, general knowledge and etc. I did badly for my 'O' level(SPM in Malaysia). Any suggestion for that? I have more than 5 credits, but not for my physic. I got B for my information system, does it consider as a science sub? From the website, stated degree with 5 credit in 'O' level.
Correct me if i'm wrong.....
Anyone could help me with this??
Thanks.

the O levels or equivalent is a must.
Science can be combined science, not necessary pure science as stated in the website.. It had been advertised in the papers before as a "science" subject and not specifically a "pure science".
it is correct to say they do not look into your results once you are called for interview.... else they wouldn't call u at all right?
quite a few guys without degrees got in too. but i would reckon the ratio to be 20% non grads to 80% grads.

clown889 is pretty much right about the ratio of grads to non-grads. The 'O' Level criteria that you guys have been talking about is not set by SIA. It's a requirement by CAAS for the issue of a CPL/ATPL. The following is an extract from the SASP2:
Go google for SASP2. Heaps of info there. Knightwhosays_NI's thread provides some good insight too.
To sum it up, having 5 passes for 'O' Level or equivalent is a requirement (by CAAS), and the pure science thingy is a preference (by SIA). There are no compromise about requirements set by CAAS, but preferences set by SIA is not hard and fast depending on the interviewer. People without pure science subjects have been selected in the past, but I've not heard of anyone without 5 passes at 'O' Level getting selected. Cheers.

Educational Standards
5. An applicant, whether ab initio or requiring an abridged course will not be accepted for training on an approved training course for the issue of a Commercial Pilot Licence course unless he hold a General Certificate of Education with passes in five subjects at ordinary level including English
Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
6. Applicants who possess other equivalent educational qualifications or foreign professional pilot’s licences should seek advice from the CAAS to determine whether their qualifications can be accepted for this purpose.

Hi guys...
Thanks for the replies. Anyway I messaged CAAS to ask about their criterias on the 5 'O' lvl credits thing. They replied to me saying that the criteria of 5 'O' lvls is set by SIA themselves.
Anyway.. don't think I would have much chances in entering the company now that being said. Is there anyone here that can tell me if there are other companies which does not need all 5? I've got only 3.
To thk917: All 5 'O' lvl credits as long as u have english, maths and science (preferably physics). Doesn't really matter what the other 2 subjects are i think.

Mike, I assumed that you are born in 1979 which also means that you are 27.
Go retake your O levels as a private candidate and try again. Retaking your O levels is not asking a few years of your time, only 1 year.
If you need what you do not have, go work for it. If you think you do not have the time, then forget about this career jump.

Any one has any idea how many 1st interviews can u not pass before SIA gives up on you? I had not made it through the 1st interviews I've attended, and the intervals have been >6 months before they considered me again, but could I have been waiting for nothing if SIA has taken out my name for considerations?
Question: Where can I pick up my PPL and how much would it cost? WHere can I attend private lessons to pick up flying?
Would appreciate any advice. Thank you

I have a more complicated question.
Failed first 1st interview
Passed second 1st interview
Passed tea-party
Went for medical
Told to be unsuccessful
Chance for reapplication?

It could have been easier in the past for some to slip thru, but it's more difficult now that the system's almost entirely computerised. There could be a few reasons why you're going for your 3rd interview. One that springs to mind is that maybe the previous system didn't record your previous attempt/s cuz of an administrative oversight.
But you know of pple who have made it thru after 5 interview attempts without any self-improvement? One of whom's a 2nd officer? Is he a white horse? Sorry if i seem a little dubious but this is something i have to see to believe. Can u PM me and reveal his name? If he's a second officer then I may know him. I'd understand if you can't of course, but this i really got to see for myself. Btw, where have you read on this site where a guy's got thru after 7 attempts? Not doubting you, just want to have a look at it myself.
Anyway, good luck on the interview.

I've only heard of 1 case of this FO who got rejected after medical, but who then upgraded himself and got a degree, before going through all the rounds again.
