With China WGS-84 compliant (per JEPPCO), however, with no co ordinates published in AIP-China, is it legal doing approaches and departures with GPS on?

Guess 'Wiggy' and 'Short Circuit' have reasons. I recall during and preceding the 1st Gulf War in the '90's it was standard procedure to keep the Radar 'on' to improve the radar signature.

Quite true, all Bull----.... instead try the QRH 'Flt with unreliable ASI' and check the N1 readout for that config/wt/conditions, thats more close to actual then all this boomerang...:ugh:

As far as I can 'see' and remember from the FCTM [B737-200 and B747 Classics] the technique stressed on by Boeing for a Jet is to have the 'TLA' [throttle lever angle] at zero '0' and the wheels...

Sig Wx charts Validity

As per WMO convention the validity for SigWx charts is 6-9 hrs.
UK Met office revised the validity considering the flight duration times for most users. So, if the vaild time is 1200z it is valid...

climb fuel efficiency

post #8/10 both can be referred to, diff. model nos will have diff affect on efficiency. In a large b744, with no restriction on speed after clean up saves 700kg at the min as per the perf manual.

In most I've come across, and the one I fly now, all what you said [std] plus min 10.5 if the destination /altn wx marginal or known for congestion eg Lhr.
I know of another major SE Asia operator...

There are a lot of explanations to this 'problem'... one of them being out of balance wheels / under inflation / new- old tyres. Happens even before gear retraction, esp on heavy weight t/o - higher...
