Whats that in the background?

MD-80? 717??

looking very forlorn

gerry111 18th May 2014 13:06

My guess is DC-9, Jas.

Looks like a bit of a graveyard behind the brand new Caravan.

Piano Man 18th May 2014 13:45

Certainly correct is a DC-9. Easily half a dozen ex Cebu Pacific DC-9s littered around the GA area as well as old 732s, Trislanders, DC-3s and amazingly a Connie! Will get some more photos in the coming weeks.

More pics?

LOL

To the right of the Caravan nose is a Yak 40 and a good old Aztec too. Looks like it's almost in Qantas colours. Now there is a seed for a new Qantas rumour.

AussieNick 22nd May 2014 19:00

Looks like an Embraer 170 nose?

BPA 22nd May 2014 22:17

Nothing like an Embraer 170. The cabin windows are the wrong size/shape and it doesn't have the front service door. It's a YAK.

mcgrath50 22nd May 2014 23:58

I think Aussie Nick is looking at the background to the right of the seaplane (Embraer) with the Yak(?) on the left hand side :ok:

Nope, that's a DC-9 on the left and yep it's a Yak on the right.

Come on boys and girls, I thought professional pilots could pick their aeroplanes! Back to spotters school!:ok:

Anyway, back to the pics!

mcgrath50 23rd May 2014 01:43

You're lucky I picked the one front and centre was a float plane!

Capt Fathom 23rd May 2014 03:11

I don't see any floatplane! But there's an Amphibian aircraft there!

Trent 972 23rd May 2014 03:42

Are you sure about that Capt F?
Float Plane
Look again, it's not that hard to Fathom.

Capt Fathom 23rd May 2014 12:28

I'm seeing wheels on them there floats!

Thanks for the link! .... Either type of seaplane may also have landing gear suitable for land, making the vehicle an amphibious aircraft.

I was attempting to educate the young-ins. I should have put a smilie on the end of my post!

PS. I'll go you halves!

jas24zzk 23rd May 2014 14:29

crikey Fathom...looks like you opened your BAK book!

Thats an interesting pic. Prototype perhaps? never seen a v-tail bitchcraft twin on the market.....any more info past your piccy ?

Frank Arouet 23rd May 2014 23:44

Sorry Buddy, I put them there hoping someone could add more photographic evidence or comment. There was a lot of manufacturers experimenting in those days, (look at the side windows for a year), and I'm guessing it is one such example. The "gun-Bo" seems genuine enough for the African Continent.

There is some more information on that aircraft here.

Getting ready for the afternoon departure. Great lighting at this time of day!

Jamair 24th May 2014 15:18

There was one at Oshkosh a few years ago, was called a V-Twin or a Vee-Twin

Oakape 24th May 2014 21:10

It would be interesting to know what Vmca is with the V tail.
