Bevan666 26th Apr 2014 08:41

Good ol' PCF. What a machine!

Looks a lot better than it did last time it visited Green Island :ok:

FullOppositeRudder 29th Apr 2014 23:59

Thanks for these pics - it's great to see a DHC2 in something other than AG work. :D

Sadly I haven't seen or heard one down here in the driest state for many years.

Only ever saw them in daylight ultralights. Didn't know they were lit as well. They make a rather impressive gatepost though, don't they, as well as the other sculptures there.

Could well have been, Power. Sounded great, quite low revs, like a 1-pot motorbike. Was doing (legal) horizontal wiffodils. :D

everything is incredibly green out there at the moment, 300 mm of rain fell in the region about 3 weeks ago. all the rivers flowing from the south west into the lake were flowing well

My profuse apologies, Jabba, I misread your text as meaning the only Staggerwing. You are quite right! :D

Wings over Illawarra 2104

Attended Wings over Illawarra today - questioned the effort on arrival with 30kt gusting to 50kt crosswinds, and more so once it was apparent nothing was going to be flying. Late in the afternoon a few of the jets including the hornets were able to get up, but nothing else dared move. Even when they did get up it was impressive watching the lighter jets including the sabre really having to crank in against the wind. The Sabre on return from its display took a really hard landing with a strong gust catching him just at touchdown:

There was significant smoke while it was braking and it took a long time to pull up. The hornets ended up taking off over it while it stayed sat at the end of the runway - not sure what the situation was.

Not sure of the full story, but the Connie was apparently sunk into a taxiway during a runup trial - was pointed out to me by some army cadet volunteers.

May Wings Over Illawarra still be going in 2104! ;)

SgtBundy 4th May 2014 13:13

Depends if HARS gears up to keep an F-35 running in 2045.

gerry111 4th May 2014 15:43

Perhaps 2045 may be the earliest target date for all the Australian F-35's to finally reach full operational capability?
