what feature has been left out ?

what did you delete ?

baswell 27th Nov 2011 23:06

what did you delete ?
We made a rather minor one so that we can disable and enable it remotely. To be honest, by the time (later this week) Apple approves the new version, our issue with the external data will have been resolved too...

QFF 30th Nov 2011 01:15

so is this really how the process works?

Yipee

Hi Guys what we have been waiting for has arrived, I just downloaded version 2.5. Quick, get to it. Unfortunately I have to go to work now without playing.

;) :D :ok:

baswell 1st Dec 2011 03:29

Yup, hot off the press! With the way the App Store works, some people may take a little longer before it shows the latest version.

OzRunways 2.5: Plan your Flight, Fly your Plan | OzRunways

And be sure to have a read of the manuals:

User Manuals | OzRunways

nomorecatering 1st Dec 2011 03:50

My wish list would include

SARTIME reminder.

Flight and duty time app that woould interface with DFT8 which seems to be the most common flight and duty time program.

A logbook..

Maybe even weight and ballance program and performance charts integreated into Oz runways.

A proper flight planner, similar to champaigne that would link into Naips.

I doubt there would be any softwere available where the developers are in such real time contact with the end users. Great to see.

baswell 1st Dec 2011 04:04

After this big delivery, we plan to go into a mode of more incremental releases, one thing at a time.

We still, first and foremost want to be a situational awareness tool in flight. So expect features like airspace warnings before we work on stuff like W&B and interfaces to duty times systems, etc. Just managing expectations here!

What we do want to do is better performance planning, especially for our friends flying jets. That means burn and TAS by flight level and the like.

With your ongoing support, there is no reason for us to ever stop improving OzRunways. In fact, we are getting ourselves organised to do much more development next year than we have done so far.

Interesting times ahead!

c173 1st Dec 2011 04:12

do we get another free month??:):):)

baswell 1st Dec 2011 04:26

do we get another free month??
You do, just in case you didn't get 2.0 because you were waiting on more, we reset it again.

Just don't expect a free month with every release when we go to (hopefully) monthly updates next year! :D

Jabawocky 1st Dec 2011 05:06

Good work lads! :ok:

The Beta test you said I was not finding any more bugs....well apart from a couple....you must have hidden the rest well.

You guys have done an outstanding job with this project.:ok::ok::ok:

Avgas172 1st Dec 2011 09:09

Hi Guys, Best to delete and reload or update?
cheers :ok:

Update or Wipe

Update if you want to keep any user waypoints.

Nivo 1st Dec 2011 22:38

Well done!

Still playing with 2.5, but looks good so far :ok:

Any chance of printing maps in the future?

cheers,

Nivo

baswell 2nd Dec 2011 03:34

Just to let you know guys, for contractual reasons (the counter party still needs to sign) we have temporarily disabled the "get winds from ARFOR" feature.

But we can enable it remotely, so as soon as we get the word, we'll turn it on without having to wait for an Apple review cycle.

Trent 972 5th Dec 2011 23:22

Having trialled OzRunways on my Iphone for a month, I am pretty impressed by all this stuff, but where do you buy the Bluetooth gps units from? No online stores in the USA that I've tried to buy from, will ship to Australia???? :{ I'm more interested in the xgps150 because Keg gives it a good rap, (and I trust the Kegmeister) but any solution would be appreciated. I want to use it with an Ipad2.
(Yes I know the Ithingy has an integral GPS receiver, but I want MORE).
cheers

Bevan666 6th Dec 2011 00:44

Hi

I am pretty sure I bought mine here:

Dual Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver (Wirelessly Add GPS To Your Devices) #XGPS150 - Expansys USA

Cost me $150 AUD delivered and got here in about a week.

Bevan..

Jabawocky 6th Dec 2011 01:09

Trent,

I use the ipad2 3GS and have never found the need for an external GPS. mind you I do not sit in seats 0A or 0B of them big balus.

But I do understand the concept of more GPS the better :E

rjtjrt 6th Dec 2011 01:32

Trent 972
I just bought an XGPS150 on eBay (from a US seller) for A$103-00 shipped.
Arrived all OK and fast.
PM me if you want details sent by email.

...(and I trust the Kegmeister)
Brave man! :ok: My wife barely trusts me- particularly with technology- so I'm always surprised when others do!

Actually, I've been using the GNS5870. It's worked pretty well for me thus far. I haven't tried the other one at all. It'd be interesting to have them running in parallel on a particular flight.

jbr76 6th Dec 2011 13:20

Does this app run purely on GPS only or does it draw data from 3G (like googlemaps on iPhone)?

Shagpile 6th Dec 2011 17:04

Either. You can download on-demand (like Google Maps) or you can pre-download all the maps at home so you don't need an Internet connection whilst flying.

VH-XXX 6th Dec 2011 21:56

I think JBR meant does it use GPS or 3G for positioning purposes to which the answer would be that it uses whatever the iPad passes to the application, so if there is no 3G available, it would use GPS or 3G in the interim until a fix is made by GPS.

jbr76 7th Dec 2011 05:22

Ok great. So basically if I turn off all 3G/Internet services on my iPhone, it will still work via the inbuilt GPS?

VH-XXX 7th Dec 2011 06:51

If you have the WIFI model. I run a 3G model iPad generally without the sim card installed and it works well. Cirrus, RV and other high wing plastics with no issues.

jbr76 7th Dec 2011 07:35

Thanks for your reply :ok:

Shagpile 7th Dec 2011 18:39

GPS does not work in Airplane mode.

But...you can individually disable WiFi, Cell data & Bluetooth, which has the same effect as airplane mode but keeps GPS working still.

porch monkey 10th Dec 2011 01:55

Question. Despite having bought and downloaded daps, I either am too stupid to find them or it isn't accessible to me for some reason. Also, since doing the dreaded iOS 5 thing, (5.0.1, I waited.......) I have downloaded ersa again but have no airport info at all. Any ideas? Thanks.:ugh:

Polonski 10th Dec 2011 04:55

Yes it can operate solely on GPS signals. I regularly use it across the western desert areas a LONG way from any 3G or any phone - it works great! :ok:

Shagpile 10th Dec 2011 05:51

daps...isn't accessible to me for some reason
The airport list will give you the ERSA entry by default. Try searching for "CAN ILS" in the Airports list - it will give you the Canberra ILS. Or select the airport you want & when you're viewing the ERSA, press the little bookmark icon in the top right to see what other info is available for that airport. Also you can swipe left/right when looking at an ERSA or DAP entry to get the next one.

SpyderPig 10th Dec 2011 06:25

So I guess now the question is:

Is this iPad + Ozrunways combo good enough now to replace all portable GPS systems? Im thinking so!

That's what I thought but today, in Airplane mode, whilst looking at an Off Road mapping App, I had a ground speed of 820+ kph. My Cruiser's good but not as good as that!

Kelly Slater 10th Dec 2011 23:11

Is the GPS / moving map extendable beyond Australia? Could you preload maps of PNG or other areas of the Pacific?

baswell 11th Dec 2011 06:54

You can't load maps yourself, no. If we can find a source that will license them to us, we'd certainly consider it, though! Where would you normally get your maps for PNG from?

porch monkey 11th Dec 2011 10:06

Thanks for the prompt reply shagpile. The problem is when I open the airports list on any airport, all I get is a blank page. Before the update to ios5 it worked fine, but I still couldn't access daps then either.

Shagpile 13th Dec 2011 10:06

Yep iOS5 is a nightmare for transferring data. Best to write down your userID & reinstall OzRunways 2.5 from scratch. It will work perfectly after that (though you'll need to download your maps again, which are about 15mb each).

porch monkey 14th Dec 2011 09:39

Ok mate, cheers. Will give that a go!

Pass-A-Frozzo 15th Dec 2011 03:10

Not a bad App! Amazing that you can get this sort of thing now a days without having to spend millions on avionics! [and you can 'upgrade' the software without having to go spending another few million!]...

Only question is can someone recommend a good knee-board to hold the dam thing?

Homesick-Angel 15th Dec 2011 04:06

There are similar things on the sportys web page that are a lot cheaper and just as good.Im sure there are other places to get them online but that price seems a tad on the high side

MilFlyer 15th Dec 2011 04:15

Yeah I looked at Sporty's for the same item when I bought mine, but the postage brought it up to more than the Aussie price and I didn't want to wait for delivery from the US. They have this weird system where they charge you $14 for International documentation etc. and then separately bill you for postage after that. The other thing is that my Credit Card company seems to enjoy screwing me on the currency transfer from USD to AUD .. :{
