It's not mandatory after all.... you are welcome to not decode the TAF should your intellect not be able to handle a plain English paragraph :)

I don't think it matters because soon enough they will use codes again, ones that you have to be gen Y to understand. Lol...

They included a feature that I don't want to use and have the option of opting out of... what bastards.

Cloud Basher, you're right about that. I have trouble with some txt msgs, lol.

METAR Raw Data - It ain't that difficult

Simple (really) de-code:
METAR KABCS 121755Z AUTO 21016G24KT 180V240 1SM R11/P6000FT -RA BR BKN 015 OVC025 06/04 A2990 RMK A02 PK WND 20032/25 WSHFT 1715 VIS 3/4V1 1/2 VIS 3/4 RWY11 RAB07 CIG 013V017 CIG 017 RWY11 PRESFR SLP 125 P0003 6009 T00640036 10066 21012 58033 TSNO $

For something a little less simple, try a SNOWTAM de-code.

Plain language text - not on my flight deck :ugh:

I personally like the codes because it allows me to show off in front of laymen

What a great uptake on the new version!

This was at 9:00am this morning! I reckon I saw 50+ aircraft on the map at one stage on the weekend.

I now have the inspiration to purchase a SIM card :)

I particularly like the track function. I spotted a Comanche on there late last night heading from Darwin to Broome at speeds I can only dream of :hmm:

How often are the live track targets updated (position, track and altitude)on my Ozrunways screen?

Squawk7700 15th Jun 2015 01:00

Seems ZWX is being a bit of a trickster as the rego isn't current :-)

piano_player 13th Jul 2015 01:56

where did the CAO's go?

My ozrunways used to have CAOs and CARs and other useful documents, but they have disappeared?

does anyone know how I get them back?

mustafagander 13th Jul 2015 10:07

Piano man I just checked and my subscription has all that stuff. It is the 25th June 2015 AIRAC 1507 issue.

Have you tried to force a database download through the "Cache Management" tab in the "Settings" area? Have you ensured that old copies of superseded database(s) have been deleted to free up space?

Good luck.

Yes you'll need the IFR subscription for those; send us a quick email at help.ozrunways.com if you need some help.

And now Dynon's SkyView system supports OzRunways (and AvPlan....) maps & charts. Top marks to you blokes for this effort!

A question for the Ozarunways blokes: I've had a look through both the Dynon and OsRunways websites and there doesn't seem to be a reference to pricing or where you download the maps from. Dynon refers us to OzRunways, but there is nothing there or in the KB articles on t he help portal.

What are we looking at for pricing and availability of the Dynon maps?

Hey guys -- the maps are ready and have been tested on the Dynon. We are just putting the finishing touches on the website to buy them (they need to be tailored per dynon device). Should be very soon - maybe a couple of days. Bas is on the plane back from Oshkosh now and will finish it once his jet lag allows.

Your other option is to get the data from AvPlan EFB - we also exclusively include geo-referenced DAPs as well (airport diagrams and instrument approach procedures)

We have also the same data for AFS as well - this is usable now in their current software release

OZ RWYS Renewal

I have received a couple of emails advising my OZRWYS (Android) Subscription is soon to expire.

I opted for the Premium Subscription last time (to allow a second tablet), but at $800 for a suitable one (which you cannot replace the battery to extend its service life), I never bought a second Tablet.

There does not appear to be an option to renew OZRWYs, unless its the 'Premium' subscription again.

Do I have to wait for it to expire to be able to renew with 'Basic'?

You'd think a company that writes software could do a better job on their website.

AmarokGTI 26th Feb 2018 00:33

Just email them or contact them on Facebook if you’re that way inclined. They are very quick to reply and helpful.

Ixixly 26th Feb 2018 01:45

I'm with Amarok, just shoot them an email, they've always been extremely helpful for me in the past when I've sought it.

Dora-9 26th Feb 2018 17:55

In fact, their customer service, should you email them, is very impressive. Certainly over and above what you could reasonably expect.

Dora 9 using Ozrunways. I'm impressed!

Can't agree with that more!

I am using OzR on an iPad 2 running iOS9, and couldn't work out why it wouldn't wifi the plan to the EFIS. Turns out a piece of code would work with everything but iOS9 to do that. Rather than say 'too bad, an iPad2 is too old', they re-wrote that section of code and released it in the latest update and it now works a treat. :D :ok:

fujii 27th Feb 2018 05:09

I traded in my iPad 2 for the latest. ‘Twas only $50 but better to have the parts recycled than laying around at home. As I was going to Japan at the time, the newest iPad was duty free.

Acrosport II 28th Feb 2018 04:15

Very poor customer service of OzRwys to have to mess around emailing or ringing them just to be able to renew at a lower Subscription level.

Not having the option on the website would appear to be intentional.

Why not just have an option for basic package renewal.

Come on Ozrwys.

If you'd spent the time you spent posting publicly about the issue and emailed them instead, your issue would have been sorted by now.

Some people are never happy.

I once stood in line on a cruise ship listening to people in front of me complaining to customer service. Some of the complaints were ridiculous. The guy in front wanted them to refund the difference between the cost of his balcony room and a normal room because he was standing in line at customer service waiting for service when the ship left port, therefore he didn't get to experience his balcony to its full potential as he missed the view of the ship leaving. He could have easily gone back at a more suitable time.

Ixixly 28th Feb 2018 06:10

Too right SWTT!

Acrosport, I actually just checked myself and it doesn't appear that difficult at all, there's a button to "Renew Now" then not far below that they have their other products, just select the one you want, for example "Private / VFR" and then "Add Products", it'll take you to the next screen which shows the amount, confirms the subscription date and lets you pay for it. Not too difficult really.

Plus as SWTT said, the time it took you to log in here, post a couple of posts, you could have just emailed them and got the answer directly and I'd dare say very quickly too!

You cannot select the options below. It wont let you.
Probably because its a lower subscription. It will only let you renew at the premium.

Hence my post.

Ozrwys send email reminders to renew your subscription.

They specifically include a link direct to their webpage for you to renew, asking that you renew directly rather than through a third party site (who takes a commission, and Ozrwys get less money).

But their website doesn't allow this, if you want to go to a lower subscription.

Not very smart on their part.

I wont comment on your remark. You're really not worth it.

mustafagander 2nd Mar 2018 08:26

Such a song & dance Acro. When I retired and the airline repossessed its iPad from me, I emailed OzRunways and requested they cancel the second iPad subscription. An email reply next day said that it was cancelled and my subscription was extended by X days to a new date as supplied.
Not real hard.

Avgas172 3rd Mar 2018 19:45

That reminds me, I better renew my subscription :)

ozgv 9th Apr 2018 08:55

Just wondering if anyone uses an iphone 7+ to run ozrunways?

I hate technology and hate travelling with so much junk so don’t want to fork out for an ipad if its only going to be used for ozrunways so looking at upgrading my phone to the + and using that.

Aircraft is GA such as a 172 so a suction mount on the side windows will suffice but just wondering if the 5.5” screen size is usable..

peterc005 9th Apr 2018 23:20

Even on an iPhone OzRunways is still very useful, and possibly more convenient than an iPad.

Aussie Bob 10th Apr 2018 04:07

I agree with Peter, my iPhone is small and I use OzRunways on it often, just perfect for a bloke who can't be bothered with the clutter of an iPad in the cockpit. Sure the tiny screen doesn't show much real estate but it is still fine and it is easy to read the ERSA etc just be zooming on where you need to.

CASA do specify a minimum screen size I think if it is your sole means of getting info. Mine is not but it is all I actually use in flight.

bloodandiron 10th Apr 2018 04:28

I use OzR on my Samsung Galaxy S5 and the screen size is no problem. You do need to pan and zoom quite a bit to see certain things but it's not a big deal.

Squawk7700 10th Apr 2018 11:48

I prefer the iPad mini as I can view the weather cameras that are on there.

I've been surprised of late as to how many people didn't realise that the cameras are even on there! One chap thought they were just a static picture of what the airport looks like!

OzRunways question

Is it possible to delete my own Public Comment on OzRunways?

i have added a Comment, and have since learned The information is incorrect.

any suggestions from an OzRunways guru?

(yes, I have contacted OzRunways)

Squawk7700 7th Jul 2018 08:31

Users can't make changes to them, they are in the database and there until the guys remove them.

I've done the same thing in the past.

YPJT 7th Jul 2018 23:04

We've had to ask public comment put by third parties about airports be removed. The Oz Runways guys are pretty accommodating
