Shinx , No I am not interested in REX , I just know of a young guy at my flying school that has a very good reputation and good flying standards. He went to the final management interview and was basically told he was in . ( sent him a copy of the EBA and repayment schedule ) A week later he was called in to do a Maths and Physics exam and was told to go back to school to improve his Maths and Physics to be good enough for REX. By the way , he passed Maths and Physics in the HSC the year before. In hindsight it was a blessing as he finished his licence quickly and has got a job with another regional on much better money. It sounds like nobody in there ivory tower knows what is going on , different interview standards for each course ! Good luck to you and hope all goes well !

I betcha' there are a few REX "Managers" that wouldn't pass the exams either.

Bloody rediculous!

Shinx,
mate, if I were you I would go to Qlink and bypass the clogged filter that is Rex.
Yes, management will prob be the same in every airline, but in Rex you dont get paid to cop that kind of crap and it seems very tyrannical.

Good luck to you if you do it, but they don't schedule start dates until its convenient for them, not you....... that should be the first introduction/warning about getting bent over a barrel. Good little wallet good...... i mean good uh hum "cadet pilot".

Is REX still pinning their hopes (and company future) on CASA approving ICUS from the RHS?

yes they are, and its started already by shipping them to PelAir for ICUS and then bringing them back to Rex. Its only a matter of time before it may come crashing into a heap. It pays to keep experience and more to retrain.
Its a slow time and guys are already leaving for other jobs! haha

Hi shinx, I'm a cadet on the 010 course. They provide u with jepps, so u won't have to renew. Training has been good, although now we have guys coming from the UAE to do their MPL training so we were a little short on instructors. However, 2 new instructors have been hired and 3 more are coming in a month to take care of 011, this is why your course has been pushed a bit. At the moment we've been told your starting date is 31st of oct, although this might change.
Cadets aren't prohibited from talking in this forum, but as most of u who like the cadetships have found, this is a pretty pointless place to have accurate information.

Good luck and see you when u start

Ps. The maths and phys tests were done by the only 2 cadets who have been advanced cadets. Basically they only had to do their instrument rating, they had their cpl. They were a trial course and are now doing the ground school for the saab

Lord Leirbag , Your info is not correct regarding the Maths and Physics . The young bloke from my flying school had less than 100 hrs (ppl licence). I believe there was more than 2 candidates did the exams . Also they didn't get a start so they are not on a saab course. Anyway REX.s lose , good to see them move ahead with another outfit!

well you can forget about REX for any kind of future. Latest intel is managment are demanding pilots take Long Service Leave to I suspect, clear the books. Cadets, Junior F/O's and captains alike are leaving in droves for all the reasons so elequantly described earlier in this post. Poor Management ie interpersonal skills of the clowns in Management.

Leaving to where you might ask! Well, CX are apparently taking them REX bond and all, and providing a pay out figure on completion of CX training which covers the REX bond.

Emirites are about to announce a further order of 30 A380's which will only drive the frenzy for pilots further into next year. The previous 480 pilots will now increase to over 540 for emirites alone over the next 12 months.

REX has no fleet replacement program, treats is staff like ****, and is about to learn a very hard lesson in business. You can treat all of the people like ****, some of the time. You can treat some of the people like ****, all of the time, but you cant treat ALL of the people like **** all of the time.

My prophesy is that REX will retract from many routes blaming councils and Govt. for lack of support. Sky west will compete more heavily with the ATR deal making REX hurt even further. Passengers will realise the opposition provide a better, newer and nicer service and vote with thier feet.

Those who remained loyal to the company and/or could not re employ due family restraints, will end up with a log book full of useless hours on an orphan aircraft and at the back of the cue for any kind of career.

Those in REX who treated professional crew like ****, will have to then answer to them if they manage to get past the gate. It's a long road without a bend, as they used to say.

Wow bigbrother did you write that last post muttering and offering up sacrifices to the gods while sticking pins in your orange, blue and white voodoo doll in a dark room wallpapered with articles on Rex and shredded pictures of Saabs?

Have you SEEN how many command vacancies there are at the moment?> and how many upgradeable F/O's there are left?

andf not to mention the captains sitting on YES letters, waiting for a (very soon) start date! - I know of at LEAST two, in one base alone.

looks like NH and CH might have to dust off their uniforms and go fly the line.

Apache. Have you SEEN what you look like to other professionals?

Apache 01

EDIT: ... hmm, okay. Looking back this was a pretty douchebaggy thing to write.

yes, I have seen that... and had a good laugh at the same time.

Those who really know me, would know that I am one of the most ardent union supporters you will find.
And I would agree that the AFAP has over the past few months actually achieved some good stuff, but whether that was 'cos they got a boot in the backside from their members, or for some other reason? well, I guess we shall never know.

At the time they were not doing much for their members, me included, and it was very disheartening to have to pay those hard earned $$$$ to an apathetic organisation.

but I digress, SHINX. What has this personal jibe at me got to do with the mismanagement at REX?

As with anything in life, there are advantages and disadvantages to any course of action. For those interested in the REX cadetship and convinced that it is the way to go, good luck, and enjoy! Be aware however of the problems that you will face and don't be surprised by them.

Very funny that they expect you to pay $23,500 upfront, but can't even give you a basic timeline a few weeks in advance, nor any communication as to whether you will get a set of Jeppesen Airway Manuals. Sounds typical of the setup they have. Let's make a few quick dollars out of them.

Investigate the options available to you - such as VET FEE HELP - I know where I would be going to do flight training at the moment, and it is not REX's little school. The sausage factory that is AAPA does have some positives, but there are many better flying schools out there, and also a lot that are worse.

Would I pay $90,000 to do training with them and buy my way into the RHS of a SAAB? Probably not. Nothing against those that go for this option, but with this particular 32-week programme, the guys and girls coming out with their brand new shining MECIR and CPL have very limited knowledge... this despite the fact that they get great results in CASA exams. I'd rather have someone with real knowledge flying an aircraft than those that were just taught how to pass an exam...

Anyways, back to work. That's my 2 cents for now!

Rex announces new SYD-NTL-BNK (Ballina) Flights from Oct 30.

Seems they must have enough crew afterall!

No doubt flights will be getting the arse somewhere to try this one out.

Are eligible now; Wow that was quick! Managed to drum up all the required ICUS in a week?

Discussion moved to reporting points.

Hi Kruste and All,

Any serious new on the rex cadetship. I am in my forties with no experience. I applied last year and got tested and interviewed but didn’t get in, I suspect my age was a factor. I have since racked up a grand total of 12 hours and am just about to go solo. Is it worth trying again or should I just forget the dream.

Thank you all for your interesting comments.

Shock1, its never too late for any career change. If the cadetship is what you want to do, by all means apply again. I've heard many stories of qantas cadets only getting a shot after multiple tries.

For what its worth, there has been at least 2 rex cadets in their forties that I know of, so I would say age (at least your age) is not a factor.

Shock1,

please consider your family and mortgage. If you have kids still in school etc and a decent mortgage repayment then you may want to think twice!! Its a big commitment finanicially and you will be locked in to a system with penalties if your circumstances change (medically wise) and lose your license.

If you are going to outlay alot of cash for such a scheme, consider doing it for a jet. Otherwise, do your pilot license on the side for fun and then upgrade to commercial license if you want to then.

good luck.
