I totally agree but as you know it all comes down to time and resources. JQ may not have the time to refer to everyones past history via their personal file before giving a reference (even though they should) its a sad fact. On the other hand JQ may be happy to see the back of these crew you mention therefore give them good references so that QCCA takes them off JQ's hands.

I've just had a riveting evening re-reading the EBA. Sooooo many terms I don't understand at all I'm sure they'll make sense eventually. But I really want to know what a t&c is ? It gets referred to a lot ( not in the EBA, but on here ) and I can't work it out. I'm sure it's pretty obvious

Totally agree with Mrseatback..
It is astonishing that a person who has been on a short list for 11mnths 2 weeks for MAM, gets a call from QCC and is advised of a start date for GS, flying longhaul?
In a year things change, why is there not even an interview for these people???Meanwhile we have experienced longhaul crew who get knocked back after a groups activity?30 min for somebody to make a judgement on who you are and if you are right fro the job.
Don't get me wrong MAMers are a welcome part of the QCC team, but this recruitment is not waterproof at all..The same recruitment process should apply for ALL applicants, this is what happens in the real world..if it is not followed, it is very biased and discriminating way of doing business.
MRseatback..I think your time will come, in 6 months time,,,after reading Patty's comment. Don't give up!!!!

It would make more sense to give everyone a panel interview first and then do call backs for role play and groups. Or give everyone a chance at the panels. I wonder how many amazing people have been knocked back after the first stage? I know they don't have unlimited time but the fact is they are still recruiting, and somewhat dubiously. If they could hire three or four more people each open day bc they gave everyone the same chance, then they wouldn't need to have such a long recruitment process. Obviously there are going to be candidates that are unsuitable at first glance, but if everyone was given the same starting block, then everyone could walk out with experience and their head held high. How many people have been accepted after the second, third, fourth time trying? Who's time then has really been wasted?

Galleyhag you are very wrong here.
Once an internal applicant has had their panel interview a standard email is sent to all base managers with these questions to be answered;
1) What is such and such es sick leave balance?
2) What is such and such es annual leave balance?
3) Please supply all positive and negative comments on applicants file.
4) Do you (The Base Manager) recommend such and such for this position with QCCA?
This exactly what is asked for and no personal file is forwarded to QCCA.
All sick leave is accessed through lotus notes from all QF HR departments as is all BFR which have been scanned and kept on file.

I really dont think QF Recruitment have the time or resources to go through JQ, QFLink employees personal files nor do I think those airlines and Rex will even send employees personal files to QF for perusal.
Therefore any past performance or sick leave issues will not even come to the attention of QF unless of course this is past on from the relevant airlines during a reference check.

How do I know?
I have seen it and it's no big deal. Just a few short questions is all they asked of your managers.
As an internal applicant. I refer to all employees under the Qantas Group of companies who attended a panel interview only ie: MAM, Jetconnect, Jetstar etc

Well andyman_82
they don't exactly go around broad casting it....why would they, but I am sure if you went up to your manager and asked you would get an answer.
Do you really think if you are employed with QF in another area they wouldn't want to know what your work record is like?

The Question...
.......then why are those with a poor performance history being employed by QCCA?
Australia has a small population from which to draw suitable CC candidates.
More to the point there is an even smaller number of people interested in the CC job.
With such a large recruitment drive in progress it is inevitable that some unsuitable candidates will slip through the net...no interview process is infallible.
Not all references are checked adequately...it comes down to logistics.

This is the latest from QF
"QCCA cabin crew were sent an email and a text asking for them to refer anyone they know who as previous or current cabin crew experience to attend a panel interview 1 April08".. Desperado
What is happening is hideous. The drift amongst qf and qcc crew has started. QCC crew now complaining why they get the ****ty flights and galley duty only and the worst crew rest time.Drop out rate is HUGE..Youngest on a LAX flt was 19YRS who literally really had no idea, how did she even get in?
QCC is getting desperate for crew..Standards are falling..Anybody wishing to become a FA WILL eventually get in. It will be like the mexicans in the States..The job has certainly lost its shine...
Sorry to be a pessmist but its true..

Reiteration
OZ has a small population with a small number of suitable CC candidates.
Some duds will get through.
When the pool of suitable candidates is exhausted....what do you do?
Lower the standard.
When you do that the quality and consistency of service will deteriorate.
The future of QF Service is in good hands?

Oh Really...?
Care to elaborate?
Thats a wide brush you are using.
Company research indicates that customer service satisfaction is at an all time high in all Cabins.
Are you perhaps talking about another sub group in QF CC ?

Oh Oh,
andyman, prepare to incur the roth now of the LHCC empire. Big mistake. surfside6 will be doing the ring round to all his mates as we speak, and they will all come to his rescue on this thread, and in droves!
Take cover as the LHCC unite! Don't ever dare to criticise!
PS surfy, if cabin service is at an all time high, I'd hate to see it when it's lower! "Company Research": like the letters you always see in the Qantas News. Always the positive ones, never the negative letters!

The Troll is Back
Funbags is on my ignore list.
So I will take a stab at funbags rhetoric
For those of you who havent met "funbags" his/ her sole agenda is to bait and antagonize with a view to closing threads.
Its sport for funbags....indicative of a sad tragic life spent alone with a cat scarf and slippers.
Paranoid is funbags middle name...there are conspiracies everywhere.
Funbags is also anti Qantas often complaining of poor service and CC whose behaviour is apalling.
Funbags has flown on every QF route and has met every FA and none of them is any good.
That about covers funbags...a sad spiteful troll
