Still no news. Am hearing of even more people getting rejection emails.

What I would like to know is how many people haven't heard a thing?!

I'm concerned they might have lost my application! LOL

I haven't heard a thing since they sent out the group email. They asked me to do a medical on the 19th Feb, which I completed yesterday.

I don't think there are many of us "first round" applicants left to hear some news.

Anyone else?

Hello all ...

Hi all, newbie here, I have just applied for both Qantas & Virgin online, Melbourne based.

A few questions if I may -

How exactly does the rostering work, as in how much time do I get to spend at home in a block? I am mother of a young (well, 8yrs) child - are any FA's here parents, and do you feel you spend adequate time with your children? I would adore this job and lifestyle, but it's important to me to have some balance and not have my daughter forget who I am ....

Second question - how long after putting in the intitial application did you hear anything at all? Just wondering on a ballpark timeframe.. should I expect to wait months to hear anything at all?

And a gap on my resume, due to mat leave/raising child, do you think they will look at this negatively? There was nowhere to explain why the gap. I have great references and good customer service experience in public service.. if I get to that stage of them checking refs!

TIA! Was very grateful to find this site full of great info.. oh another question! How long do you usually get to spend in slip ports?

5th March Recruitment Day

Hi everyone

attended my QCCA external melbourne recruitment day today and relieved its over. Its quite a long day with lots of waiting but that also gave me the opportunity to meet lots of interesting people and make some new friends. The recruiters today did an amazing job, everything went smoothly and they made us feel very welcome.

I made it through the whole day and the panel interview wasn't as bad as i thought. Approx 60 people attended and I was suprised at the very large amount that got called back for the panel (compared to other days). Not sure if that is a good or bad thing for me , i guess it just depends on the quality on the day. So i guess the waiting begins

Thanks everyone for their input, the information on here really helped

Hi tigerlily, Welcome to the forums

There are plenty of current QF longhaul F/As with kids. It can be ok, it just depends how you look at it. Being away for up to 8 days at a time can suck a little, but on the other side, you then get to spend a good amount of time at home. And when you are home, you are really home, 24/7.

I know people in regular jobs who get nowhere near as much quality time with their kids as what a lot of F/As do. In a regular job, you are rushing all week, often only get to see the kids for a rushed half an hour in the morning, then for a bit at the end of the day, but you're stressed and trying to get everything done. Most F/As I know who have kids really get to spend all their time off in between trips focusing on their kids. You don't have any other stresses or work responsibilities, so you can really focus and really appreciate time with kids/family.

I know that on the new conditions, you will be away a little bit more than current crew, but it basically works out to just one more Hong Kong trip or similar per roster - not a huge difference. As it is, I've done an extra trip this roster, and I'm surviving.

On the downside, it can be difficult when there is something on at school that you really want to be home for, but can't, because you're on a trip. You really have to be prepared for that. Also things like birthdays, Christmas, parties, etc. You will probably be allowed to request a "Special Event Leave" day if you know well in advance, but that comes out of your annual leave (and you won't get one for things like Christmas).

Another advantage: you will probably get to go on many more overseas holidays with your kids! My girlfriend has a child, similar age to yours, and she has been overseas more than any kid I know! We've also taken her on a couple of work trips. It's good fun

Let me know if you have any more questions about it. It is a big decision and does not suit every parent, but I reckon it's worth a go.

I didn't realise the MAMers didn't have to wait. That's great - another reason for them to come across to QCCA As MAM, they got no staff travel at all!

Thank you

Thank you flugbegleiter, that's very helpful. I can see the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.. Christmas probably being the biggest of those, but perhaps regular trips to Disneyland would help me get over it . I hear you on a regular job - I currently only work 3 days p/w and it still feels like that! Working days are just a blur. It really does sound like a fantastic job.. I hope I at least get a chance at a recruitment day. Thanks again!

the nitty gritty

Hi All! Another newbie wannabe, ex emirates, qantas hopeful! I just had my interview day, good fun! I dont want to get too far ahead of myself but am wondering if anyone can tell me what the story is with Qantas staff parking? Is there any? Or must I use the normal airport carpark, if so, do they offer staff discount?

I am looking at my options for commuting from the Gold Coast to Syd or Mel for trips. Will have to consider parking at coolangatta airport, paying for flights to and from work, accomodation when trips take off and land outside of domestic flight hours. Can anyone shed some light on my options for commuting?

Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney all have car parks for their staff. If you have a look in your roadbook you can actually see the staff car park. It's free and a bus provided by Qantas which takes you into the airport.
Lots of staff commute, and they use their staff travel which you get after 6 months. But if you use staff travel, you have to remember, its standby travel, so you might not get on.

Leanne,
there are many commuters from OOL but you would have to speak to one of them about where they park because there is no staff car park for cabin crew there.
I know some people who live on the Gold Coast prefer to drive to BNE to fly to SYD as OOL only has about two QF flights to SYD per day and the rest are Jetstar. This may suit you if you are buying internet specials on them but staff travel on Jetstar works differently to QF and you'll find out about that in due course.
There are plenty of hotels and commuter flats in Mascot as well.

leanne980.....

No matter where you commute from it's best to get on the internet as soon as you get your roster.

Going to work is always easier when you have a confirmed seat but the best part is when you have just done a long flight into Sydney and you find out it's a public holiday or something and the flights are all full.

You walk straight up to the counter and give them your id and Bobs your uncle ...your on the way home....No stress...No hassle....Your biggest problem is which shop to get a coffee from.

Staff tickets are a nightmare especially when you've worked all night.

I'm over this waiting...f*****g over it. I know I should be more patient, but dammit...what the hell is the hold up with my application??

It'll be two months next week since the seminar date...I'm in week 2 of 4 from the 'wait and see' email...meanwhile, dates are being allocated left right and centre to both friends and friends of friends.

Rant over.
