Tar and feathers seems appropriate treatment for LKH if this is the way he behaves. Shocking......!

Contact CASA

Re: training standards & AOC's: Anyone who's involved with this training process has a professional obligation - Contact CASA immediately & report the facts!

We all know accidents are just links in chains. Can anyone else see a chain building here?

Its quite likely CASA are already taking quite an interest in this affair and would be greatly assisted by factual information.

What's happened to this thread? Did it miraculously die on 9th June?

I've been interested in the cadetship for some time now but certainly not so sure now?

It certainly has gone quiet. It would seem that the trainees down in Mangalore have been muted. Either by fear of the consequences, or by effective electronic censorship.

If any of them survive the process, or indeed if the process itself survives, I wonder what sort of product we will be left with?

And people think we live in a democracy!

It seems that's what most are thinking(myself included). If the REX suits were smart(shh... they're probably listening), they would put out a glowing report on the progress of the students. Other wise they won't get many more applicants for future classes.

Anyone going through or recently applied for this?? Just wondering if things are still just as bad as they seem to be after reading this thread, I have been looking at the Cathay Pacific cadet scheme as another option but am sort of considering this one too after looking at the new building and flight school it looks pretty cool and nice to be closer to home!

I put an application in and didn't get past the WOMBAT test. Well at least to the best of my knowledge I didn't. They didn't even bother to contact me and tell me either way. Pretty poor if you ask me.

Its pretty simple actually:

If you actually want to sit in the RHS of a SAAB on pretty average wages with no career progression then you pass and are officially a WOMBAT!

Sorry, its Friday arvo.

Hmmm. I'm considering applying for the REX cadetship and I have got to say this thread has really put the wind up me.

Can the cadetship/REX really be that bad or am I just being overly optimistic in the hope things have changed for the better? Maybe they have or is all the hooplah with Wagga opening shifting the focus from the real issues that still lie beneath!

I've worked hard for my 80K and I think I owe it and myself better - if anyone can suggest a better and more realistic way of getting my foot in the aviation door please let me know. I'd be giving up a good job to chase it...

As far as I know, there's still nothing wrong with packing up the car and heading to the North West of Australia looking for that first gig... more than a few jobs in NT out of Darwin as well.

Getting your foot in the door has always been the challenge. Be-it that first elusive instructing/charter job, or for some a cadetship. If you are sucessful in gaining a REX cadetship Lenroy, you will not see your current income for at least 5-6 years. Add the cost of the cadetship itself, and you will be behind (at least income wise) up to 7 years.

My first fultime flying job paid approx half of what my then "civilian" job was paying. After 5 years in GA, (training, private flying, Casual, etc..) did I hesitate. Absolutely not! whatever you do, it must be because you want this above everything else.

Be prepared for the realities however, (career progression, failure to qualify, a rollercoaster of professional ups and downs) Plenty of info in this thread about that.

Krusty,

I value your opinion throughout this thread but can I ask why it is you seem to have such ill feeling towards REX.

I'm not attempting to start a flame war here or anything else for that matter, rather I am just seeking an objective point of view on things.

This will be a major decision for me should I take it and I want the decision to be as informed as possible without prejudice (bearing in mind I have actually read the rest of this thread).

Again, thankyou for any input. Any input is good input as far as I'm concerned.

No flame war Karhu. I have said on numerous occasions I am NOT anti REX, and I'm not anti cadet either. What I have found difficult to swallow over recent years however, is REX managements approach to it's crewing issues. One thing I have constantly said, is that the Cadetship will not solve REX's problems in this area. Have look back through this and other REX threads, you'll see what I mean.

Becoming a professional pilot is a big decision. A decision that we all had to come to terms with at some stage. Is a Cadetship with REX a better option than going the traditional route? Will you become a Regional Captain sooner by choosing one over the other? Will you have the Quals eventually to become a Captain at all? Will you have the Quals, if after a few years you don't like it, to apply for something else?

The path to a career as a professional pilot has always been full of uncertainty. IMHO whatever path you choose, you will only succeed if you forsake everything else to achieve it. There will be some speed bumps along the way. How many, and how often, will depend on your personal circumstances, your abilities, and in no small measure, luck!

For what it's worth, pound for pound, you will probably find yourself in the RHS of a regional airliner sooner by becomeing a REX cadet. But take caution, the path is not garenteed, and where you go from there is still not entirely clear (again, have look at the previous threads). Some have failed to complete the process. Having said that, some general entry "experienced" candidates have failed as well. It's never been a walk-up start. If it was, well then everybody would be doing it.

As for the next looming Captain shortage, and the current oversupply of F/O's that cannot be upgraded, well that's another story. Best of luck,

Krusty.
