The Home of Photos in Dunnunda! Mk I
Did the obligatory trip a couple of weeks ago up through NW NSW and SW QLD to have a look at how much water got dumped on the ground up there back in February. To say "lot's" is understating things somewhat.
We were staggered at how much water is still laying around nearly three months after the event. If you get the chance to get out there over the next few weeks and have a look, don't hesitate, it's well worth it.
I hope the pics aren't to repetitive as I know Jaba (at least I got the wing in the right half of the picture) and some others have already posted on this subject.
Lake Menindee.
Menindee Lakes looking back up the Darling towards Wilcania.
Just north of Wilcania tracking up the Paroo River. It hasn't flowed into the Darling for a 118 years and has only done so three times in white man's history.
Looking up an eastern arm of the Paroo. In runs in from the righthand side in the previous photo.
Pedalling furiously towards Tibooburra for a refuelling stop and lunch at the pub.
Bullo creek overflow to the north....
....and looking out the lefthand side of the 210 to the south on descent for YTIB.
Looking up sun across the Coongie Lakes system.
Coongie Lakes on track form Innaminka to Birdsville.
Still a sh!tload of water around on descent into YBDV.
On the apron at YBDV....

....the panel is original and hasn't changed (except for the addition of a small GPS) since the day the aeroplane rolled out the factory door back in '82.
We tracked south out of Birdsville along the Diamantina until it swung around to the SW. We kept going until we intercepted the Cooper creek system, above.
The amount of water still in this area is absolutely amazing.
Water as far as the eye can see.
And still there's more!
Left the Cooper now and heading west towards Lake Eyre.
Out over the lake and about to swing around to the south and track for William creek.
....we obviously took a wrong turn at Lake Eyre and missed the Warburton Groove. Anyone know where ?
Back on track at 9,500 over the Flinders, silky smooth (the whole trip was) and heading home. Five big fat pr1cks on board, full fuel, bags and other assorted rubbish, the 210 was making good 168 ktas.
Not to shabby.
Willpena pound.
Late afternoon sun on the ranges just south of the pound.
It's a great time of the year to be flying out over inland Oz. Big high pressure systems marching across the continent one after the other keeping things nice and stable and a lid on the bumps (doncha just hate those ?)
Do yourself a favour....

Good Photos and Good Aircraft
gassed budgie:
I enjoyed the photos, thank you and a real aeroplane.
Not too many people see the interior of Australia looking like that.
Well done

Great photo's and thanks for sharing them GB.

Cessna 210
Jabawocky:
In the days gone by I thought they were a great step up and the idea of the retractable gear appealed to me as well as their speed compared to the competition.
I must admit that one model of the C210 gave some concern when the undercarriage locks would let the gear doors partially open in the cruise!.

What is utterly amazing about that C210 is that all the ARC **** in the stack and the 400A autopilot is still working
They are a fine aeroplane - FTDKer kindly threw the keys to a low hr 1984(?) model with IO550/G430/55x a/p a couple of years ago for a quick 4 or 5 hrs including some IFR (in IMC). The owner has asked that the factory new engine be run in while he was in hospital.
It was a fun days flying after 25 odd years away from the 210 but at some point during the day Forkie looked at me from the rhs with raised eyebrow (I think it was while we were on descent into Mackay or somewhere listening to the windscreen creak in the light chop) "so whaddya think?" "I prefer a Bo" "Me too".
I came within a bee's dick of buying a C210N before I bought EZU and would have had I not been gazumped - prolly did me a favour.

At least with the 210 Chuck, you could have.....
Stood in the shade on a hot day 'outback',
Stood out of the rain,
Had an uninterrupted view of 'down below',
Flung a canvas cover over the wing and called it a tent,
And, not had the sun glaring at you off that wing whilst flying....
And yep, I think the banana is a nice airplane too....but I just have this 'preference'...
Cheers

I think if Cessna had built the C210 with the build quality and handling of the Bonanza it would still be in production and maybe the Bo wouldn't.
Interestingly the C195 DOES have the build quality, if not the handling, of a Bonanza so Cessna could do it at one point in its history.
And Forkie I hate that caption - not only have you never heard me say any such thing but I have held forth on more than one occasion about the morons who think little aircraft should be flown the same way big aircraft are.

First attempt at posting a photo...
Where, when and what aircraft types?
While I'm on a roll....this one shouldn't be too hard
