I hope that the aircraft in the hangar is not being painted with 2 pack. I notice that the guys spraying are not using fresh air supplied breathing masks. there is no such thing as a filter for isocyanates (not sure of the spelling, but you get the idea ), or so I was told by my paint supplier.

Highly likely be 2-pack. They don't paint planes in lacquer. It's hardly going to matter though - the finished job is going to be rubbish considering the environment it's being done it.

That poor old AC 685 has a lot of history. Wouls suit a renaissance project for someone with heaps of $$ to spend on her. You would get her for a song....and spend a swag on her. great old bird in her day. Any interested should call Christina Testorelli at Westpac. Not sure of her contact #.

Errr no, I am not a professional painter, only what I have been told when doing painting on my aircraft and building my RV(7). The finish that the painter got painting that Cessna to me is unimportant and unknown by me in any case. But as indicated in my previous post, I have been warned by people supposedly in the know, that painting 2 pack without a remote air supply to a positive pressure mask is dangerous. I do have such equipment for the painting that I do.It was in the way of a, hopefully, helpfull warning that I made the post. 2 pack paint fumes are a carcinogen.

Hi Arnold,

Not true - I have worked in mining using Polyurethane and I have post graduate qualifications in OHS.

The correct grade of filter on the correct type of respirator will provide protection against Isocyanates. It depends on the concentration of chemical in that atmosphere - I don't recall (last timeI was in the hangar) seeing proper air exchange systems although I wasn't looking either (I was swearing about my broken aircraft)

Thats the second biggest spray booth I have ever seen, hope the bus is gettin a lick to! The biggest was the northern tarmac at YMEN with at least one well known Duchess getting sprayed in the big blue hangar

Thanks Arnold, Horatio - was hoping we would get something positive out of the exchange.

(the Bus will be a retirement mobile home eventually)

On another tack,
Kavachi Submarine Volcano towards the end of its 6 week (average) eruption cycle. About every two years it would build itself up from one of the vents from the seamount (different vent most times), to a height of about 30 feet above the surface, and throw molten stuff and steam up to about 500 feet. Also when the ocean swells came rolling through there would be a lot of steam. Quite spectacular to see. Then as it started to die down, the eruptions would become less frequent after a month, and in another month it would be collapsed back below the surface as a muddy stain again.

Further east, Tinakula was smoking all the time, and would squeeze rocks the size of Volkswagens out and roll them down 2,000 feet into the ocean

Thanks Frigatebird. My memory isn't magnifying things after all. I have told stories of rocks as large as a car being bobbled about in Mt Bagana's crater back in 73 and wondering if maybe I was remembering things thay didn't really happen.
Close proximity to volcanos are the only occasions when I've felt fear of the mighty.

Well, as volcanoes seem to be pretty topical at present, here are a couple more.

Some friends of mine saw this one in Vanuatu and decided to head in for a closer look. At some stage near when the second pic was taken they saw rocks being spat up vertically that could take a wing off, so they quickly left the area

Looks like Yasur on Tanna. A very specky sight day or at night, and a tummy thumper up close on the rim.

Thanks Jabawocky, I appreciate the welcome!

No question about it - the thread is excellent...I would love to contribute something, however where I fly (Dubai) photography is prohibited unfortunately. Will try to do something though.

Thanks again.

Cheers - Keith

Vert amusing Capt Nemo!!!

I stumbled across that recently but no idea as to the origins other than what I read on YouTube.

Ps the Darwin trip is off (for me at least) the new owners are flying up themselves however all feedback from the other thread is greatfully received by the pilot.

SR22. Did the job. Am thinking about upgrading to a light turbine. Pity that Innodyn went under and Compair went pear-shaped, would have turbined a Compair 6.
