No problem, there are Europeans and Americans flying in PNG.
There is/was a guy flying for SouthWest Air with a similar history to yours.
The Africa bush flying experience may not count for a lot in itself, but the fact that you've proven you can live outside of your 'comfort zone' will be invaluable.
Research the operators, send CV's, follow up with phone calls, show up in POM, meet as many chief pilots as possible. If you don't give the impression of being a complete knob, you will certainly have a job.
If you DO act like a knob, you will still have a chance of scoring a job. It is amazing what persistance can achieve.

Dero Klub!
I met the jap bloke at the aero club when he first arrived looking for a job with very basic hours. Not a bad type of chap seeing that he was the first since Sakura to grace the skies over Jacksons.

Is the Aero Club serving its purpose ?
I would like the general public to be aware that at Seven Mile in Port Moresby, there is a place that they call “The South Pacific Aero Club. It is falsely trading as it is not a fully operative aero club to the fact that there is no trainer aircraft or instructors to facilitate the training of local students that may wish to become pilots.
In fact, I have seen aspirant people turned away (overseas students also) when they have enquired at the place, to be told it is a drinking and meeting place and does not facilitate the name as advertised.
As the so-called Aero club is on CAA land and therefore under CAA jurisdiction and trading 24 hours a day even during holidays, we wonder if it’s true purpose is to help the young in a properly set up place that stands true in the name of this club.
I call on the authorities to investigate this “brothel” and shut it down if it is not serving its purpose for the developement of people and the country.

PNG police impersonators will be 'shot on sight'

The head of Papua New Guinea's police force has warned criminals that if they are caught wearing police uniforms they will be shot on sight.
PNG Police Commissioner Gari Baki issued the warning after criminals dressed in police uniforms made off with close to $800,000 from a bank in the tourist town of Medang.
"I am taking a tough stand now that criminals who are using police uniforms to conduct their illegal intentions, and if they are caught by police they will be shot on sight," he said.
Commissioner Baki says the police uniform has been worn with pride for over 120 years and has been subjected to abuse by criminals.
A special task force has also been set up to investigate the recent spate of armed robberies.

'Worn with pride' may be overstating it just a tad.
As for shooting on sight?
Well if the said offender is 'sighted' by one of the VERY small % of police that carry a firearm then maybe...unless it is a wantok of course.
Why are 95-98% of PNG police not armed?
Because they cannot be trusted to not hand said weapon over to the wantoks.
In my time in PNG most of the rascals wearing police uniform during a robbery had a perfectly legitimate reason for wearing said uniform...they were in fact serving officers either reserve or fulltime

Tinpis, those photos make me want to cry. That hangar saw some incredible miracles performed, restoring bent, broken and tired baluses to serviceability. A real credit to the Talair engineers.
One thing I never had to worry about in a Talair aircraft was reliability.
The Clive Steele Club was the hangout in my time in Mendi (79-80); assume they are one and the same, but it had a larger entrance when I was there, plus Gus Vanscolina's very bent C-207 prop on the wall, after his engine failure in the Hum Gap.

In fact I helped pour the concrete for the footings with the army blokes who were all top hands
Gus could have added more than one prop to the collection
Agree 100% about miracles in that hangar but they nearly stopped a little before your time with the hiring of a pommie ginger beer very fond of sealing things up with selastik (gorilla snot)

The hangar produced a few notable restorations a Cessna 170 made of C185 bits and there was an old (strutted) C210 in the back of the hangar that was a mystery

Sad indeed...I am with CW...many fond memories of an era that we won't see again.
I think the last 'miracle' was dragging P2-SEP/VH-GKE (C185) out of the aircraft graveyard by the fence at the top of 35L and restoring her to pristine flying condition in, what became, the last months.
I will admit to being a little surprised Dennis did that...he never struck me as an old softy when it came to aircraft. I was impressed.
