Mission Strip
Hereīs a tip for the last picture. The mountain I was referring to is Mt Elimbari. Thatīs the one with the 1800 ft near vertical drop on one side.

West Goroka
Reference post #2579
My parents lived in one of the very first houses established in West Goroka (the houses to the left of the runway in the photo) and I was also a foundation student at the primary school set up there, which is where I used to spend all my time watching the GSA Norsemans, Ju52s and DC3s taking off instead of studying!
Could have been an astronaut by now if I had paid more attention inside the classroom instead of watching aeroplanes outside of it! Oh well, that's life.

Nambaiyufa. Another one that is now closed... Some of the spots closer to towns and roads like Tarabo, Nambaiyufa, Kainantu etc all now closed. Only problem is, the roads ain't roads no more either...!

That's about where I envisioned it. I would still call it South Western side. I think I do vaguely recall being told about a prior strip in that area. Unfortunately there no longer...
Do you remember the massive cave towards the top of Elimbari about half way between Monono and Nambaiyufa (Southern side)? Would always try and fly over it for the sake of the visitors if I had some on board. A great camera moment and would always draw some exclamations.
Looks like the spot heights are in metres? Definitely not feet anyway for PNG uninitiated who are looking on, thinking "those aren't huge mountains!" Hang on to that map - they are hard to come by these days!

Silly Old Git
Was there two Nambaiyufa?
I remember going to one closer to the Goroka valley. It was pretty benign and may have closed in the 70's?
Koingam rings a bell.

Nambaiyufa
I guess the northwestern Nambaiyufa on your map TP is probably meant to be Monono, especially as it is marked as airstrip. Quite a number of names on a lot of maps of PNG are different to the true local names.
But here is one more strip. Maybe Captain Nomad knows it, but itīs a bit out of the way.

Not ringing any bells right now. My 'hit' rate has deteriorated quite badly on the last couple of guesses so I might sit this one out for now - maybe the strip is another one that has gone by the wayside...?!

Well, the countryside looks somewhat similar to that around Ponampa, Omoura, Owena, Habina. Never landed at Ponampa as it was closed so don't know for sure. It doesn't match my pics of Owena so I know it is not that spot. Possibly even the Yobai area? That one was closed too so not sure. I also can't see the wara Wahgi or Tua anywhere around and that is pretty much getting into Chimbu territory...
I noticed earlier pics of Wonenara and mention of its closing. It might be a bit of good news to some that it was re-opened. Made plenty of trips in and out of there... Infact one day I think I made about 12 trips in and out!

The above photograph looks very similar to Yenkis(a) just around the corner from the Yuat. Often closed as a result of capricious actions from those living there. Of couse I may well be wrong.

The place is Ponampa Captain.Picture taken 1987, but here is a picture about twenty years earlier, with the signs of the first attemp of building a strip in the very upper left quarter of the image.
Chimbu Iīll have a look.
