I remember the scuttlebutt going around that the demo crew were "blown outta water" by Air Niugini F28 ops into Hagen and Goroka and that the 146 couldnt do what the Fokker did. True or not?

What is the name of the lake?

I agree, Lake Wanum. If you look at the Google Earth image, the foreshore matches that shown in the photo. The river in the photo appears to be a bit closer to the lake than is shown on Google Earth, but that could be the angle of the photo, or the river might have shifted over the years.
There was always a concern that a big guria might rupture the lake wall and flood the Markham River.
On another topic. Does anyone have any information/photos on MAL's
Caribou, which they operated in the mid sixties. I recall bumming a lift on it from Ialibu to Hagen. I think John Reagan might have been the captain.
There was a lot of outstation construction going on at the time and Govstores and PWD needed to shift heaps of cargo,some of it quite heavy and bulky, into the outstations.
The idea was that the Caribou would use reverse thrust on touchdown on some of the short Highlands strips. The then DCA put the kibosh on that idea. They were concerned about an engine failure when using full power and reverse thrust on the landing roll. That was the story doing the rounds when MAL disposed of the aircraft.
Maybe one of you old hands could confirm this.

Ansett MAL Caribous
We operated DC3s on a "developmental" set of P Charts at 26,500 lbs, for the want of a better description. What I beleived killed the Caribou was the refusal by the old DCA to recognise reverse thrust other than a buffer for a wet runway. The stopping capability (assymetric or otherwise could not be brought into accel/go or accel/stop calcs. I do recall the cost of spares was exhorbitant also!! Cosequently, the DC3 could legally lift more than the Caribou at most ports.

Share Photos.
Can someone tell me how to load a photo onto this page?
Steps I have taken so far are:
(1) Photos are uploaded to Photobucket.
(2) I click on the photo I want send to PPRuNe then I click 'share' then 'more options'.
(3) When the 'more options' page opens I click 'Get link code', ( a small copy of the photo I have previously clicked is shown in the top left hand corner of this page), and then go to 'IMG for bulletin boards & forums' and highlight the line below and copy.
(4) I log into PPRuNe Ples Bilong Tok Tok, click 'post reply' and paste in the large reply box. The text of the previously highlighted line is shown.
(5) I click on 'Preview Post' the text is still shown
-no photo. I click on 'Submit Reply', the message is posted, but still no photo, only the same text message as before. I then delete the post.
I have had a lot of help from 'Descol' by email but obviously I'm doing something wrong.
Help!!!

Just hold your mouse over the picture you want to include on a site and wait for the menu to open below it.
Click on the words in the 'IMG CODE box, in the bottom of that 'share menu' and it should say copy... mine does now. I think I used to click on the beginning of the string of letters and hold the control key down while moving the mouse to the right to highlight the whole string of letters. This action told the computer to copy that string.
Go to the Pprune page and put your cursor where you want to bung the photo and hold the control key down and hit the V key to paste the string of letters there.
Mine looks like {IMG}http;//i52.photobucket.com?albums/g33... blah blah blah on the page but when I either preview post or submit reply it comes out as the like a photo below.
That's Chuckles and some mates annoying the choppers by being in the way in their airspace.

Thanks to all concerned.
The photo is of 'Widdle' at Bensbach with Stuart Thomson, NHC surveyor, Brian Brumley, Bensbach co-owner and his third daughter Jane.
The yellow colour scheme was to make it easier to find if it went into the scrub. It was not needed when WDL was written off at Doini. Story and photos to follow.
