Trump not going to let that pass unanswered. Question is what are his options? Oil distribution could be a smart move....

Back on topic
i believe Iran has made an effort at deescalation tonight. It might not seem like it to some but their response has been limited and all about not losing face. Face is one of the most important things to a Persian. They could not respond to the US attack otherwise they will lose face. They gave warning to Qatar. They only launched 6 missiles. No injuries and all missiles intercepted from what we know. This is an olive branch of deescalation from Iran and I only hope there are level heads in the US administration that recognise this. |
A reminder to all:
If somebody has a go at you, please report the post rather than derailing the thread with an off topic response. Also: Let's play the ball, not the man. Thank you all in advance. On Topic: @Widger: that's an interesting assessment of the missile salvo. Thank you. :ok: |
Widger:
Not clutching at straws but I'd concur with that assessment. I also hope the White House sees things the same way. |
Just heard from a friend in Doha.
Certainly some tense moments, but apparently the missiles are no longer falling., For Jobza: I also hope the White House sees things the same way. |

What was it about the maintenance of the aim?
The Iranian capability to produce weapons grade uranium has been damaged but not destroyed. They have managed to disperse their existing stockpile of 400kg of 60% uranium and, according to reports, have a further new, unlocated, production facility and sufficient centrifuges to enhance it to 90% weapons grade in 3-6 months. Trump stated bluntly, after the raid, that the only option that Iranian had left was “total capitulation” and when asked what that meant said it meant the Iran had to let them in on the ground to finish the job. 48 hours later and all that has evaporated - vanished like early morning dew in the sun. TACO…… |
SASless,
That suggestion totally ignires Widger's comment about the need, prevalent in some cultures, to save face - if only for INTERNAL consumption. You don't save face by ringing up and asking for peace talks. But if you strike back (in a limited way) first you can then tell (lie to) your own citizens that you forced the other side into peace negotiations. It's all about the optics. |
I still do not think this is going to go away.

Dear colleagues:
One of our PPRuNe members lives in Doha. In the interest of personal security, their request was to not associate the following with their name, but to share it if I thought it would be of interest. Here is what was sent to me via PM. I live with my family in Doha and work at Al Udeid. It was obvious to us from about noon local time that something was up. As the sun set I was manning a lookout on the roof of our house. I had come down for some water when we heard the first booms. I got my family under the stairs on the ground floor and kept watch on the roof. I watched all but the first missile fly almost directly overhead and watched every Patriot launch and interception. We heard and felt every boom. The closest intercept was probably about 5km away from our house and debris fell about 5-10km from our house. My family were terrified. I was happier to be outside watching than staying indoors in all honesty. Once we felt that the wave had finished we headed to a nearby basement with some supplies. Our car was ready with supplies and a full tank of gas but my judgment was that the roads would be chaotic and that the basement was better if there were further missiles. This was not a fun experience and I encourage everyone to try to put themselves in the shoes of the people on the receiving end before they bang the drums of war. Thank you all in advance. |
A new Ipsos/Reuters poll of 1,139 U.S. adults reveals sharp divisions over America’s next steps in the Middle East. 79% worry Iran may target U.S. civilians after airstrikes. President Trump’s approval rating has also dropped to 41%—the lowest of his current term. |
He really is after that Nobel Peace prize - not sure he realises bombing the xxxx out if nuclear reprocessing sites isn’t the at to get it…..
A White House official told me that Trump's goal now is to end the war and he is going to make it clear to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "We want a deal and don't want any more war", the official said. |
With regards to optics as mentioned above I am not sure Mr Trump is aware of the phrase as a little like Mr Putin they have started something that I am not sure they know how to stop, but would love to be proved wrong.
Cheers Mr Mac |
It looks like just us two Mr Mac are not gung-ho and believe you cannot bomb your way to peace, the best thing the US could have done was to have stayed out of it and left it to the Israeli’s.
It will have repercussions, maybe not today or tomorrow, but repercussions there will be. |
VP on Fox News now - President Trump has negotiated an end to the 12-Day War between Israel and Iran.

Hopefully it is a stepping stone to getting Putin to see some reason also. |
I wonder if anyone has told Iran and the IRGC
Iranian TV today…. Video |
CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED! Officially, |
You are a habitual Yank-basher, Nutty, yes, but quite frankly I share your cynicism.
Also, when DJT wakes up tomorrow morning, he may have changed his mind. Stay tuned to this channel! Mr Trump has exported his domestic reality TV show, broadcast from the White House, to the entire world. The show's sponsors will soon be issuing their commercials in Farsi with English subtitles. |

Yes I know there's a seperate Thread for that War but just looking at why one War deserves "sorting" and yet another, much longer running one, only kept his interest for a few weeks before he gave up and, presumably, placing it in the "it's all too difficult" bin. Not expecting any profound observations aside from my thought that, for Trump, bolstering his own ego is more important than stopping bloodshed. Or is that just the cynic in me? Anyway, just something to ponder on...... |
Diplomat briefed on the ceasefire talks to Fox News:
"President Trump spoke with Qatar’s Emir and informed him the U.S. got Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Iran. The President asked Qatar to help persuade Iran to do the same, following that Vice President Vance coordinated with Qatar’s Prime Minister on the details. This effort proved successful and, following discussions with the Qatari PM, the Iranians agreed. The deal was coordinated at the highest level by the President and Vice President and the Qatari Emir and Prime minister directly." "Despite having been attacked just hours earlier, the Qataris set aside their grievances and prioritized regional security to get the deal done," the diplomat added. |
News of Cease Fire Agreement being released.
Details forthcoming as announcements are being made. |
Next step Gaza, I fervently hope, if possible a larger peace between Israel and Iran's proxies in Yemen, Gaza and Lebanon.
|
The adults in the room are relieved that President Trump has taken steps to quell the Iranian nuclear threat.

- Ed Remove any particular hostile intent, and Iran can join the nuclear club tomorrow with no worries to anyone. With the intent still in place, however, as things now stand, Iran will strive to make more, or go shopping for ready-made from one of their neighbours, P, C, NK, if not R. |
I'll give it another few hours to see if the shooting stops.
|
Genuine question here, ORAC. With all this talk of Iran’s remaining nuclear stockpiles and capabilities, how would anyone really know and if they did why would they tell us?
Is this a case of the media putting on talking heads talking cr@p because it’s better than admitting nobody really knows what’s going on? |
So seven B2s crossed the Atlantic and then the length of the Mediterranean, threading their way through busy airways all the way and meeting tankers as required.
How did they do that? Did they file fake flight plans, pretending to be civil aircraft? Or did civil radars just turn a Nelsonian blind eye and maneuver civil traffic out of the way? |
