I had my eyes tested for RAF pilot on saturday. AFCO needed it to make sure there wasnt't any dissapointments at Cranwell. The test showed that I was very minutely long sighted in my left eye. Something ony the electrical equipment could pick up. Does anybody know where this will put me. Does it totally rule me out of Pilot or not matter.

Look at the form the optician filled in. What does it say, and how does it compare to - you might be lucky, and be good enough for the RN. (RN has lower eyesight standards, same aptitude standard though poss higher right now, see Blimy's posts)
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
Does it rule you out a Pilot? Only the Docs at OASC will be able to answer that - after they have examined you.

OASC Checklist Advice
Hi there guys and girls.
Could someone help me with this? Basically just want to see if I’m missing anything drastic off my OASC preparation checklist? Just a background on myself, I'm going for Pilot and WSOp (no not WSO). This is pretty much what I learnt for my filter interview, and I just wanted to check if there is anything missing off this list for my OASC revision?
p.s. I apologise for my spacing in the post, computer won't listen.

Yea I know TSR has loads on there, I wrote quite a bit of it, lol.
And yes I've read the OASC thread, and I think I've got a decent checklist but I'd like to see if anyone can think of anything.

Mason, your list is a bald list although you have mentioned a couple of whens, whys etc. You will need depth.
"What is the role of GBAD?"
the inevitable follow up will be "What comprises GBAD?" "What do GBAD units integrate with . . . " and so on.
If you know all that is worth knowing after two answers and you are ready for the 3rd question it is likely to be "What is ISTAR?" and off you go again.

Cheers PN.
GBAD I probably ought to have taken off the list actually, certainly in the form of Rapier, and yes I'm aware of what ISTAR is.
But yea cheers again PN, it's obviously not a full list, I just wanted to see if I was covering the basic areas.

What is GBAD incidentally??
Just one word of advice - when you're asked about current affairs, please come up with something more original than Iraq and Afghanistan! Every man and his dog will reel those 2 off and if you can come up with something different it will make you stand out from the crowd.
If you really want to show off and are feeling particularly brave, pick a topic from each continent and go round the globe linking the continents together through your topics of choice. You will confuse the hell out of the boarding officers who probably didn't manage to get past the sports page, tv section or latest rant of the Daily Mail and really show some depth and understanding.
Oh and an understanding of outdated management practices and budgeting procedures that permanently put you in the red will also be expected. They are after all the dominant theme in today's Armed Forces - expeditionary ops are a mere sideline whilst waiting for the next initiative to come in!

_Quiet Mason_, that seems to be a very good list for starters - far better than the muppets who come onto here and just ask "what do I need to know?"
My only comment would be to agree that you can expect to have your depth of knowledge probed as stated above. If you can answer 3 or 4 questions in a row on a subject area then you are getting to the level of knowledge required.
Oh, and expect to be asked all about the training systems for all your desired branches. Did you include that?
Blunty

Following Melchett's suggestion, look at the UN revision to the law of the sea with respect to ownership of the sea bed and territorial waters.

The questions that are thrown in to phase you are normally in the group discussion. Who is your hero? What is the greatest invention ever? Its the kind of thing that you can't really prepare for, just hope you have a quick enough mind on the spot.
I'd say some of the stuff on role of the Commands, RAF motto etc are good if you know them but have never heard of someone asked them. Also, you missed off IOT structure which you should know inside out.
