For heaven's sake, Ponsonby-Smythe, when I said "bring an elephant gun with you", I meant...
"Bugger this, I should have joined the RAF like cousin Dumbo ... a quick strafing run over the channel and back in the mess for peanuts and whisky by teatime!"
If you think I'm looking not a little glum
then let me say Buster
that you've got it right in one
When your circus days are done
you need to have a spot of fun
and not be lumbered with some bugger with a gun

"Deploy the water canon!"
will someone get this damn son-of-a-gun off my back?
if only I could I'd pack the bugger up in a tight little trunk
and consign him far away for a year's compulsory service
with the RSPCA
but that, I fear, is an impossible tusk for an old jumbo

1898 - Little did Second Lieutenant 'Royal' Tank-Corps realise where his experimentation would lead.....the equipment has changed beyond all recognition, although the lingering smell is still a major feature of their manoeuvres.
