Interview coming up

Sorry to branch off the topic guys, but I'm looking for a little help. I have an interview with QR at the end of the month and was wondering if anyone that's been screened RECENTLY could give a run down on what to expect.

Would appreciate examples of the type of questions asked in the technical quiz as well as the style/format of the interview and guidance on which areas to research for it.

Thanks!

RV

Buns.. if it can console you,you are not the only one suffering from the roster unfairness..right on the spot regarding days off request ending up in STBY duty....another slap in the hard working crew's face..especially when it happens before leave.
-roster:"Sorry sir..not allowed to bid for days off before leave.."
-Pilot:"really...how comes some people end up with 3.. 4 days off before leave without asking anything..."
-roster:"eeuuhh..."
:ugh:
Whaaat to do..

Anyone know the deal with the medical for Qatar

I have a JAA Class 1 but I am a larger chap, 6' 1" and 122KG which puts my BMI at 34ish which according to the web is Obese, personaly just feel a little fat :O

AirSpeedLow 10th Mar 2011 19:10

I think for the Aviation Authority out there you need to have a BMI less than 30 and to live there (for your resident status) you need a BMI less than 35

It's not set by the airline, it's for the guys who issue your medical!
Could be wrong though, just what I was told when I was out that way!

BGG 10th Mar 2011 20:15

Have Qatar suddenly picked up pace with interviews? Anybody know how many they're doing a month and what the average pass rate is?

74world 11th Mar 2011 15:48

QR

BGG in my last class we were 12 (9 DEC & 3 FO), only 5 passed !

topofdescent 11th Mar 2011 19:03

Group of 5 (3 Capt, 2 FO) only 1 passed.... but still waiting, +3 months for the contract! :{

non0 12th Mar 2011 10:53

Soar High:ok:

BGG 16th Mar 2011 01:03

Thanks for that 74world and TOD. :ok:
A lot more capt's there than FO's...

Beechslave 17th Mar 2011 20:45

I know they hire FAA ATP licensed pilots but is the FAA commercial the same as the Frozen ATPL that's in the qatar FO hiring requirements? Thanks for any help.

Captain N 20th Mar 2011 17:06

any FO's on The A320 willing to share a typical roster?
also info on Type rating, where its done, Quality of training/line trainers etc

Many thanks

TROPICAL-DEPRESSION 21st Mar 2011 18:14

Cap N.

1st - On rosters A320, nothing you can do about it, alot has been written about it.
2nd - On trainers and training a lot has also been written about it, on the other hand if you are prepared for your session, you wont have any problems. Don't show attitude towards the instructor, if anything out of line happens, calm down and take it easy. If he is wrong give him a refference and show him you know.

3rd - If you don't know where to find the right information, you'll have a hard time here. You don't need to memorize everything, but go through the books, all of them and familiarize yourself with them.

flyforfood1 22nd Mar 2011 09:41

The most worrying about the above is, they can quote references all day long, but come to fly the aeroplane and it leaves a lot to be desired. Flying a constant descent approach in this airline gets their sphincters going! I kid you not. :ugh:

fokkerplod 22nd Mar 2011 15:09

autothrottle / autopilot off approaches

I agree too at least B777 FM is trying to correct that one re the autothrust and autopilot off on approach to keep our boeing skills alive for when we escape to pastures new :-)

and again the number of captains who want you level at najma at 2000' when i'm quite happy to intercept the glide at 6.1 with a CDA approach, you can hear there brains rattling !!!

oh and qatar sucks if you've got under four year olds as you get naff all help with pre-school / nursery / kindergarten which can cost at least the same if not more than regular school, oh and woe betide you if you want to take your toddlers home for a week during term time, you forfeit your place and fee with no refund so they can rob some other poor unsuspecting family :-( rant over.

Hello, I've been invited to the selection process and I was wondering if it would be possible to come with my "future wife" (so girl friend at present) in Doha?
I checked on internet and apparently you may be asked a marriage certificate at the hotel!
So, unlike Dubai, is it definitely a "NO GO" in Doha? :=

loc22550 29th Mar 2011 11:17

FFR...Lets be honest:
For some families Qatar is brilliant but for some others it isn´t..
EACH case is different!
How many pilots travel home as soon as they have 2..3..4 days off to see their family at home, some of them even resign because of family issue.
Some of them have tried to bring them here..not for long...
It is very hazardous to generalize an issue like that.

non0 29th Mar 2011 19:36

"future wife"
"future ex-wife" not recommended at the interview, no time for site seen, the time line is pretty tight!

thunderbird-1 29th Mar 2011 20:20

"future ex-wife" hahaha, magari per te o magari preferisci i maschi :E

Well maybe not during the interview but I would like to stay few more days with her to enjoy the sun as where we leave there is none :(

Any constructive comment would be appreciated, thanks.

loc22550 30th Mar 2011 08:01

Just hurry up...if you still want to enjoy the sun..because after a couple of weeks from now you will have to enjoy the Air conditioning!:}

169west 30th Mar 2011 19:12

Loc is right, better plan your trip in DOH without waiting the HR to organize your romantic holiday. You'll end up being right in the red-zone and this year the forecasted temperature seems to be a little bit higher compare to the historic shown!

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1301511275

My 2 cents...no wife at the interview let alone girlfriend, but surely you'll not be the first and not even the last!

non0 30th Mar 2011 19:27

Any constructive comment would be appreciated, thanks.
Pprune is a very useful tool. Try to learn from every post.

thunderbird-1 30th Mar 2011 21:46

Thank you guys, really nice, thank you. A simple answer yes or no would have been enough.
Fortunately google is my friend, it is not permitted to stay in a hotel room with a girl unless you are married, marriage certificate will be required at check-in.

So, I will go alone to Doha!

She will come with me to Dubai for my Emirates interview the month after :ok:

Enjoy the warm weather as this seems to be the big issue for you :E

ADY 1st Apr 2011 13:35

First day of the open day in Athens today and the lady from the company said that is better to go for screening with your wife for just checking the life in Doha. They said also that this year some FO will take the upgrading with just three years in the right seat!!!! :ugh:

thunderbird-1 1st Apr 2011 15:00

Thanks for the good info ADY.

Fubaliera 1st Apr 2011 15:59

That upgrading only applies to A300 F/O did she tell you guys all the f/o s who are bypassed for stupid reasons, or the silly new rule that 2 consecutive Qcaa standard grade in a manuenuevr and you be bypassed on either seat swap or fleet transfer. New idea by CPF and FM320 to stop the exodus to other fleets or other airlines. Also any report by a cabin crew for any stupid reason that goes directley to accoutable manager of the airline and your bypassed as well.
As for 320 Captains, if you delay a flight for the wrong reason, your fired

ADY 3rd Apr 2011 14:12

Does anyone knows if the salary is paid in US$ or in QR Do they have a fixed rate currency?

Daniel777 3rd Apr 2011 22:25

Hi!

I know there is a seperate thread for QR Second officers but is has gone silent for a while.
Does anyone know how the recruitment of SO's are going?

I know the airline interviewed many low hour pilots a few years ago, but how is the situation at the moment?

Thank you,

Dan

CadetPilot 4th Apr 2011 01:27

I myself would like to know this.
I know they have interviewed a bunch recently (one of them being my friend), hasn't got a call back since then. =/

B767PL 4th Apr 2011 02:27

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone here knows the deal for the Qatar SO fast track?

I understand that as the "SO" you are actually acting as the FO, except flying with a training captain until you complete the required cycles, to become a normal FO, and come under the normal FO T&Cs? What are the T&Cs like until that time?

What equipment are they likely to assign you? Also, what is the experience of guys who have entered Qatar as "SOs".

Thanks for any information guys, appreciate all honest info.

aviationboy 4th Apr 2011 06:40

That is how I understand it as well B767PL.... I am also going to apply for the fast track program.

Not sure how much exp they really want... I meet the requirements but who knows eh? Can't hurt to try I guess... Only 40 sectors line training too so that is pretty quick? FO within 6-12 months, sounds alright.

I keep thinking "SO" = cruise FO, really need to get out of that habit haha. What does Qatar to for Cruise FO's anyway??? cadets??? 200hr pilots??

Widebody fleet maybe? Hope so

Aymane 4th Apr 2011 06:59

Qatar Airways (In Deep Kaka for pilot)

I have been hearing that qatar airways are in deep trouble when it comes to pilots due to the fact no one wants to live over there

aviationboy 4th Apr 2011 07:05

Europe is picking up again... everyone is heading back?? Good time to apply if you are up for it... I wouldn't mind living in Doha :E

travelin12 4th Apr 2011 08:40

QR DEC's

Does anyone know whether QR is hiring DEC's for B777 or Airbus widebodies?

aviationboy 4th Apr 2011 09:53

anyone able to provide some feedback on approx experience qatar is after for fast track SO's??

CadetPilot 4th Apr 2011 11:29

Doha really isn't all that bad as they say.
If you're comparing it to the life (night life etc) to the US for example, of course it isn't the same, but neither is any other GCC country.
Agreed Doha is a little behind even compared to other GCC countries, but if I could get a job at the world's 5 star airline, i'd take it anyday!
Not as bad as they say..

loc22550 4th Apr 2011 11:53

"but if i could get a job at the world's 5 stars airline,id would take it anyday!":E
Cadetpilot:
for your info:
The so called "5 stars" is related to business & first classs PASSENGER's treatment only..nothing to do with CREW treatment/condition.
