QR interview
 
vivesaan you are SPOT ON Man !!!!!! :ok:

I just did my interview and that's exactly what I got......now waiting for the results (2-3 weeks).

By the way the guys that conducted the interviews were VERY NICE GUYS, I was impressed. :ok:

Anyone interested in QR, I would strongly recommend that you stop reading the **** on Prune and check it out for yourself. :cool:

Of course QR is not perfect, but do you know a company that is ????? let me know :p

Good luck but from someone who was where u are now 2 1/2 years ago, dont spit up at the sky, it tends to fall back in the face...And I say that as a caution...

Even though this forum can get a little melodramatic, all the post on this one page in particular are very objective of the current situation...Not saying to anyone don't come, just REALLY understand here you have no rights, its money and that's it...Fleet xfer, upgrading, seniority, etc are all about "right place and right time" mentality, no fairness what so ever in any aspect and for sure no explanation...Here one day gone the next...come with no expectations...see what surprise the cereal box has inside for u and that's it.

As for the 2-3 weeks, I'm going to bet it won't work out that way!

A colleague of mine has been waiting since early December for an answer, still nothing! I attended an assessment after him and got an offer after 2 months of waiting!

It amazes me that an airline that needs so many pilots to cope with the forecast expansion, to compete with EK, is so inefficient and getting bums on seats!

Yes...I've also heard the same, that even if you ask the team at interview how long they'll take to reply, it can be much much longer than what they state. Whatever QR's game plan consists of in working this way, it can and has backfired when people take other offers elsewhere. It's strange they're still at it considering all the costs they incur to interview so many and then lose some of the selected few because of their own negligence.

It wasnt like this .Last year recruiting was getting the job offers out in a week, but the former recruitment manager left and came back but as chief pilot fleets. The new recruitment manager is a local, so thats why its probably so slow now

There are a lot of very experienced first officer on all fleet, better qualified and experienced than a lot of "coming from nowhere" DEC's.
According recent memo 2 F/O's were fired because of drinking problem and CC abuse.

Do you call them "experienced".

The Qatar First Officers were flying while intoxicated? Or did they consume more than 1 drink per hour during their off days?

The term "drinking problem" may mean very different things based on the culture. What a Qatar local may deem alcohol abuse may be simply titled "breakfast" to an 80 year old Czech grandmother.

I am interested to know if the pilots were indeed flying intoxicated, thus a firing is naturally warranted along with jail time. However, if they were fit for duty while operating aircraft then I do not see the issue.

AirSpeedLow don't shoot the messenger......all I can tell you is what I was told before the Sim :sad: That is: 2-3 weeks for an answer.If it takes 2 months EVEN BETTER ! :ok:.......I have few things going on right now.....
Regarding what I said about this "QR post", MOST of it is crap.....wake up its a RUMOR BOARD, nothing else :D

I'm not sure how you thought my post was 'shooting you' about the time they told you, I was merely telling you of my experience, which isn't rumor, it is FACT!

What else is fact, are a lot of the experiences that QR guys have posted on here, so after one day and (in my experience with them) a lot of waiting around, you can hardly say the guys out there are spouting '****'!

Personally I don't have the arrogance to dismiss the experience of others who are in a position better to judge than myself, or indeed to tell somebody to 'wake up' when all they were doing was passing on some information that may in fact help me in some way!

All the best with all of your ventures, and QR of course!

Sorry AirSpeedLow I may have misunderstood your post. I presume you are trying to share some info with others. Again I can only mention what I was told.
The reason they are taking at times so long to reply, could be that they are waiting to take deliveries of more A/Cs or the training dept is full, who knows.. :sad:

I am glad to hear that you "don't have the arrogance to dismiss the experience of others", but I hope that you don't blindly believe what's written on Prune.

Funny that some of my mates in QR (there 5-9 years) are not complaining about the company, but at times about DOH.
The only thing correct on this post is regarding the guys on the 320 fleet getting F*****. But QR accepts resignations at any time, so there is an option if life is so miserable ! :rolleyes:

Look, we all know the "deal" before getting in. For those that didn't know, I guess they haven't done their homework before joining.

Ok, first of all, does everyone that has a job have 'fun' ? I'm sure all the expat pilots at KAL, CAL and the like are skipping whistling and dancing to work.. This is a JOB mate nothing more nothing less. Play with the train set the way they want it played with and go home. In the end, all the aircraft are new, destination base is vast and growing, the money is easily 100 fold more than i made at the beginning of my career, not to mention that I love to fly and i get plenty of that as well, to be honest i do enjoy my profession, there is no one who can take that away from me.
Yes the airline has it's unique ways as does EK and EY. wake up man, this is the Middle East and thats what you get. I dont agree with some of it and neither do the rest, but stomping your feet and throwing your toys out of the crib all night long will not solve your own personal problems either mate.

Jump into your aircraft, complete your commercial task like a professional and collect your money for it. When something better comes along, then jump at it. That IS the way it is. The values and working conditions that you will find in other parts of the globe differ from this part, so best you get used to that idea and get on with it like the rest.

As you mention 40% of QR Pilot are unprofessional! How did you rated these pilot? How did you come out this figure? How do you define professional pilot? I guess those professional pilot who fly better than you are the amount of 60% professional. your big ego one day will destroy you. If you are so good, why don't you work for your home country flag carrer ( British Airwasy ). And since you are no longer working in QR, why are you still so concern about this company? you should pay more attention European major airlines's news instead of ME.:=

I have a news for you guys, if you don't like middle east, try Africa. Nigeria is hiring big time. I know at least ten European pilots leaving Nigeria to join Middle Eastern carrier and rest of them desperately waiting for a response on their application. As we are opening up the Nigerian market for you guys, may be you guys could leave to make some positions for people like us who would like to come to Middle East or Asia. Anyone interested PM me.

As you know most of Europe's Aviation market is on it's knees right now, I suggest you guys stop complaining and try to work together to take the company to the next level to compete with EK and EY. It is still one of the very few company who offers you with a juicy offer compare to the rest of the world.

Qatar Airways has come from nowhere to major player in a very few years. It has changed from a haven for guys who cannot get a job elsewhere to a a fast growing international airline. Unfortunately the quality of the management have not kept pace with this growth.
Pilots from the North African countries who have (quite rightly) not been welcomed by most airlines have established a culture that would not be accepted in any modern airline. Instructors have no instructional skill, instead they employ a fanatical knowledge of regulations to demonstrate their professionalism. They can't fly, they can't teach and they can't even operate an aircraft without alienating the rest of the crew and jeopardising the safety of those on board. Rapid and far reaching change is required in this area.

This airline has an opportunity to be a major player in the future of aviation but in order to do that there is a need to come up with some original thinking. Blindly following Emirates will only mean coming second to Emirates and probably Etihad.

There is no reason why Qatar Airways should not be the job of choice for crew wishing to work hard in the long haul market. The changes that are needed are obvious to even the most intalectualy challenged of airline executives. Instead of looking for ways to penalise the occasional sad offender who breaks the rules start looking for ways to reward the guys who just do their job.You will soon find that the bad guys will be gone courtesy of the good guys who want the airline to grow and to be proud to work for Qatar Airways.

This could be the best airline in the Middle East, somebody please just allow it to happen!

Why looking with original thinking..?:confused:

Lets start first with the basic before even thinking further: (applicable for most of the so called "major" carrier or national carrier ...as Q.R. pretend to be a major carrier...)like:

-A fair and balanced roster (especially on 320): original? i don't think so!
-A Pension plan (like most of the major carriers!): again original?i don't think so!
-Incentive (bonus,profit share..):anything original:again..no!
-Seniority reward/respect: make sense .. but again not in QR....

Since you've been in the Middle East for quite some time I think, remember when around 10 years ago some Aussies tried to start a Union in EK ?????
Ask around what happened to those guys.

I am not an expert, but I would bet that UNIONS (just like in the UAE) are BAN by law. :eek:

QR is soooooo bad ! but you are still working for them :D

For info I am not working or living in a "third" world country but I have my reasons for wanting to come to QR.

747world, I do get your points and they are all valuable contributions to this discussion in an attempt to shed a different light on things.

There seems to be one thing you are forgetting systematically, and that is the fact that you are in a privileged position as a pilot who was hired straight on to the 330 or 777. You have been given a gift in form of a postion on those fleets which for almost 1/3 or 500 pilots in this company would be considered a career move!

This policy, combined with the current right to left seat command upgrade policy on those fleets, is a slap in the face for all A300 (yes, we still have those) and A320 pilots. This pilot group has been systematically neglected by the management. The rosters are absolute hell, the fatigue levels are through the roof, the management as well as many fellow pilots flying heavier/modern equipment turn their backs to them and they earn less money!

So please do not expect these pilots to join your QR love parade. To put it very simple, A300 and A320 fly for a different airline.

The funny thing is that it is a fact that these airplanes form the financial backbone of the QR ops. The A300 is a pure money maker and the A320, in its role as feeder airplane to the long range network as well as its deployment possibilities on short as well as medium haul routes, is an essential part in the network. Long range as well as ULR flights, in many cases, are flown for reasons of prestige and strategy (spreading the qatari flag). Economically they do not make much sense in general and the company is happy if it can see a break even on thse routes.

Yet our management elects to ignore these fleets and its pilots?? Strange..

All this is about to be changed as the future plan is to try to hire all direct entry pilots and second officers on A320/A300 only. Command upgrades will be done predominantly on these fleets as well. So, after many years, the problems mentioned above have been reckognised! This will allow pilots to pursue a more normal career progress and some of the injustices done in the past will be taken care off.

Question remains: is it not too late?

But 747 man and consorts, please stay aware that people like yourself remain, due to company policy so nothing personal, remain a thorn in the eye of many of your colleagues here. Rubbin it in will not help this.

Maybe you guys should start a union and see how far you can go.....not far I guess.
Is it worth to put up with that stuff ? if the answer is NO then it might be wise to go somewhere else, there are plenty of options, unless you like to be upset everyday thinking about it. :sad:

Some of you guys are quite active members on this forum so it is a very sensitive issue BUT either you like it or not people like me will look at QR as a great opportunity to take.
Sure they could change their mind and send me to loc22550's fleet, but I am willing to take that risk :E

in my case I'll be happy to join, on each his own, they are some guys for who Qataria is ok to work for, and for others not, in that case you have to take your responsibilities, coming here and complaining could be a good things if Qataria was a so real bad company but it's not, it's far to be perfect, but at least you have a job, I understand that flying on the A320 it's not easy, but my advice be patient and try to find the right company for you and please stop fighting for nothing, as I said good for you if you are happy (I mean the overall) with Qataria for those who are not I hope for you a better company.

So you have not joined yet?


In that case prepare to join the 320 as there are very few places left on 330 and 777.

QTR is not a bad place at all and if you can get used to the "rural" middle east lifestyle Doha has to offer you might find the place rather likeable.

The routes we fly are nice ( bit less on 320 but still it does have some nice routes), the money is always in the bank and if you do your job as per company rules and regs nobody will ever bother you!

The injustices between different fleets and the incompetence of the flight ops management (generalised, some good individuals present) as well as the Arabic/indian approach towards HR are things you will have to learn to live with!

Qatari515 says it very nice. However it is very frustrating, when you come here prepared to give yourself 100% to the company, that they keep doing everything they can to make your life difficult.

One example is, and its happens all the time, you ask for 3 days off before your leave. And they give 2 days off a stanby and them your leave.

And now it seems like we can not have two blind days in row anymore. Now we are given stanbys for a couple of hours between flights.

74world you are far from the first to have this attitude before you join. But lets see after you have been here one year.

"Qatar Airways is poised to dramatically increase its services to German cities as it continues to expand across Europe.
The carrier will increase the number of flights between Doha and Munich from daily to 11 flights a week on March 9.
And towards the end of the month, its Frankfurt route will be upgraded from 10 to 13 flights a week.
On Sunday, Qatar Airways also began flights to Stuttgart as the total number of flights between Qatar and Germany is set to rise from 24 to 34 flights a week."
