Flyingstig 10th Mar 2012 07:58

Word is that the 787 will be crewed from the existing A320 pilots.
One might imagine a riot, or mass walk out, if they don't get a chance to 'get out of the workhouse'!!

ITO 10th Mar 2012 08:38

Won't mind replacing one of them on the 320 :-) been 8 weeks now since interview with no news...

flyforfood1 10th Mar 2012 08:52

Word on the street (from management) is there aren't enough crews wanting to go on the 787....

salamalikum2 10th Mar 2012 08:52

Flyingstig..just Wondering how they gone move 320 crew to the 787,knowing that the 320 fleet is suffering from a severe crew's shortness.......

ITO 10th Mar 2012 09:16

Well by maybe trying to make a smooth transition from the A320 to the 787 by replacing the A320 gaps with the newly recruited pilots. I don`t think a pilot that has been on the A320 for couple of years will refuse a 787 slot except if the person is looking for command upgrade rather than a new rating ?

However, for sure, this needs careful planning...etc on the recruitment training side. The 787 seats been unveiled few days ago at the ITB Berlin, the aircraft starting service this summer. And still no news :ugh::ugh::ugh:

ziubelu 10th Mar 2012 09:48

...signed the contract one month ago...still no joining date...!!!!what the hell...hope it will not get one year .....or at least get to know any EAT....or how will we eat!

ziubelu 10th Mar 2012 09:51

...anyway segnoritas..if they do not want to go to the 787 I'll take it thanks.
:E

Jetaim 10th Mar 2012 10:26

It might have something to do with a neighbouring, hostile country that is about to be bombed habibi..by F16 with a six point star on the fuselage.. You might end up waiting for a little longer than planned... The ME armageddon is about to start..

geggan 10th Mar 2012 10:50

Guys, could anybody tell me how the single life is in QR and doha? Heard a lot bad stuff..

ziubelu 10th Mar 2012 13:00

...Humm..that's something to definetely to deal with...but I don't think Qatar will have anything to do with...it's a matter between two countries..and big sam will stay out of it..and so will europe...

ziubelu 10th Mar 2012 13:03

...life in Doha is fine....there is a lot of bull**** thrown in the air, anyway it's a very personal matter..if you are used to promenade at Piccadilly sipping a tea with a super cool blonde...well it's not the place to be...if you have a family, want to provide a good education to your kids and do normal familiar life it's fine...if you are a millionar guy...well stay where you are..if you want to be jobless soon ..stay in Europe...so it's a question of putting situations into a balance and check where it leans...
:ok:

Iver 10th Mar 2012 14:02

The A320 pilots at QR could certainly do a lot worse than transitioning to this:

That said, I can understand their trepidation about getting a 787 type rating which might not be so marketable (job security) with so few types flying these days. The 787 type might be quite valuable in 5 years or so when there are more flying... Look forward to seeing the 787 in GOAT colours.

Jetaim 10th Mar 2012 21:10

ziiubelu... expect missile to be fired in the direction of Doha and Dubai. Ever wondered why Dubai has been recently the sixth spender in military procurements or why they had just antimissile systems put in place by the US. Why do you think oil is up again to 110 USD a barrel.. almost as pre July 2007? Why you think Qatar is not calling you ? Get real..it will happen soon..wanna bet ? Iver 787 is the same type as 777..juts two sim session differences and is definetely the type to have... if you want to live in desert which appears to be the only way you will be able to fly either. This unless we start exporting worker rights along with aircrafts and rebalance the equation...

ziubelu 11th Mar 2012 08:19

hi jetaim...the scenery you are talking about could happen but I believe it's highly improbable...once , when I was at war school a guy (that was far from crazy) told us.."don't think that because they walk barefoot means they are stupid".
The economic interests in the EU is so prominent that they will never ever permit to happen it again.
According to intelligence Q has no means to counteract military...other like D have the means..but not the knowhow (and they wanted some really strategic assets that were not given to them)....the six stars a/c you are talking about are the meanest MF pilots in the world (I flew with and against them on training..and we never won a single fight)...so the tieless man has no chance of even thinking about it.
Regarding the 787....well I know it's the same type than the 777 ...but airliners will never hire you on the tripple as they know cockpits are totally different, but it is an investment in the future, it seems that experienced F/O's on the 320 are reluctant to move to the 78's because they are close to command asessment and moving would mean at least another year sitting the wrong side..money is money!...and glory is gone a long time ago..cheers.

Hi. Anyone heard any news from the February selections ?

Its been a month since i finished the exams in Doha and still haven't heard anything. I'm so bored being away from aviation :/

Back in the line.....Mister!
Wait now....ummm..ehhh....7 weeks or so!
As do others.
:ugh::}

Flyingstig 11th Mar 2012 11:54

A guy I know has just got back from SO selection, he did the 787 sim.
He has heard that if you are a "no thanks" you hear in two weeks.
Does anyone have any substantive info re this.
He's a bright lad so I'm confident he will be ok, but it might ease the agony of waiting if he passes the two week deadline!?
Good luck to the rest of you waiting, it must be awful!
Cheers
Stig

-Salam aleikoum my friend , Kaifa Halook ? ;) I guess thats just rumors ... rumors ..

RED BARON 320 11th Mar 2012 16:13

Hello my fellow Aviators friends, I did the interview at Doha on January 15th, and still waiting for the good news. I´m TR in the A320 family, currently flying the A319 for an airline in Latin America, I wish good luck to everybody, cheers

ITO 11th Mar 2012 17:12

Let`s hope that the rumor is true. As the recruiter said during the Interview introduction : ``No news, probably good news``. However, we have people here on board that got bad news after 7 weeks of waiting, and I think others more. Let`s hope that we will not fall in this figure.

225 pages of this thread.....Done!

225 pages of this thread.....done! Now where do I apply!

To all those who have posted: Thanks for all your advice, banter and opinions. I will be applying in 3 months as a UK, ex-mil, FJ pilot with 3000hrs and ATPL. I am currently employed by another ME country flying FJs and QA are still interested and want me to apply, so my advice to all is:
1. Don't doubt your own abilty/credibility against all the others applying. If you have the quals they are asking for and they invite you to interview then they like the look of you. Go for it.
2. Living in the ME is not as bad as everyone thinks. Open your eyes, enter with a positive attitude and you will have a great time. They are the friendliest people I have met and if I wasn't getting grey around the edges I would stay in the FJ world forever. The snag is, there is another challenge out there and I want some of it!

I'll clearly be submitting more "I've been waiting for ** months for a reply" posts over the next year but well done to those who have gone before!

potatowings 11th Mar 2012 19:17

Well said Swept.

Why worry if they will or won't give you an interview, go for it and see. If they offer you an interview you have a shot.

As for living in the ME. I too have lived there before and spent some time in Doha. You are so right. Very friendly and hospitable people, but an open mind is essential. But the same goes for Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing or any number of 'non-western' cities that have good opportunities for expat pilots.

Hey StephanK,
You and I are pretty much on the same time frame. Interviewed mid-Feb (FTSO). Have not heard anything yet (which hopefully means good news). Based on current wait times others are experiencing (like upwhereIbelong & others), I am not holding my breath. I am crossing my fingers though, hoping to receive the good news sooner, than later. Let me know if you hear anything and I will let you know as well if I do ok?;)

StephanK 12th Mar 2012 08:58

Sure man no problems.
Were you on Feb 12th selection morning ?

lotsofplanes 12th Mar 2012 12:22

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news but i know of 4 guys who got yes's on sunday exactly 4 weeks after their assessment. mixed positions all commercial.
i guess it depends on who is looking after your file post assessment.

RED BARON 320 12th Mar 2012 13:55

I´m sure you right, it also depends in your availability, I did my interview 8 weeks ago, still waiting flying my 319 ultil I get the good news...

upwhereIbelong 12th Mar 2012 14:25

...

its just not right ....!

RED BARON 320 12th Mar 2012 14:39

it isn´t, but I´m gonna tell you what my friends that fly for QR told me, PATIENCE!, soon we´ll be in course for the 320 or any other ac, we just have to wait a little more...

ryanb5005 12th Mar 2012 15:00

I have a few questions regarding Qatar Airways.

I've read a lot about the actual interview but what about the rest of the process? Did they fly you business class? Was immigration an issue and did they have someone waiting to bring you to the hotel?

What are overnights like at Qatar? Both widebody and a320. Do you stay in decent locations and in nice hotels? Whats per diem like?

Thanks

Tinga 12th Mar 2012 16:44

No StephanK, I was not on Feb 12th. Mine was a couple of days later. Will definitely announce if I hear something. Please do the same. Thanks.

homesick rae 12th Mar 2012 17:34

Ryan B,

When I was at QR we stayed in the Hilton by the English Garden in MUC - very pleasant and easy to get a tram into the city. Marriot in Slough for LHR. One of the Amaris in BKK. Used to be quite decent layovers but not sure now. In general hotels will be pretty good but someone will always complain that's for sure!

Cheers

HR
