Has anyone heard about start dates or when we will hear? I know about the FTE guys starting in March but wondering if anyone else has heard anything further.

On a slightly different note, are there any successful applicants who lives in London fancy meeting for a couple of drinks at some point? Open invitation to all flight schools and completely informal.

For the guys asking about non-UK applicants, I'm sure there are as there were many I met through-out the selection process but I've not met anyone who has been accepted, but then again, I've not met anyone yet...hence the drinks offer.

Great idea to meet up informally for some drinks. I live in London and would certainły be up for it.

Unfortunately I haven't heard anything yet either...

London Drinks

I've had a few responses to the suggestion of drinks, so if anyone else is interested then send me a messgae.

It will probably be a Saturday at the end of Feb or beginning of March judging by the replies so plenty of time to get written permission from the Mrs/Mr/Mum.

What they said

Ditto - in London and up for it. Maybe we can find a way to organise it without 'polluting' this thread with discussion of logistics, or publishing email addresses (and identities ). Suggestions welcome in that regard!

I suggest something similar for anyone who happens to be in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Perhaps the place to talk about this stuff would be a 'group' on a well known and popular social networking site?

Such a place now exists. PM me for details.

WRT start dates, I had a conversation with a bod at my chosen FTO yesterday. I didn't expect him to know about a start date for me, specifically; but I did ask him when they were expecting their first 'BA cadets'. He couldn't tell me. He did, however, mention that this was being decided as we spoke.

NON UK APPLICANTS

I have seen the non-UK applicants at the Cranebank selection day. However I believe political pressure on BA eliminated non-UK applicants in the end.

”The rises in APD have left us with no alternative but to cut back on our planned recruitment. [...] Many of these opportunities would have been for young people. At a time of high unemployment for new graduates and school-leavers, it is deeply regrettable that these additional tax increases have propelled us into this decision.” Keith Williams CEO BA

If the CEO of BA is so much concerned with unemployment of new graduates and school leavers. He even uses this as an argument to pressure the government into eliminating the APD.
It would make no sense for BA to select foreign applicants for the already small number of BA jobs that Mr Williams is actually able to offer.

In case a foreign applicant was equally able as a UK applicant, I believe the UK applicant is eventually chosen.

If there are non-UK applicants that passed plz let yourselfs be heard to eliminate this rumour. Because this would be the only valid argument in which this rumour can be eliminated (knowing there were several foreign applicants during the selection days there must be some that passed).

Except IF (and a very big if) BA took this decision then it would be illegal under European law to descriminate against other EU residents.

UK only class members

We will see when our classes start and we have the first time opportunity to meet the other class members.

If there are only UK class members.... the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission has to be notified.

Peter

What? On the basis of a "snapshot" of members on one course

Save your energy, as I'm sure you are aware you're not heading for an attendance course - you'll have enough on your plate as it is without wasting time chasing all your fellow course members and demanding to see their passports.....

As others have said BA has a very high percentage of foreign pilots and has made scrupulous efforts over the years to comply with various EU Laws and Directives to ensure it's an equal opportunity ( gender/race/sexual orientation/nationality etc etc) recruiter and employer. FWIW in the last year I've recently flown with French, Swedish, Dutch, and Danish colleagues as well as the odd Brit ......

NON UK APPLICANTS

Relax! Thank you for assuring me. There is nothing to worry about then as I am sure there will be French, Swedish, Dutch, and Danish fellow students sitting next to me at OAA. For that I do not need a time consuming passport check at all, a "snapshot" takes just a sec The OAA course is intense enough.
I was worried a bit because I was so enthusiastic about meeting foreign fellow students. Therefore I asked them to let themselves be heard on the forum. When there was no reply I just asked an ethical question. Maybe because BA selected me partly on the basis of my ethical justness.

PS: The fact that BA employs foreign pilots does not exclude BA from selecting non-UK applicants in the FPP. The BA-OAA programme itself "the snapshot" should comply with equal opportunity regulations. I'm sure there are several EU non-UK class members. I just like to have a bit of communication from their side on the forum.

Petervd,

Are you serious? This isn't some lefty box ticking exercise that YOU might have been used to in the past whereby "foreign" or "coloured" or "people from the "white community" or people from the "black community" can claim compensation if they're not selected or advanced at the same rate as "others".

Enjoy the course and and keep your head down in this area - you'll make a name for yourself if you do, and not a good one.

NON UK APPLICANTS

No problem. Sorry for being enthusiastic about meeting foreigners on a BA course.

Londenmet thank you for your advice. I will keep my head down in the area of non-UK applicants - otherwise I will make a name for myself and not a good one.

I've been looking on this thread for quite some time and have heard a lot of mention about equal opportunities...but nothing from a gender perspective! I didn't get through but I'm hoping somewhere out there are a few fellow girlies!!

Unfortunately for us ladies the ratios really don't lie in our favour but then again, I guess less ladies go for it!

loan

Folks,

Has anyone found out about the funding situation? Is anyone using BA as a guarantor on the loan? Congrats on the lucky lads/ladies that made it on the course. Kudos.

cheers

Petervd,

For pity's sake, relax.

BA select on merit and merit alone. Not gender, race, nationality etc... purely on merit. Any assertation otherwise is a slur on Lindsay and his recruitment team.

Applicants are listed in a priority list from top to bottom. As the fiscal restrictions tighten then the bottom of the list is culled. If you are above the 'red line' so to speak you're in, regardless of race, creed or colour.

Now selecting applicants for a 'racially/ethnically balanced course' to contain at least one applicant from all countries would be biased as, with it being British Airways' I would sensibly conclude that a larger group from the UK applied than those from overseas.
