Hadn't thought about that. Budget alterations now ongoing. This would all be a lot easier if we knew course dates.

I asked in the Q&A session when we would officially be employed by BA and the answer was not until after the TR.

Does anyone have an idea of what use our references will be put to? Because i am young, the only people listed as references are teachers and lecturers, which is an entirely differant dynamic to previous employers. I dont expect this to make any meaningful difference but it would be nice to know for sure

The form asked for HR references, so I expect it will just be to check that we were where we were when we say we were. I've not put anyone from previous employment or education that has even seen my face before so I doubt they can give a character reference or even say if I was good at my job. If they want extra I'm sure they'll ask for it.

Thanks
I wasn't expecting much else but i wouldn't want to find myself hindered by some strange requirement of the aviation industry.

On another note, as i'll be leaving university for this (gladly of course) i was wondering if any current pilots who had earned a part time degree could tell me a little about how you fit this into your working life and how you found the experience?

Judging by your age, I'd assume that you were in your first year of university?

Just curious, as there doesn't seem to be many successful applicants who were perhaps mid-way through their university education, and I know there were a fair few in that category.

Yes i am, so not very much time has gone into getting a degree thus far.

I met several people throughout the course of the process who were in university, making them appear a fairly high proportion of the applicants. Did anyone else have a similar impression or was my group an abboration?

Does anyone have any information about what a previous poster referred to as 'extra health screening' by BA?

City Chump: My appologies for my dribble, sounds as though that pilot didnt know himself!! I'll butt out of future conversations on intricate details of the FPP now

As for next year, I'm still undecided, I'm getting old and over the hill!! Ah...what am I saying, ofcourse I will...maybe...(cards close to chest )!!

This will be to provide your previous 3-year history which will be checked as part of the process for the eventual granting of an airside pass. If your references do not check out - no airside pass - NO JOB!

References..

Expect a criminal-records check (this has to be done for air-side pass among other reasons)

Credit-history check

Employers' reference(s)

Verification of claimed educational qualifications

Insider tip: Mind what you now say/have said on social-networking sites!

PS I am in total agreement with FullTanks regarding yoofspeak/grammar/
textspeak etc. In a humble but constructive way I too tried to guide and advise candidates. Of the 5 who sent a PM seeking guidance, 4 succeeded. Of the 4 who sent negaitive PMs..implying that we were out of touch, old f*rts etc..none got through. Not a coinciden ce methinks! TP

Those here who have mentioned budgeting, would you mind briefly listing the things you are considering when working with the (eye watering) numbers?

I've come up with a monthly cost consisting of:
Rent (only applicable for some FTOs)
Food
Phone
Car = Fuel + Insurance + Tax + MOT
Other travel (probably related to inability to use the previous item due to the final item)
Other Direct Debits (previous loans)
Licence issue costs
Beer

With the repayments, obviously the need to include interest is very important with such large numbers - Don't fall into the trap of forgetting to include this!

Have I missed anything out?

Try visiting the Money Saving Expert website. They have forums dedicated to budgeting and provide really good "statement of affairs" templates which list every and any expense you could think of, in addition, there are lots of useful tools/calculators that could allow you to budget around a loan such as those you are going to borrow.

Hope this helps someone.

Hi all,

I've been following this thread from the start, but haven't posted before - at first because I didn't want to jynx myself, and more recently because I didn't have anything more to add to the conversation!

I'm lucky enough to have been offered a place on the FPP via FTE, and today received the contract from APL along with a start date of the 30th March.

It would be great to get in touch with anyone else in the same boat

Hey everyone.

I'm also lucky enough to have been accepted, and have been following this thread since the beginning.

@TheTravellingLemon I've also been selected to start training on the 30th March with FTE, good to know someone else on the same course!

Good luck to everyone else who made it through!

(P.S. Anyone else make it through who was 'Candidate 13' on the day at Cranebank? Turned out to be my lucky charm! )

All starting together at same time? How strange. End of march doesnt give much time for medicals and things either!

Post or email?
