Dear Wannabe

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your recent application for the British Airways Future Pilot Programme and for choosing Oxford Aviation Academy as your preferred Flight Training Organisation.

As you are probably aware, interest in this opportunity far exceeded all expectations, plus the standard of entry was exceptionally high. We have reviewed your application in great detail and we regret to advise you that we are unable to invite you forward to the next stage of the selection process.

Although we cannot progress your application any further for the British Airways Future Pilot Programme, Oxford Aviation Academy would however welcome the opportunity to discuss ways in which we may be able to help you pursue your ambition to become a Professional Airline Pilot.

We expect to offer alternative career opportunities with other airline partners, with the first such occasion opening in October 2011. Please note that British Airways does not transfer your contact details to our database, so registering at the above link is the only way to ensure that we can contact you regarding further opportunities at OAA.

In addition to potential mentored training opportunities, many of our students have chosen to self-sponsor their training and take advantage of the rising number of opportunities for employment open to our graduates. Click the following link to see our employment report and discover who has been hiring graduates from our European training centre the last few years: Employment Statistics | Oxford Aviation Academy - OAA.com

Please click the following link for dates and booking instructions: Airline Pilot Career Days | Oxford Aviation Academy - OAA.com

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for submitting your application and for choosing OAA as your preferred flight training organisation.

In accordance with the terms of the BA FPP please note that you are unable to apply for a similar position at BA within a 12 month period, either with OAA or any of the other Flight Training Organisation participating in the programme.

I don't meet any of the academic requirements, i do however have life experience under my belt. I took a punt and applied, i answered all the questions honestly and I'm through to the next round.

It is possible

Have a look at being a Special Constable it might fit in with being at Uni quite well.

I know that it always stands out on a CV when I am reading them. The TA these days with its overseas involvmeant might not be as suitable as it used to be.

They might also be avoiding people that are mid degree.

Is there a possibility that they will put some of those that did not get in "on hold". Perhaps those applicants who fail the interview with their FTO?

That way it kinda screws things up for some of us wishing to apply for the next tranche. Really hoping this is not the case and everyone is made to reapply again.

Thoughts?

Blackpen,

When you say you answered all of the questions truthfully, the question at the start that asks you if you meet the basic academic requirements and you answer "No" and it then states you cannot proceed any further, how did you get passed that?

Blackpen,

I'm quite certain that BA set the academic requirements, not the training school. Therefore i'm unsure that they would be able to use their discretion regarding it. Well done anyhow.

A point that concerns me is that the disproportionate amount of applicants to each FTO will cause a difference in competition levels at each FTO. This considering BA is said to want approximately 30 at each FTO.

Another OAA reject

Got the same standard rejection email from OAA as FlyingEagle21 (in fact, 6 copies of it, probably to make sure I got the message). It would've been nice to get some feedback/explanation as I also have met and gone well beyond the academic and all other requirements. And I thought I can (and did) provide some concrete examples of leadership and team work capabilities.

Might be interesting (if probably near impossible) to gather some stats of pass/fail ratios among FOs participating in the scheme. If for nothing else, to help future generations' decide to whom to apply.

Tandem,

I got the same rejection letter and yes numerous times"!

I reckon too many people may have applied to OAA and for this reason only the best of the best grades, ie being picky about GCSE's etc probably get through ones who got like 12 A*s.

Feedback would be nice considering effort of filling in application and then constantly refreshing your emailing for like 2 weeks!"

Anyone know anymore programs opening up soon?

Tandem,

I received that same generic email multiple times too; it made me think it may have been a mistake. Like both of you I have got well beyond (in fact it would be impossible to get any higher) the academic requirements of the programme. I also worked hard on the application. However i'm sure that OAA know what they're looking for, as they've been in the business long enough!

Like another poster before me, I also worry about the quality of candidate put forward by each training school, as I doubt they'll be of the same calibre. However I think the weaker ones will be filtered out during phase 3 at BAs discretion.

To fellow rejects, we can always apply again

Guys, thanks for being honest and letting us know your outcome. I am sorry you were rejected at stage 1, but there is always next year. Don't forget to work hard in 'adding' to your CV...don't just sit around and be the same for next year. Read mad_jock's previous posts for some excellent ideas for 'extras' that wont just look good, but will also give a lot to you as a person and build your life experience.

I think it is important to remember that all areas of the aplpication were probably equally scrutinised.

I certainly don't have 12 A*, nor solid A's at A-level, however, I did not apply to OAA, so i can't comment on what they're looking for. I wonder if there are any FTE or CTC rejects?

If they really got thousands and thousands of applications I find it hard to believe that they were all "heavily scrutinised".... I can't believe the FTO have the manpower to be able to do this. How long would it take a couple of people to read thousands of application forms??

Really Blackpen?

Blackpen, as one who is involved in the periphery of this scheme (but whose brother is directly involved) I have to say that your claim is incredible and unbelievable (to put it courteously!)

The website application process would not have allowed your application and in any case there are no circumstances under which applicants who fail to meet the minimum educational criteria would have been accepted for FTO assessment.

Interesting that this was your first post!

Of course they will. Why should Oxford set a higher level than CTC and FTE? If each FTO is only offering about 30 places and all have had a few hundred (or more) applications then they can easily select candidates of equal ability.

The fact that you even think this may be an indication that what you wrote on your application was not as good as you thought it was. It definitely shows problems with your reasoning!

Grass strip basher - without going into details of the application form (wouldnt want to give those who havent seen it an advantage), it is quite obvious that the other areas were scrutinised. How else do you explain that those who meet the minimum grades/age/height etc have been rejected? Not to disrespect the FTOs, but I would have thought anyone who met the above would have been invited to testing simply for the money involved! This has clearly not been the case (pat on the back for all who got through), which leaves it open for suggestion that the other areas of the application were scrutinised?

Received the same 6 mails from OAA yesterday. Got a bit disappointed, but it's life and it's tough, so will work on my application form and try applying next year. Good luck to those, who got through!

GroundLoop,

I am suggesting that the application to place ratio is higher at some FTOs than others. Logic follows that if one had twice as many applicants as the other, then competition for those limited places will be more fierce.

There is nothing wrong with my reasoning regarding this.
