I'm 19 and sent my application. I'd want to stay with BA all my career if I could. They cater for both SH and LH flights and have small aircraft from the A318 up to the B744 and soon B787/A380. If you could move up the career ladder as a pilot within one airline surely you'd like to stay with them if you could?

I'd have to agree with BerksFlyer, I don't think many of the younger applicants have any intentions of leaving BA if they gain employment as a pilot.
As an applicant of the younger variety myself, if I were to gain a career (and that expression being key; "career") I would never consider leaving; I mean where else would I go?
I am accustomed to western life in the UK, and as modern as the middle east and far east are becoming, it's not an attraction to me. Also, from what I've gathered, life in the Americas as a pilot isn't as great as in Europe.
I know a little about BA as an employer and from my interpretations they provide a very stable, secure and rewarding career.

Seniority
Recent posts have hit the nail on the head...where else would you go. Also the longer that you're in BA the closer you are to a training job, command, better pension, better lifestyle-everything that goes with seniority.
This is a career opportunity. I have no figures but I'd place a hefty bet that 1% or less leave voluntarily before (say) 60. After that...people want different things from life. If you really want to be a millionaire you shouldn't have gone flying in the first place anyway.

A BA 'source' seems to indicate that circa 1200 applications were received on the first day the scheme was opened! There is obviously going to be serious competition for the places, boys and girls, so many of you are going to have to steel yourselves for disappointment. Good luck!

At first look, 1,200 on the first day sounds like an incredible amount. But it's not actually too bad (i.e too competitive) when you consider what the quality of many of those applications will be like, especially being submitted so quickly. I've worked in graduate recruitment for a very large employer and we used to receive about five times that number on the opening day. About 80% were culled at the first stage. Most of these just because they contained glaring errors and were shockingly written!

For the Application questions section it states that each question should have no more than 300 words.
Does this mean 300 words each for parts a,b and c or does it mean 300 words in total for the question ?

Closing date already disclosed on this thread.. about 10 days to go BUT could well be sooner (much sooner!) if they receive (I believe) 3000+ applications first. Expect a max of 100 successful candidates but possibly just 80 .. of which 50% could well be ex-mil.. So there may be just 40 civvy places. PS.. you guys should be careful about announcing in Pprune that you've applied. Good Luck to you all. (All info is supplied in good faith and exactly as received from BA insider)

Hi all, have been reading on this forum for some years now, this is my first post 
I am wondering about the financials of the BA scheme. I am not from the UK, would it be advisable to contact my local pilot-desk at the (now) state bank and inquire for their loans? Or does it make more sense to arrange it through BA?
My situation is that I own a house (mortgage) for some 5 years now. It depends on the actual pay-per-month I guess, but can anyone give a clue as if a bank would be willing and interested to provide me a loan for this training, provided that I am able to rent my house in the mean-time. Has anyone experience with such a situation. I can imagine that my local bank does not want to provide the loan since I am already heavily obliged with my mortgage, but BA 'knows' they will receive return-on-investment and may therefore be more willing to act as loan guarantee (?)
I am reluctant to sell my house since prices have been dropping for some time and I would take a significant loss by selling.

Interesting figures. I'm surprised the number they're looking to call it quits at is 3000 considering 1200+ applications were received on the first day (MrBernoulli's source). I imagined they would expect another zero onto your final figure, but perhaps I didn't feel enough for the poor guys who have to read through all the applications!

Do australian citizens have the right to work in the UK? at least provided that they make it through the selection process and offered will BA sponsor a work permit? thanks in advance for any help!

I have 11 GCSE's all within the A-B range, 3 A levels at AAB so well within the minimum. Decided not to goto uni afterwards and started working towards flying training, saved £15k so far after 2 years...
Not brilliant but didn't want to start my flying training until i could do it all in one go, my plan was to goto the US next year for my PPL and the addons. This scheme though opens up a lot of possibilities, just got to hope!

You appear to have ALL the credentials required for this post IMHO! 
It's a rarity to find a young person these days with such commitment and tenacity, especially as you have chosen to stand on your own two feet without relying on family or friends to provide the security required - in part at least! I'm sure this alone will stand you in good stead.
Anyway, I applaud you blue_ashy and look forward to flying with you some day. Whether I will be alongside you on the flight deck or in row 66 of Economy Class shall remain to be seen!

I don't think any of the FTOs have replied yet - the email a couple of posts above was from BA. Surely the FTOs wont be in contact unless BA have already approved your stage 1 application?

That's a good point, and especially as the email is signed off 'British Airways Recruitment' I assumed it was from BA when I got it.
The only thing is that the email I got was very different from the one pasted above (although signed off in the same way) which makes me wonder if BA are just passing the applications straight on to the FTOs to screen on their behalf...
